I just got accepted there today (which was a feat in itself as I'm still on a phone LOL) was wondering how sales were for you if they're steady or stagnet.

Interested in all your thoughts and experiences.

Thanks,

Anita

I can't say I have experience with the site - but there are a few threads (check the bottom of this page) about them from before.

It seems like the action is pretty slow there - unless things changed in the last few months...

Thanks leaf.  I also didn't know about the related threads underneath my post I thought they were recent posts from the same forum *slaps self*

That's exactly what I was fishing for oin here as well ;)  If things had changed over there with the implementation of their credit system and if that has affected anything in the way oif sales good or bad.  Or if things have remained the same from the peeps that posted bout it last year.

Thanks :)

I don't like them. They price almost everything at 1$ and at 25% commission that's 25 cents earning! That's less than a sub. And it's a full size-editable vector file on-demand.Major rip-off. They also have some weird requirements for the thumbnail jpeg.

sites like this caters to hobbyists and thieves... no person who makes money on his/her skills as an artist in the western world will give away years of training for pennies...

So which one do you think I am? Hobbyist or thief?

Actually anyone who can generate a decent number of sales there with decent images can quickly get past that 25% level and on to 30% or more. Only took me about 2 months to do it.

But of course I'm just a hobbyist, so obviously for a pro like VB it would take far less time. ;)

I've uploaded a few images there and stopped after realizing the low commission for a fully editable vector.  I now upload to another vector focused site that pays a fair rate and also offers raster versions of those images.

Your looking out for your own interests by spreading your work out to as many places as you can getting a few bucks here and there on sites that have good quality artwork for ridiculously low prices. The problem i have about supporting sites like these are there will always be people like you that is constantly driving down the perception of how much you can buy an image for in this market. Buyers get accustomed to seeing certain type of work for such a low rates they will think everything else is too expenisive. I put u in the thief category because essentially, your robbing future generations of designers livelyhood by getting your quick bucks now.

This is the same deal Shutterstock offers. In fact, the vectorstock deal is better because they do sell some images higher than $1 and you have the option of moving up to 40% pay rate. SS doesn't offer those things. You can also move up the pay scale at Vectorstock much faster than at SS. If you have a problem with me working with Vectorstock, you should have just as big a problem with everyone on this forum working with SS. If I'm a thief, everyone that works with SS gets that same label, by your definition.

Can I ask if you sell with SS yourself?

Difference is at SS buyers have to buy 750 of them, on VS you can buy them one by one.
But I agree with you, Vectors should cost more.

Yes, keep in mind the difference between a subscription model and a PPD-model. No other agencies offer PPD full editable vectors at such low rates. Also, all files are priced at $1, exceptions are extraordinarily rare.

A total ripoff in my opinion.

How? It's a better deal than at SS. The pay grades are better, and you hit them faster than at SS. Who cares if it's PPD. You'll get more per sale from Vectorstock than SS over the long-run.

How can you sell at SS and call Vectorstock a ripoff?

Yes... IMO everyone that participates is subscriptions is contributing to the problem. Its only this way since all the power is in the hands of business and not the contributor. There need to be some sort of a union/group that has some leverage or voice.
i dont agree with the subscription model so i dont upload to SS.
I only upload to one place and u can pretty much figure that one out and most of my stuff is vectors... there is a reason for me to go incognito on here as i am seeing what else is out there and doing my homework and find out about vectorstock. this site really pisses me off.

Just as described above. With SS and other subscription models, the whole idea is that you're downloading A LOT of images, that's why they can give the "discount". If you want to compare SS to VS, you need to compare their PPD-models (at SS a single image would cost approximately $10-12 where at VS you can buy them for $1).

I wouldn't mind at all if I got 30 cents for a subscription sale at VS, but I'd rather have a kick in the face than receive 25-40 cents from a full vector image PPD sale. In comparison, these are the rates at other sites for the very same size and license:

StockXpert: $10
iStockPhoto: $15+
Dreamstime: $14+
Fotolia: $5+ (Too cheap in my opinion)

Vectorstock really stands out with its $1, and more people should be aware of this huge difference.

It DOES matter to me whether it was bought from a subscription or was a single image download. Why? Because no one would need a subscription in a world where you could just pick whatever you wanted for the same price per image. Subscription models are there to ensure that people buy more images than they would otherwise.

Btw Helix, I'm not here to determine which sites others should and shouldn't upload to. That's entirely not up to me to decide. This is just my opinion and the reason I don't endorse Vectorstock.

When I started at IS, there were a lot of 1 credit vectors that I seem to remember getting a quarter for as well. Those are pretty much extinct now though.

I definitely would rather get paid a little more at VectorStock, but I don't really consider it a crime to upload there. I think it is a good little site. It probably won't ever have the bulk of portfolio, but I think it is worth having a presence there.
