There was an old post from 2009 in the forum about Picture Nation. I was reading an article in a UK photography magazine this month about turning your photos into cash (!!), and the agencies recommended were Alamy, Picture Nation, Shutterstock, Bigstock and iStock. As the posters identified in 2009, it does seem to be more of a travel/editorial site, but has anyone had any success in sales at the site with those sort of images. I have a number in my portfolio, but wanted a bit of advice before going to the trouble of uploading.
Any updates very welcome!

Newsfocus1 (David) is the only person I know who's had success there.

Hi Steve, depending on your meaning of "success" I have had a number of sales there over the years. That said, it has gone very quite for me in recent months. I can, of course, only speak for myself as PN contributors are pretty scarce here so I do not know how it is doing for anyone else.
My sales have mainly been from my archive celeb images (politicians etc). Other images sold include some from Hastings (the pier etc) and animal shots. What hasn't sold for me there are my Greek island images (just one sale) though they do well on the micro sites.
Again, of course, I have no idea what is working for other people there. I'm seeing a lot more of typical micro images (isolated on white etc) appearing there -so maybe people are selling those.
The commission is a decent 40% and most of my sales are medium/high res sales paying £4 and £6 commission (that's quite a few subs sales on micro sites). I like them, they are a friendly and small team, uploading is easy and I'll keep them in my workflow. I know a new version of the site is being worked on (no live date as yet).
BTW I'd be interested in seeing that magazine article -which one was it in? Interesting selection -where's Dreamstime?

The magazine was Photoplus - the Canon specific magazine - for Spring 2012. It was an OK article - not too gushing, but a bit short on the real details of selling stock images. For that you need to get my eBook!! ;)

After uploading 5 images, they want 10 pounds of money... that's very strange. No wonder they have a very limited amount of images.

A quote from their page: "To have more than 5 images live you need to upgrade to a PN Pro account. This enables you to upload as many images as you like to our inspection team, have your images checked for copyrights, tags and keywords, and marketed to buyers."
Do they know there are sites that have PAID contributors for uploading? (Zoonar, Depositphotos, Veer...)

This seems like a scam, attracting conributors to upload 5 images and then make the profit out of the images (they won't never earn enough to get paid nor can they delete the images - they are locked for months).
This really pisses me off.

REMOVING YOUR IMAGES:
You agree to leave your photograph on the picturenation website for a minimum of 6 months from the date of publication.
If you wish to remove your photograph from the picturenation website after that time you should inform the company by e-mail or in writing and the photograph will be removed within 14 working days from time the request is received. Completed sales transactions to buyers remain valid even if you remove images from picturenation and close your account.

I looked at some portfolios over there. It didn't take too long to find portfolios with 5 images.
They are bad, bad, bad, bad people over there that should be ashamed of themselves. They are practically stealing people's images and blackmailing for money.

18,619 members x 10 would be a lot of money..

I paid £10, uploaded over 350 and have made £11.60 after several years, so it seems like a waste of time. Only sold 3 cheap subs so far this year. Perhaps magazines are more likely to recommend sites that have spent money advertising with them? PN is one of the few sites I wish I hadn't bothered with.

Now this is what I love being a member of MSG. Saw someone reccomending the site on the internet (guess it is a copy of the above mentioned article). It sounded promising, came here, search for the site name, got to this thread, got informed, got pissed of, got out of there, no time wasted, no damage done.

Hi, I use them because It's just about the easyest site you can upload photos on. I find it a very good site. The take from 1 hour to 1 week to review your pictures ad tell you things like your text needs updating or we do not require this type of picture. 95% usually pass. They are quick to reply to any questions you have. They are based in a University. I have no sales yet as I have only been on there for a couple of months. This site is geared more for the amateur photographer who has a point and shoot camera and goes around there local town taking photos of anything and everything. You might need to touch up your photos on an editing software program of which there are lots of free ones on line that are easy to use. You can see some of the company's that use there pictures like.sky and the BBC etc. they have a list of some of the company's that use there photos.

They're useless until they start selling regularly. Who cares if they get everything else right? If you have a decent camera and some basic skills, alamy are just as good at accepting photos and they sell a lot.
