another German site? no thanks  :D

Not that I have anything against Germans, on the contrary I like them BUT:

I was on panthermedia once, hated it, and left it.. Unless they are at least middle tier, I am passing on German sites..

They do weird stock photo sites..

Their watermark is TERRIBLE! Just a quick crop (without losing hardly any of the image!) and you're all set.

No thanks.

wow, you're not wrong about the watermark! That is pointless really.

I've never heard of these guys Leaf. The entire "sell your stock photos" section is only in German it seems? Makes it kind of hard for the majority of people to get a good idea what they are about!

Hi Luis Santos,

thanks for your interest contributing images at shotshop.com. please let me explain that we are mainly focussed on the german speaking markets with more selected images and even higher prices than the usual microstocks. It doens't make sense for us to display the same images like the subscription stocks. I am sorry and hope for your understanding.

good luck and
best regards
Stephan Krmer

Germany is one of the biggest stock photo markets in Europe, you're sales from other agencies like shutterstock probably contain a decent number of German customers.

Shotshop used to be an excellent site when I started in 2008. All photos used to cost 30 , the commission was 15 and they sold quite well. In fact they were one of my favorite sites in my early days, in a good month RPI was really good.
They probably faced tough competition from microstock sites, lowered the prices, introduced commission levels, etc. Since their new website went online (I guess somewhere around 2010) I hardly sell anything there, but honestly I haven't been uploading there since then.

Once you reminded me of them, I might start uploading again, since those days the quality of my images has increased significantly, maybe shotshop is still alive.

I don't remember saying Germany is a small market :) so why this response?

where in my post I said anything negative about Germans (as people) and Germany (as a country)?  I AGREE with all you said..

All I said was: They do weird stock photo sites.. AND THEY DO! (imho)

1- this site has an awful watermark
2- panthermedia had the worst contributor pages.. (at least when I was contributing to them, don't know If they improved) but I never felt it was user friendly..
3- they all have quite low sales compared to top and middle tier..
4- all of the above are good enough reasons to not contribute to German sites..

If one day a German stock photo site comes out and proves me wrong, I will be happy..

Local agents tend to sell better than foreign agents. They know the market better. Getty Images has deals with local agencies in many foreign countries for this very reason, so, if you can get in with them and avoid a second middle man, you could do much better.
