Title: www.Photospin.com
Post by: leaf on February 23, 2006, 03:34
Is anyone submitting to this site?  It looks interesting and like they have been around a little while, but I am not sure i want to bother uploader some shots to yet ANOTHER site if it is not worth my time.

Well I have found out a few things.

Instead of giving a comission for each sale, they pay a flat rate of $10.00 for accepted image... that's all.. that's it.
I haven't decided if this is a good or bad deal yet though. I am not sure how to decide.  If one figures $5.00/image/year then that is only 2yrs worth of downlaods.. which isn't that good.  If you average $2.00/image/year on a site.. then it is like 5 years of downloads which sounds quite a bit better.  They don't have the image exclusivly so you can still sell them on other RF sites (as far as I understand)

A bit more info

but the conclusion first.  I will not upload to these guys.  It doesn't seem like a good idea, and it appears they would be taking advantage of me and my images.

-you sell them the rights to sell your images indefinatly for $10.00 a piece.
-they have the right to sell our images on their sites and through their 'channels'
-they can sell your images for use on products for sale ie web templates, tshirts, posters
-they 'ask' you not to list the images with their competitors :S

doesn't seeem like a good plan.  They would get my images, then have the 'right' to sell them through their channels... which sounds vague enough to include places like shutterstock if they wanted....... no thanks.

I also didn't like that I had to go through an email discussion to get this information from them.  I think they should be able to just post it on the website, like all the other companies so that people know what they are offering.

For me this is mostly "giving" the rights to use my images for $10.00.

This kind of deals it's BAD for the photographers. I've never checked the small box to sell the rights of one image for 200 or 300. I don't see the point. Images are all a photographer can have to earn him money to the future. Sell them for 10USD seems a really bad idea.

The bad thing is that I believe they will get rich in a short period because there are many people in desperate need of money. And this can be a fast earner.

but how fussy are they. I have probably a thousand images that have been turned down, for silly reasons.

If nobody else accepts them, hey $10!

litifeta,

Have you tried uploading these rejected images to them?  Of course, this would be quite good, I wonder if they haven't also thought people might do it...

Adelaide

I'll give it a try. Signed up on line. You have to give them a website for evaluation. Not sure what the next step is.

Ok, think they're going to mail me an agreement. We'll see. As someone said, it would have to be non-starters or why would you do it.
