Has anyone else seen this new UK based microstock site?

http://www.photola.co.uk/

It seems like they need a couple of more photos as well...

Taken a brief glance at it ... from what I can see the quality of the photos is very variable, from reasonable to downright awful.

It looks as if they apply no inspection procedures to the photos at all ...

Anyone can contribute images to our collection. Click on the "Upload Photos" link in the main navigation for a quick and easy way to upload your images. You can manage your images from the "My Photola" control panel. From there you can edit the image details, including the price. It is recommended that you add detailed descriptions and valid and useful keywords to each image you upload, to help people find the images they are looking for. Once uploaded you can start earning money straight away.

... and from reading that it also appears that keywords and descriptions are optional too!

Much as I hate the process of keywording, and inexplicable rejections from grumpy inspectors, they both have their place.  :)

Hard to find much info there.

Anyone know what the payout figure is?

This turns up in front of the search on the tag 'female':
http://www.photola.co.uk/show_image.php?photo=1750&name=Breast+Cancer - no comment I guess...

I don't understand your point. Are you saying she is no longer a female because she lost her breast to cancer?  ???

No, I was only saying that if this kind of (badly taken) photo turns up as first in the search for 'female', this isn't a stock site, but a medical site or something like www.rotten.com.

We are talking about stock right? Happy cheering people, concepts that sell. I bet someone can make a good stock photo of the concept of 'living with breast cancer' but this certainly isn't one.

----------

Another point, they don't tell how to upload unless you register. Fine, I registered. Then it turned out that you have to upload your photos one by one, and fill in your IPTC info (title, descr, tags) in the webform. No IPTC extraction, no FTP of course.

That other UK startup Geckostock is doing much, much better.

I hope you're kidding.

all sorts of photos are needed out there in the world... i sell photos of leaves in gutters - people need photos of leaves in gutters! They aren't "happy cheering people" but they do sell so someone must need them.

Stock isn't just about happy stuff.
