I had been thinking about jumping into the stock fray for a while.  Galastock spammed me, so I figured ok, give it a shot.  I have 50x photos on there, up now for about 2 weeks or so and only 7 sales.  Since I am a newbie, is this ok?
Anyone else doing onything on this site

no images there for me.

There are so many new companies it is hard to keep up.

not sure I will upload there, unless I hear some impressive things.

7 sales in 2 weeks with 50 photos sounds ok for a 2nd ot 3rd tier agency. What is their commission? What is the upload process like. I know you don't have anything to compare it to, but like Leaf, I don't want to waste time with another one the sales are high or the process is very painless.

Thanks

yep, me too. about the same. 7 sales in 2 weeks with 48 images. so to me they're great because at dreamstime i've had 1 sale in 13 weeks.

upload's easy as ftp. i do mine from my hosting co. so 48 images travels in about 20 seconds. payment's 30% of $1, $5 or the $39 extended rights.

Have you read the Photographer Agreement?

"It is agreed that all rights, including title and copyright, in and to the uploaded Data Files is retained by the Supplier, and that no title or copyright transfers or is granted to CanStockPhoto or any third party."

Oops!  I think someone stole a text!  :)

The site is Lavian.  It's curious that some sites are originating in Eastern Europe.  Do you know any reason for that?  Laws, taxes?

Going slightly off topic does this mean you are FTPing from your computer to your website and then FTPing from your website to the microstock sites? If not does anyone do this or know how hard it is to set up. Obviously upload speeds from PC - Server are very slow but once its on a proper server file transfers would be much faster

I am curious about this for a while as I am currently on "assignment" at the moment hence the lack of posts and I am going to have so many photos to upload upon my return

i'm often on dial-up so i upload once via ftp to my host and send out to all the sites from there. my process is somewhat as follows:

1. add iptc info locally

2. upload to host

3. connect to host via telnet or ssh

4. run a single script file to submit to all sites that accept ftp

5. for the ftp challanged sites i use w3m, a text based browser running on the host, to submit to each

6. exit telnet

7. and finally, assign categories at each site

i do all this from a telnet session however it would be a fairly simple mattter to develop something in php that would provide a web based interface for the ftp side of the process.

hope this helps

I really can not get it???
Why is slower to upload with Cute FTP,Filezilla etc????
You just chunk a folder open 5-20 sessions in the same time and let them go.
Why all the trouble with telnet?

because the speed between datacentres will always be quicker than the speed between your home / small office and a datacentre.

upload *once* at the lower speed to the host, then run a script to transfer to 10 sites in rapid sequence (at the rate of about 1 image per second)

i'm often on a dial up so the time and cost savinges for me are consderable,

:)

Nothing from me. I refuse to try out any more new sites, unless there is absolute proof they are working / selling / marketing / making money. Got burned enough on GimmeStock, TotallyPhotos, CreStock, StockPhotoMedia, ScanStockPhoto...

The excerpt/reference on madelaide's post is the actual Photographer Agreement of GalaStock which the photographer agrees to when he uploads an image. Notice that the agreement posted on the GalaStock site contain section which refers to CanStockPhoto, which is another stock agency. The agreement seems to be just copied from the other site.

This made some photographers warry about the site.... including me... ??? :-\

Regards.

I have 64 up there now, with 17 waiting for what seems like forever.  Been on about 30 days now. Made 7 sales.  The minimum amount for a payout is 100 Euro.  Seems like at this rate, it will be a long time b4 that 100 Euro ever hits my account :(
