Got this email a few minutes ago. More than expected, imho.

---------------

Hi
It is with great regret that i shall have to close Geckostock.
All images will be deleted from disk this week.
Any payments due will be paid over the next few weeks.

The site went down yesterday and i decided not to try and get things running due to low sales.
I can't see any future in the site.

I would like to thank you all for your past support and for allowing Geckostock the right to show your images.
Those of you that worry about your images please don't the disk will have a full reformat and your images will never be used or saved in any way.

I would like to ask newcomers to Geckostock and the world of stock in general please don't be put off by your experience at Geckostock and to upload to other stock sites as you maybe more succesfull. Please try new sites as they maybe more successful than Geckostock.

I think a whole new way of selling stock is needed for the success of a new site. This may come soon!

I have enjoyed the time spent with all the contributors and learnt so much.

Thank you and good luck with sales.

When they were known as RSi they made the same mistake LuckyOliver did and subsequently suffered the same consequence.

I never thought they would make it.  It seems the only way to get a site running is to have a big advertising budget and get the buyers in from the start.  Sites that think the buyers will find them have failed.

Funny nobody even mentioned GS in that old thread after LO:

I never uploaded there. But I sympathize with anybody who follows their dream. I thought the letter was well done. And he vowed to pay out what was owed. Classy.

Wow, until this thread I didn't know Geckostock was gone. I guess I missed the notification email.

Anyway, Richard was really nice, and even offered to send me some photos I'd lost thanks to hard drive crash and failure to back up frequently enough (though I didn't have to take him up on it since LuckyOliver came though on request I made to them a while ago and sent me DVD of my entire portfolio just before it shut down.)

Leaf, have you decided what sites to replace LuckyOliver and Geckostock with on your monitor?

I'd like to see you get as much opportunity as possibly to get referral credits, and it's a bit depressing to see LO and GS on monitor, though, of course, I don't have clue what kind of work's involved to update the monitor.
not a time for smiles - ann
