Hi,

The domain name "mystock.com" has been registered by "Jon Phillips"
Are you sure you were contacted by the creator of mystock, or are you the creator ?

I don't mean to be rude here. Just wondering, if you're the creator, why not just make an plain announcement of your upcoming site ?

Erick

I was contacted by the creator of mystock today - http://www.mystock.com.  They are creating a new site and calling it a hybrid between microstock & traditional stock photography sites.  The images are going to be in the $39-$139 range. They arent up and running yet but there is a notification signup where you can leave your email and be contacted when the site is up.
Who knows? It could be a good thing.
(I accidentally posted the same thing in the "news" section - oops - sorry)

if you wish to toot your horn about your microstock site, this would be the forum to do it, but pretending to be an uploader saying that you were contact by site X when you are the actual owner of site X is a little scetchy, and doesn't make me too eager to have anything to do with it.  Honest spam is one thing, and lying spam is another.

I saw a post on another photography forum about a different microstock site.  the poster typed in a long post stating how he had tried contacting many micro and macro agencies by phone, only to be met by computer or answering machines.  He wrote an email to this new site he mentioned and in a matter of minutes the FOUNDER of the site gave him a call.  the posted continued to say how impressed he was and how great the site was.  A little search to see who registered that new site... and yep... it was the poster.    PAAALLLLEASE.

I trust the expression "Well begun is half done".
The lack of integrity and transparency from the owner of this new site does not inspire me to join at all.
Thank you Erik for doing this research, and thanks Leaf for keeping this site clean.

I also found it interesting how the original poster "accidentally" double-posted in two different forums.  OOPS...

Nice detective work Eric.  :)

I see that the original post has now been edited to remove all the "I was contacted by the creator of mystock today  ..." baloney, which seems to confirm that this was a fake piece of news.

I'm steering clear of the site. I don't really trust someone who hides their identity in that way.

I mean ... if you've started a new stock site why not say so and be proud of it? What has the guy got to hide?

I totally agree. Trying to fool people on a public forum is definately a bad way to start a business, especially when this business is based on making us contributors confident enough to send them our whole portfolios.

Thank you Erik for doing this research, and thanks Leaf for keeping this site clean.

You're welcome, it was just the matter of a 10 sec. whois search  ;)
It's just that, since the recent image theft issues, I'm a little bit touchy (read "paranoid") when it comes to new stock agencies.

Wow,
I was informed about this post today and I'm a little lost.
I am one of the developers for mystock.  I can say with about 90% certainty that Jon Phillips (one of the partners) didnt make that post as he is out of the country at the moment.  When he gets back on Monday I'll get more info and will know for sure.
We are keeping the site "hush, hush" for a few more months so it's very surprising that someone would post anything about mystock and even more surprising that the username is jphillips.  Curious, indeed.
Dont pass any judgements on us yet folks.  We're finalizing a really nice project that you'll all be proud of (hopefully).
Stay tuned.

OK,
I did a little more digging and it looks like the post DID in fact come from someone from mystock - but not Jon Phillips.
It was another developer that I work with (we have a team of 6 at the moment). I still have no clue what he was thinking or what he was trying to accomplish.
I apologize for the deception on his part.
Sorry for wasting all of your time and good luck with your photography.
Citizens go about your business, there's nothing more to see here.
Cheers.

jaha.. very interesting

now a totally NEW member from mystock has signed up.  Funny that developer #1 signed up, but now has deleted his account.... but it wasn't Jon Philips.  Did he feel bad about making his account, so he deleted it.

Funny that you didn't know about as you are both coming from the same IP address.  or wait, could you be the same person possibly!

As if being out of the country makes a difference.  I have posted from many hotel lobbies and I think Fintastic was a roving photographer for a while too.

This thread makes me laugh, some people would do anything to find some weird excuses in order to hide the facts.  Oh wait!  since it's supposed to be a team of 6, expect to get 4 more newcomers with creative new names to add to this novel  ;D

and perhaps as well as a little warning about the site.

I would like to point out that they come from the same IP address because they probably use the same router/hub at work. If the MAC addresses are the same, then we are getting somewhere.

well i just thought that if they are in an office of 6 people, they might know what each other is doing... or perhaps more of my point was, that i think it is the same person.

I'm glad this thread is still out here.  A member of my photo club mentioned this site to me last night.  He thought it was a new site along the lines of Photoshelter so I decided to do a little research today.  I see after nearly 2 years this site is still in beta!  I think I'm going to pass on this one and let my friend at the photo club know too.
