Hi George,

I have just seen your site and one thing I really like is that you accept smaller images.  I have tons of very good 640x480 pix images that can't be accepted anywhere, though they are perfectly suitable for websites and even small images in printed material such as flyers.  However, by selling 0.06pix and 6Mpix at the same price, you won't attract people who work at the high res range.

I also see that you're using Ktools software (correct me if I'm wrong), which has a horrible search tool, quite useless - and a search tool is a very important feature in a stock photo website.

Another thing is that I see some very bad images in color or composition or focus.  I know it is natural to be less picky at first to make the site's portfolio grow, but then it's a tough market and you need to be special, offer something outstanding, to be able to compete.  Keywords are also a problem - try to search for jeans and see what you find.

I hope this feedback helps.  I'm always looking for new sites to grow together - I've been into stock photography for just a few months - but by now I think your site won't attract most of the contributors here.

Regards,
Adelaide

Hi Adelaide,
Thanks for the feedback.
1. A new search engine with advanced features to search within catagories and by photographer will be updated within the next week, lightbox and hover view updates are also coming.

2. Yes, we do except some smaller photos, seeing that a large part of the stock photo market is web designers, and most webdesigners don't need 2400x2400 photos, and it's a shame to waste a perfectly wonderful shot if some one can use it! We do want to focus mostly on high res photos though (obviously), annd already have quite a few talented photographers contributing.

3. As far as poor quality shots and keywords.... there were quite a few photos bulk uploaded (1000-3000) within the last 48 hours, and some photos were accepted that should not have been, we are going through as I type, those bad shots should be out of there within 24 hours....

Thanks alot for taking the time to give feedback.
George

Hi..i looked around your site and could not find any information on contributor's agreements.  Accoeding to the buyers agreement the site owns full copyrights.  I would be hesitant to upload anything without knowing in advance what is exactly expected and offered.

Hi George

Have visited your site with a view to signing up but have the same reservations as Judy -

"GreatStockPhoto hereby represents that it owns all rights and copyrights to all materials on our website, and all rights and copyrights to said website and materials shall remain the exclusive property, right and control of and under GreatStockPhoto and  Materials from our website will constitute and be defined as any photo, image, design, or layout represented on the GreatStockPhoto website"

Surely unless you buy the images (at great cost as they would not then be available for sale elsewhere) the copyright remains with the photographer/artist ?

Well George... I'll be honest here: I don't trust it. In your homepage banners you pass off images from best selling Fotolia photographers that aren't ANYWHERE on your site. In fact I have doubts whether or not these images have been purchased at all, as they are exactly the same size as thumbs on Fotolia's start page.

I have to agree, very shady, $12.99 for unlimited downloads in a month, and you expect to pay the photographer 92 cents per download. Doesn't add up to me

They claim to have over 35,000 photos, but I'm not sure that I believe them.

I searched for the following:

dog: 4 results
flag: 8 results
flower: 51 results

Yeah, I get your point. Especially with the flower, it should have a bigger ratio since it's one of the most common type of stock photo in every site.

Hi All,

Just to reply on this new site great stock photo. I uploaded 17 images for review and left them on over a week. they never review them so i deleted them. I feel that if they were serious about their site they would repond quicker.

Re: GreatStockPhoto

More on this site. I uploaded some images about 3 weeks ago. They have never reviewed, and it seems now that I can't get any information about where my images are. When I click on "View/Edit Photos I have for sale" it takes me nowhere. There is no way indicated on the site to communicate with the admins. They have been showing the same 50 "newest" photos and the same 50 "most popular" for two weeks. I'd really like to get my images off of there, but am at a loss as to how I can do this. Any suggestions? :'(

One thought is that it might be scam.  He was just trying to get a hold of a lot of full rez files to re-sell at other sites.  A couple of guys in China got nailed for this a month or so back.  They were making quite a bit of money.

George did leave his phone number in his first post--1.800.303.0911 ext 122. If it is a scam (and how would we find that out?) maybe we can track him down.

He seems to be running some other e-sites, i.e. MyCompanyNow: Professional Corporate Design; eBooks.cc: Instant Downloads For $2.99; and GeekFace.com: Get Certified Today!

My inner detective has me curious and suspicious. :o

I see a couple of problems. On their main site, they advertise photogs get .92 per download, but in the fine print it says, .79. Also, the main banner for buyers is a weekly subscripiption, which has been changed to monthly. The aforementioned fine print says, we get nothing for those sales. See the agreement below. Who would pay .99 each for a shot when you can get unlimited for $13. Also, I did a search on beach, which I use as a benchmark on micro-sites. It returned 32 images, of which at least 6 had nothing to do with the beach. In short, they have no inventory, and I see no benefit in giving them any.

Signing up and uploading your photos is Free. We handle all sales, promotion and managment and you get .79 for each photo that is sold and downloaded individually through GreatStockPhoto (100% of the download fee minus a PayPal processing fee). You do not get paid for downloads made by members who have purchased the weekly subscription, as this is how GreatStockPhoto makes our revenue from the site.

No income off of the subscription model.  No wonder they can charge $13 a week and offer unlimited downloads.  They aren't giving the photags any of the profit.  So basically it is a marketing scam.  They can claim they are giving photags 100% of the profits, they just don't tell you that it is only for single downloads (except in the fine print).  And most likely most of their downloads will be from their subscription, which means photags won't get a dime.  These marketing tricks drive me nuts.  I've lost all desire to try out new microstock sites, unless they have been proven by others.

Great find.

It literally pays to read the fine print...

Wow, this is truly awesome.  What a clever scam.  Think of the kind of mind it takes to come up with something like this, and then the lack of conscience it takes to implement it.  This is the same kind of person that sells Xbox 360 Boxes on ebay -- and people pay $350 and find out that they literally bought only the cardboard box. Wow.

Yeah.... who'll be stupid (pardon for the word) enough to download via the 99cents when he could have unlimited download for a month for only $12.99. Good find on the the fine print though...

Hi,

I am just after buying this WebSite (Yesterday) newbielink:http://www.GreatStockPhoto.com [nonactive], looked like it was nicely put together, I think the Model the previous owner was using was wrong in a few different ways which I hope to correct.

I would Love to get some suggestions from some of the people here of what I can do to turn this site into something special.

I think :

(1) the Subscription feature has to go

(2) High Quality Photos submitted by photographers are being lost in categorys full of Low Res Photos, this needs to be addressed, I would prefer to focus on quality content rather than have a million unoriginal stock photos on board.

(3) Marketing (What I know best)

All suggestions are welcome

Regards

Tommy Morris

I submitted images months ago and could never find them on the site. Have no idea whether they were ever on the site. There was no way to communicate with the site regarding this. I thought it was a bogus site. Still will until I see something different. Sorry, don't believe it'll be any different now unless you show some movement. Tired of uploading images for who knows what purposes.  :'(

Hi,

Sorry to here that, if you can Pm me details I will see if I can find them from your info.

Photographers submit photos in the hope of selling them and making money.
I bought this site with the view to making money.

From what I can see its being a race to the bottom price wise for photo's with so many sites out there selling them.

Which means small profits for photographers and for whoever is running the site unless they are selling lots of photos.

I would love some suggestions from members here on what changes they would like?

All the Best

Tommy Morris
