Hello everyone, I have a new business idea I would like to get your feelings about.
Prices will be much the same as everywhere else, except this is about building a relationship with designers in your home town.
By doing this, hopefully you will build your business not just in microstock. And you will receive income for photo sales, not just your own photo sales.
My idea is to create a site for your photos, but instead of spending cash on Google Words, give you 10% commission for photo sales for any designer you introduce, FOR THE LIFE OF THEIR ACCOUNT.
Basically, you would doorknock your hometown designers. You would introduce yourself as a site photographer and give them a quick speil about its virtues. You would hand them a voucher for 10% discount with a reference number to get the discount. This reference number would be your account number. So for ever more, 10% of the sales from that account would be linked to your account.
500 designers spending $US250 a year could make you an ongoing commission of around $US12000 a year! Once they created an account, all you would have to do is drop by once in a while or give them a phone call to see how things were going.
I am thinking of 25% commission for the photos.
10% commission for the sales.
Plus I would spend money on advertising.
Please tell me your thoughts.

the idea is good. Just consider a more generous royalty to photographers. 25% is a bit low, I guess.
Best luck

Microstock is a full time job for me so I really don't have the time to be knocking on designers' doors. Too time consuming for the income that will bring in.

There are NO designers in my hometown. Not one.
-
Same here..
I would love to "doorknock" my fellow hometown designers... but I think in the USA we would be arrested If we tried to knock on their foreheads....

This doorknocking sounds a bit old fashioned. And it sounds like some kind of pyramid scheme where the whole goal is to be getting this 10% rather than actually building a viable site and selling stock.
And what would be these virtues that we're giving the speil about, you seem to have brushed over that part? Is it just the 10% part, or are there other virtues? There are lots of other sites that have referral programs, maybe not lifetime, but what else do you have to offer... 10% for life is great, but 10% of not much is... well, not much.

What's the 25%. We get 75% of sales or you get 75% of sales? Is the plan we can only get 35% even if we are doing all the marketing? I'm confused.

Welcome new ideas, next - convince an investor. Anyway the old rule is to not keep all eggs in one basket. So why not something new?
-
Most sites already have a referral program of some sort. I don't see this as much different.
-
I think it is different. By how it works. In this case it can be more controllable. And it is not only that you brought a photographer to the site then receive referral money. This is a common reference share as i understood. He wants to put in a ref program just every sale made by you or through your outlet, not only from photographer which you invitedto the site. Again brainshtorming on MSG...
