Title: Great site for illustrators
Post by: lirch on April 14, 2011, 09:03
Just came across a while ago to www.drawshop.com (http://www.drawshop.com) . Great site design with good support and easy ftp upload. I strongly recommend it.
Beside selling rf images you get to sell directly, on demand to customers. The custom work forum on drawshop is and new business for artist in my opinion- thy can now not oly sell rf graphics but also exclusive customs to users there want their own designs -  the site offer a very hign payout for
custom work- 85% will be in the artist pocket wich is great... As an artist I have full control over all prices rf as custom. Im sure that it will become the future in selling
graphics with the ongrowing every day number of illustrators and oversaturated market. Give it a try, i know I love it:).

I think i remember seeing this site a while back when it looked like something else. Definitely not micro prices with eps files going for $100.  I'd be surprised to see if there are substantial amount buyers on this site with all the different types of pricing here that you can get so much cheaper elsewhere if your a smart buyer. Would love to hear success stories from this site tho.

Hi you
Let me explain - I saw your answer  ;) - it the artistīs there set the vector price, not the admin on drawhop.com - some artist have set vector to as low as $30 - its up to the artist what he think his work i worth - Succes storryes - there are alot - for one hour ago a customer paied me $340 for a custom work... generated from one of my royalty free graphics. The customer need and similar graphic - but his own exclusive graphic - This amazing "Custom Work" for Users and Artist -can you only find at DrawShop.com - its developed speial for "real" artistīs - there working as freelance - and now get an extra platform to sell there talent....

Poul Carlsen - owner www.drawshop.com (http://www.drawshop.com)

What's the reviewing process like?  I also couldn't find any information about file sizes and if there are any restrictions on that.  Definitely looks interesting.

Thanks in advance,

Anita

Hi Anita
Sory, I have to disapprove you, not becuse of your images styl they are great - Ony a reason of Iīm looking at this moment for "hand drawings artistīs"
Your style is more "vector backgrounds made in illustrator, its impoartant for me and the site the artist can offer both style...
But I have put you in my "artist folder" - one day I may ask you to join - if we need more "vector artists"

Take care

Yeah just saw the email.  Is there a link on the site where I can see some examples of things that you're looking for?  I may or may not have them don't know.

I appreciate the answer you gave me before I even asked why LOL.  Also, thanks for keeping me in mind as well.

I like the site.
I've had several conversations with Poul by telephone and I'm convinced the site will grow and be succesful over time.
One sale so far netting me $17.5 - the money was paid by the end of the month. But they're a brand new startup and I've been with them for only two months.
In my opinion, they're doing the right thing. 50% commission, no payout limit and the unique idea of a platform for custom work. And don't forget the site owner is an illustrator as well. Not just some random web developer looking to squeeze artists.
(For those who may think I'm somehow affiliated with the site as I'm from Denmark, I'm not. I noticed the site by coincidence and asked Poul to join)

Excellent. Sounds a lot like a European clipartof, higher rates and better library management than most of the micros.
Best of luck to them!

Hi Anita
This Lady "Jessica"  from Spain - http://www.drawshop.com/search.php?artist_id=320&page=1 (http://www.drawshop.com/search.php?artist_id=320&page=1)
- Just signup after she have read this - You can see she master the "hand drawing style"
DrawShop.com - need artists in this skilled style - for sure it will lead to very high paied custom work jobs...
Where the artist and user set the price for the graphic ;) depense of what the budget is for a custom job, in users end...

This is what we approve right now - but in the future - great "stock" artist like you will also be approve ;)

Thanks Poul I appreciate it.  I've only got one image that runs along the lines of that.  I haven't had a chance to do anymore let alone 5 of them.  Maybe I'll work on people stuff this week it's been something I've been meaning to do anyway instead of backgrounds and objects and seasonal stuff.

Thank you for the kind words too and will definitely get back to the site when I have what you need.

Thanks again,

Anita

Although the idea of custom jobs seems appealing, it demands from the artist to do sketchwork for FREE with unlimited revisions(!), until the sketch is approved. Only then will the artist receive payment. No way any artist in his right mind would do something like that.

Also, the site has a lot of spelling mistakes, which make the site look unprofessional.

That is strange wording. I thought I remember reading that free sketches were recommended, but not mandatory. The only thing that was required was to work through their system for clients that contact you through Drawshop (similar to Elance). I'm sure Poul can clear it up.

Hi You...
Suddently, I will/can fix up this text...
"You are granted unlimited sketch revisions until you are completely satisfied." -its just a part of my ole concept on drawshop.com
Normally i only deliver 1-3 sketh - Then I have get the point... and get the order. The two last custom jobs I made - I do only 2 sketch on each...
It can also be a matter of how good the artist is to "get the point, the user trying to tell" About misspelling I do my best - the site is translated by some girls freinds of drawshop.com in USA I have know for a long time - but let me know if you see some there -not is spelling correct...
It will be greatfull help ;)

Regards Poul

I have always offered unlimited revisions to clients satisfaction on contract work, so not a biggy as far as I'm concerned.
As long as it's clear the client only gets the final piece....

The thing is, I always charge a price for my sketches. I don't want to spend hours on a sketch for free. Even if a client decides (after an extensive sketch phase) to stop working with me, he still has to pay for the work done so far. This is something I always make clear beforehand.

With the Drawshop system, you can spend hours on a sketch, without ever getting a garantuee for payment.

The way I see it, if u are good and u get what the customer really wants from the sketches and you get the  project there is no risk of working for hours or  for free . If he doesnt buy it, no pb, u can always use your sketches for another project and make money of it. Thats how I do it. Imposing to  a customer to pay anything before he actually sees something its a bit wild. As for working for free, im sure that the customers will be sanctioned or something for wasting your time or anybody else, but you know that too, don't you? There is no guarantee in this business-hence for the competition.
No offence.

Well, I'll give this site a try. Support is good, email response is quick. I'm gonna give the custom job feature a chance, although I don't expect too much from it.

One month later:

No downloads, no custom jobs, nothing. Quick review times, but unfortunately, no action at all. I have no idea if there's any traffic.

Who has had some sales?
