Does anyone have a feel for whether sales on 500px are affected by how "popular" your images are? Ie is an image with a higher current or past pulse more likely to sell?

Nope. Most of my images were in popular. It has nothing to do with sales that I got.

This place was so difficult to navigate, having to manage two sites, no watermarks, would not let me upload more than 10 images at a time, that I quit. I let them keep my membership and just deleted my account. What a shame as they have a possibility to be a good site. If all of these issues were fixed I'd probably give them another shot. For me, I am being pretty selective now on which sites I upload to as some have generated little or no return.....it takes a lot of time to upload 3000 images. With 500 PX I couldn't get past a few hundred before I closed my newly opened account.

Now they offer unlimited upload, few days offer. It still doesn't encourage me and my friends as watermark is still unavailable. They need more time to learn some (obvious) things...

if you check it out completely you see it's more like another flckr/fb..social media site
with ppl more interested in having more thumbs ,likes, visitors, pokes,...
but nothing to do with sales.
these sites make money on ads and traffic, and nothing goes to you for being there.
not unless you want to be famous with all the other snapshooters who enjoy others liking them.
like fb having thousands of friends but none really cares what you say
only that you cheer them on for adding new quotes and snapshots of you and your dirty laundry

I actually find it interesting to see what images of mine work for an audience. I know it's not the be all and end all, and I'm definitely not going to spend time running around trying to force my stuff up higher or changing my style massively to suit, but it gives me a different perspective on my work than my friends and family and that's not a bad thing.

I've read the other recent threads on 500px and I understand the pros and cons discussed in those. None of those related to my question. I was just curious to know if being "popular" had any practical implications.

P.S. I haven't seen any ads on 500px. Not sure it's _quite_ like facebook...
