Title: 2 questions: deleting images, ftp
Post by: gka 123 on November 11, 2012, 10:39
I hope I’m posting in the right place.  If not, please advise.  I have 3 questions.

I submitted 24 photos to ShutterStock and BigStock, using FileZilla.  This was the first time I used FZ, so it didn’t go smoothly, but I successfully uploaded to SS.  I had problems with BS and in the end I uploaded only 17images successfully – but I uploaded them twice – and the images as well as the acceptances and rejections were different in each lot.  The result is my portfolio at BS now has 5 duplicate images.  My portfolio is small (67 images), so the duplicates are obvious.

My questions are:

1.  Is it possible to delete the duplicates easily?  Will I have to go through BS to delete them?

2.  Is it better just to leave the duplicates?  Frankly I wouldn’t bother if my portfolio weren’t so small.

3.  Do most people here use ftp to upload?  If so, is FileZilla the best choice?

I’ll appreciate any help you can give.

1. At BS, you can't delete pictures yourself. You can write support by specifying the id number of each picture to delete (after at least 7 days):

3. Yes, FTP is the way to go. Faster and easier, especially if you upload to many sites. It really makes no difference which program you use. I use either Filezilla or the free version of CrossFTP.

I used to use FileZilla, but now is an FTPRush fan. Just remember some sites takes longer than others before FTP uploads shows. SS is very fast, while some other sites can take up to 24 hours. If my FTP client indicated a successful upload, I do not re-upload unless 24 hours have passed, to make sure that the process is not just slow (else, as you experienced, double uploads).

Start perhaps putting your images in batches and keep track to which sites you have uploaded which batch. This will help you with the duplication problem, till you are more used to the process.

Best of luck further.

Thanks.  I'm going to go ahead and have the duplicates deleted.  Hopefully I'll get fluent in FileZilla, then check out some options.

Again, I appreciate your responses.
