No sales at Zoonar yet. Been there since late December if I recall correctly. But I'm holding out for when the approved pictures start showing up on Photolibrary and AgeFotoStock. Especially my RM license stuff. As far as I can tell no photos from Zoonar are showing up at these two partners yet.

Just a suggestion to Michael Krabs, when our photos start showing up on Photolibrary and AgeFotoStock, it would be appreciated if you could send an email out to the contributors. Or at least give us an update when this might happen. Thanks.

I have not signed up at zoonar as I am scheptical, but I have a question.. If they are releasing images to photolibrary and age, and they are accepting microstock images, how do they separate those?

At Age we have now Online roundabout:

25.000 RF-Premium Photos
49.000 RM Photos
50.000 RF-Microstock Photos

since 10 days. We try to release 10-15k new photos every week. Photolibrary needs longer to release the first batch of 300.000 photos.

Seperation of different price-levels and licence types is a very easy process...

No, you can sent the same photos to AGE/THP, Alamy, Picturemaxx, DDP and more partners via the Zoonar partner control. Check it out!

Michael,

i just got a sale on apisnetwork for 48 euro, which is fabulous. under standard pricing, the highest amt is 45 euros, so am i getting 100% on royalty free or merchandising as extra? you also mentioned that it's mostly magazines that use apisnetwork, so would they need those extra licencings? thanx!

Sometimes we (and you) earn more, for example if the costumer wants to show the photo at the print AND the online magazine (same edition, same journal). There are many possible reason for higher earnings...

I had with them a little over 50 sales. Most of them last year through Polylooks, and 4 of the ERU20.-- sales this month. Started uploading to them in Nov. 09 and my first sale was in Jan. 2010. Yes I am glad that I started with them. Hope the will find another partner like Polylooks again soon.

they're one of the easiest places to submit to, if you have all your iptc info entered. i have only a slightly larger portfolio at zoonar and it has done much better than alamy at macro pricing.

Dear photographers,
since there are frequently asked questions about the procedures here at Zoonar, we want to provide you with this guide. We hope it will help you make more money at Zoonar.

Zoonar has two focal points. Our first focus is the German language picture market. Our second focus is the effort to set up a global distribution network. Zoonar is no typical microstock agency. Photographers can make good money at Zoonar but they also have to be more patient than with other agencies. As a rule, it takes about six months until new photos are processed (quality control, translation of keywords) and integrated into the distribution network. The time also depends on the selected distribution partner.

Its your decision which partners get your pictures. This does NOT happen automatically. Thus, if you dont accept a partner and submit pictures no pictures of you will be activated for the distribution network. You should always select the partners Picturemaxx/APIS and DDP Images, because they generate most of the revenue. To accept a partner please go to

My profile / partner management

Here you can accept the terms and conditions of the various partners. Once you have accepted one or more partners you can start submitting pictures. You can do this in

My profile / manage pictures

There are two possibilities. You can activate automatic submission of ALL your photos by checking the advanced partner settings option or you can select individual pictures and then click on edit photos to submit them manually.
Before you can submit pictures you have to give model and property release information. Even if your pictures dont require any release, you still have to set the option to not required. You can give the release information in the my profile / manage pictures section and then by selecting pictures and clicking on the edit photos button.

Photos without release information will not be activated for distribution through one of our partners. Furthermore, the automatic submission of photos only works when youve given the appropriate release information.
All photos which you submit for a partner are first checked by our editors, There are various reasons for this new selection process. Some partners require different minimum picture sizes than Zoonar, others require special keywording or accept only pictures of one price category. For example, Alamy only accepts pictures with 25 MB uncompressed file size, AGE/THP require 23 MB. Fotofinder only accepts premium photos, Picture Alliance only accepts animal photos with special keywords. All this is subject to change, thus more pictures could be accepted for our partners at some later time.

Furthermore, the photos get new and/or additional keywords. Keywords are translated from English to German and vice versa. All photos you submit for Picturemaxx get German keywords. All Alamy pictures get essential keywords, which are required by Alamy. All of this can take some time, since some of the translation processes and keywording are done manually for best results. Especially essential keywords have to be assigned manually.

Photos with a RF licence retain their licence when activated for a partner. The same goes for RM photos.

Photos which are activated for one of our partners cant be deleted early. If you want to delete one of your photos at one of the partners you have to go to my profile / manage pictures, select the picture you want to delete (or several pictures) and then click on edit photos. Now you can delete the photo. Please note that it takes six months until the photo is actually deleted. Some partners have a blocking period of six months and then we also have to be able to account your fees if your deleted photo gets sold and this only works if the picture is still in our database of course.
Some partners pay the photographers fee monthly, others quarterly. Therefore it can take some time before you get your first fees from one of our partners.

Zoonar will offer more partners over time. But even now you have the chance to distribute your photos worldwide through more than 100 partner agencies. With AGE/THP you get around 53 agencies, with Alamy around 50. Photolibrary has 13 branches worldwide. It takes a lot of time to get your photos into the partner network but it will pay off definitely.

Please check the partner management section once a month so you can activate new partners and/or sign up for our newsletter. New partners will be added and the more partners we have the higher your earnings will be.
Should you have any further questions please contact us in English at

[email protected].

You are also free to publish this text in online forums, blogs etc. It will help other photographers understand the procedures here at Zoonar.

This really helps Michael, and is much appreciated.

I do have a related question...
Why do some photos show being accepted at first, like this:

...but then end up showing being rejected for one partner agency or even all partner agencies, like this?

then...sometimes...

Was it because the first time is done automatically based on just technical reasons such as file size, but then rejected later on closer manual inspection? Was it because I set the price level as Premium but the inspectors thought it should have been set at the Standard price level?

I'm just concerned I'm doing something wrong on a few of my photos that are accepted on Zoonar, and were initially shown as accepted for a particular partner agency, but were later shown as rejected by all of the partner agencies.

Thanks Michael,

I have one more question - vectors are offered only by Zoonar and not by parnters?

Dear Scott,
the first photo was accepted by our team, but ONE partner has not accepted this photo after submitting. The rest three partners have accepted this photo.

The second photo (third screenshot) was not accepted by our team

Until today yes, but we try to find partners for vectors. This is also a technical problem because much of our partners havenb`t a vector FTP-import

I have some questions..

there are 3 price ranges, premier, standard and microstock.. i know we should choose microstock if it is available through other microstock agencies. How about premier and standard? when i should choose premier or standard?

if there is a faster way to 'request approval' from every agencies? it seems there are 6 agencies to be requested and have to repeated 6 times for selected pictures.

Premium is for macrostock photos and standard is what we call "midstock" in germany. We cannot fasten the release process for partner agencies, because that is not only in Zoonar`s hand. Some partners needs a long time to release new photos into their databases. At some partners the distribution agencies have to wait up to six months until a harddrive with 200.000 photos is online because this partners get to much harddrives from to much agencies at the same time. But we have 500.000 photos waiting in the pipeline... So that is a long time process.  But this is normal. You will have the same at at other distributors with this partners. There are other partners we can deliver with new photos much faster. Like DDP, Picturemaxx, Fotofinder and so far.

am i right to say that I can choose premier or standard for the price as long as those images aren't available through microstock agencies?

bottom of your portfolio page is partner management, you can set automatic release so you set releases etc and it will add the agencies you want (I think it adds them at the end of the day)
