Tips:

1. Remove the words -- "Free Stock photos" ---- They are not free especially if they are our images

2. Give at least 50% commission to the artists if you truly want to lure in the best images

3. Make uploading easy to include that the meta data is imported via the image

4. Be honest with us

5. Be 'Willing' to listen to us- you may not like what we say but it's for your best business if you what to make it

Here is a simple company that most of us don't even upload there anymore or very limited due to poor sales---

https://www.canstockphoto.com/

Tell us how you can do better than them? What is your market/business strategy? Most likely you won't be able to compete with the bigger companies so how will you survive. Seen too many companies come and go the last few years...

Did I read that right on your website?
Unlimited downloads for $9,99 per month?

My only advise to you: give up.

Thank you for sharing me this example.

As you said, it is real big problems with most of new companies.
We have had a good start in the Japanese market (with an other Japanese site). So far it has been running well for about 8 years.
Now we want to step out to the world.
And faced with cultural gap is our challenge now.
Our strong is suitable for the Japanese culture environment. And it also our weakness.

Sorry, I write so long but still can not directly answer what you pointed out.  :(
Just want to sharing you more info about us.

You won't grow or attract paying customers with free images. Microstock is already really inexpensive, so eliminating paying altogether just means you are losing money. When I ran my own site, people mostly came in and bought what they needed and left. Discounts didn't tend to drive people back to the site because they had limited needs.

Hi cthoman,

I am happy to know you are doing well. It is very admirable.
I do understand what you mean, it is due to ignorance in our business.
When you're already famous now and have a lot of fans its going well.
But what will you do when no one know who you are?

And We will be very happy if you can sharing us about the time you start your own website.
Or maybe your career.

If you can make yourself the go-to for Japanese culture (and charge better prices than you are at present), why not stick at what you know?
At this stage, there's no point in taking on the giants at their own game.

I forgot the most important thing is, I am a developer, not a business man, and can not understand the market as you guys.
Maybe you can tell me what do you want from a stock website, ex terms, policy, uploading problems, any new function...

I do my best to satisfy your expected.

You're kidding right? You came to the wrong site my friend. Best to plan a fast exit strategy- deleting your account would be a good start before we chase you out of here...

First, you need a plan to market your site to buyers before you start thinking about trying to attract contributors.

Second, you need to find someone who can translate your site into good English - right now it's really not adequate.

Third, you need to think like an international site if you want to sell world wide. You have a business team photo titled "Foreign businessman" and it's a team of caucasian men and women. They may be foreign in Japan, but they are not foreign everywhere.

Fourth, you need a decent search. I did a search on your site and on Shutterstock for palm trees - your first page was full of hands (palms), nuts, daisies in an egg and so on. Shutterstock had a page of palm trees. I understand why your search behaved as it did, but it's not useful

Fifth, get rid of the free small sizes if you want to attract serious contributors

Sixth, answer the question about why anyone would buy from you versus Shutterstock or Adobe Stock.

I looked at the description of royalties and if I understand it, I would get 3 yen per download. Google tells me that's 27 cents. No deal.

There is no way I would upload under these conditions. You're sincere but really misguided, in my opinion.

Those are the real questions. They are hard ones to answers too. We all want better agencies, but the new choices we are given aren't exactly inspiring a revolution.

The second one is really the only one that counts in the current market

The domain now should be something like freewebphotos.com, i support new agencies, but free web usage is a stupid idea. I would recommend you to remove 80% of the images and start from that point with the best and nothing free! Find the top stock trends and put in front of the buyers face the best, on every top/trend keyword to show a couple of pages with really good content, if you can't do this selection this business is not for you.
