Hey guys. Just got a promotional email from www.paxxion.com

It's a new RF agency that offers a different kind of deal. You pay them a subscription of 20Euro/month. In exchange you get to give any price you like to your images and get to keep full commition. Sounds interesting but I really don't know how much traffic there is on that site yet  ???

On their email they offered me a 6 month subscription free access with the allowance to upload 300 of my images (probably their default offer). I assume when you start paying them the 20euro, they allow you more images online.

Not sure I'll join before I'm sure they've got clients. If anyone decides to join, let us know if sales are moving there ;)

Cheers

well interesting concept and it would probably work if they had decent traffic... not sure it will fly though.  I am not willing to pay 20Euro each month while I wait for the site to get traffic.  6 months free helps but i don't think that is long enough time to get good enough traffic to make it worth it.

Might check it out a little more though.

Hmm had no idea. Let me post the email  :

Dear Artist,

I'm one of creators and administrators of a new portal for the on-line sale of royalty-free images.
We've seen your on-line portfolio, and we believe that you could be interested about joining our community.
Unlike most of the portals we don't ask for commissions on your sales, we ask only for a modest 20 Euros semestral fee (for you in promotion at zero cost). Moreover, you are totally free to choose whatever price you think it's right for your artworks.
To stimulate you to join our community and to bring your portfolio in our archive, we're proposing you this offer:

- A six months free subscription to post a portfolio of 300 of your pictures.

Considering that we have a via ftp upload system recognizing IPTC data, the uploading of your portfolio will take place with maximum speed.

We think that you'll have everything to gain by making our community grow, and we hope that you'll find interesting our project.
You can visit us at:

http://www.paxxion.com

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So since they offer the six month free subscription I might give it a go with 300 of my best selling one and see how they go...

Just had a quick look there. Not many images up yet.

A long way to go but obviously seeking contributors.

Just in case, I subscribed and got my upgraded account.  Neat, it's automatic, when you reach the 10 uploads on the free account you are upgraded to the pro account.  Keywords are limited to 20 entries.

It's an Italian company.  I still have to check if translation works well (I have seen weird things at Fotolia!)

Regards,
Adelaide

sounds interesting but not sure if it will work. if nothing sells or sales are low, you will loose out and the site has nothing to loose cos you are effectively paying to put your photos there. i usually dont upload to anything that asks me for money upfront until it is tried and tested cos it could mean that my money goes down the drain,

yeah, isn't this what shutterpoint is trying to do (charging to have your pictures online).  I don't think they are doing too well.... mind you this site is limiting the prices to microstock prices so perhaps they will be a little more succesful in that regard.

Only 20 keywords ????? ouch.  all the other sites like shutterstock and istock have a limit to 50, which means most of my images have near 50 keywords.  If i have to reduce every image i upload down to 20 keywords that would be a little too much work i think.

Peiling,

Their proposal is to make money out of the subscription, not the sales.  Maybe it will work.  So far we don't need to pay anything, only after 6 months - it's a way for them to build a portfolio.

Leaf,

I am at Shutterpoint and so far the earnings are higher than the costs for me.  Why do you say they are not doing well?  Some people there have reported many sales this month (unfortunately not me!), sometimes even 5 images from the same buyer.

Usage is more permissive in SP than in microstock, for instance you can use images in items for resale such as calendars, what would mean an extended license in microstock.  Paxxion is limiting price in the free account only; in the pro version you can set them as high as you want.

Adelaide

Well if they didn't offer that free period , no one would really risk it to go there :) It might work but to tell you the truth, I believe when you start a new agency you need to have some well know contributor with special deals so you can start off with a rather good amount of images already available.

when a person visits your website to see that you've got 3000 images online, they'll probably look somewhere else. At least you should not display how many image you've got before you reach a certain amount!

Some update on Paxxion.  They are implementing accepting more than 20 keywords.  I have tried it, it's working (through FTP only, I think).  The site admin has been helpfull on this issue.  I invited him to join here and contact people directly.

Adelaide

Got a sale already!  :)

There is something though: each sale is directed to the photography owner directly in his Paypal account.  I had to confirm the transaction.  Is there a way to do it automatically?  One problem is that it means a loss of not only a certain % but of a fixed US$0.30 for each sale.  And there is another point, the basic Paypal account only accepts 5 credit card transactions a year, so I would need to upgrade to a Premium account.  I couldn't find an answer at Paypal website, how much do they charge for the Premium account?

Adelaide

Passion has an advertisement in big colored letters at the bottom of every page on this site for the unlogged users.  Leaf, are you getting paid by them, or did you put it yourself ?  If you don't have anything to do with it, I guess they know where to place their ad to reach the photographers...

I told Marco (site owner) about this forum, but I think he was already aware of it.  I hadn't noticed the ads, why do they show only when you are not yet logged in?

Adelaide

the ads only show when you are not logged in to punish the people who just browse the forums but don't participate.   :P

If they are watching but not contributing perhaps they will click on an add and help pay for their bandwidth use :)

those are are signed up and hopefully making a comment every now and then don't have to put up with the ads.  They are contributing enough allready.

that add is a google adwords add... I don't get to choose who advertises there..... or I can exclude people if I want to I suppose.

Hello!

I'm here to answer to everyone that can be interested about Paxxion's activities.
www.paxxion.com [nofollow]
We are a community that allow you to sell images without commissions. We ask you only a fixed fee (20 euros/6 months) to show and sell 200 images and with free prices.
We also have an unlimited free plan that allow you to sell only 10 images without agency's commission.

In these days we have great offers active, that allow you to create an annual account with 300 images space for free. We have FTP system and we read IPTC data (50 keywords), so to try it's very easy and cheap (cheap? free!).
We have an affiliation program called "Stocker Reward" that give to Paxxion's user that just have a portfolio of 150 images the opportunity to earn 5 euros for each friend brought to Paxxion with 100 images.

Our group at the moment is small, but we hope that will be a great opportunity for artists.
To everyone that will help our Paxxion to grow, thanks! I will try to help you.

I'm trying out paxxion as well. I can't find anywhere to specify my PayPal account. Do they just assume it's the same as my email address?

On Paxxion the mail of PayPal account where you receive your payments is the same of registration. You can modify it, but it's the same one.

I would highly suggest adding another email address.  My main email and paypal email are different and I wouldn't want to use the same one for a variety of reasons.

Thanks, we consider this suggestion,

but take attention that the e-mail that you declare in registration, the main address for comunication with Paxxion and that identify you, is not a public e-mail. Only the website admin can see it.
The public e-mail that you can show in your public profile may be different, and you can show no e-mail if you want. Your only "personal data" public on the website is your username.
