I love photography and I love stock. I hear and read so many forums and comments about microstock.. even stuff like "scam" and what not. I guess the question everyone wonders is if you can make money from stock even now in 2018.. So I decided to sincerely help new photographers as I always help anyone who emails me and asks questions. I did create a video on this and I am being as honest as possible and hopefully help... again, I am not promoting myself or anything like that but after 11 years I feel like I need to step out and just overturn all the bad stuff I hear...  if you guys can let me know what you think it would be greatly appreciated... again, I am sincerely trying to help out... VIDEO is here newbielink:https://youtu.be/10JSRmxG0aA [nonactive]
Thank you Zdenka

OK.  :D

What I think?

I think that promoting selling stock is probably the worst thing you can do if you plan on continuing selling stock.  :P

Well, I've only been a half year (6 months) I have a portfolio of approximately 650 photographs per agency (SS, IS, AS,) and I have already paid my first 50 dollars of Shutter and it seems that this month I will do my second payment of a little more, if You can win but it's a lot of work at first, Luck !!

Hi Zdenka,

Thanks for your video - very interesting serving as an accurate starting point for those considering starting out at this difficult game. I agree 100% that high-value commercial stock requires the key ingredients of both "simplicity and realism". This is illustrated nicely by your hair images and yoga shoot. Well done and thumbs up!

All the best - Alex

After 11 years you can be positive especially after creating such a marketable port.

However, for a newbie you make it sound almost effortless.

You say that after just getting your first dslr camera which you didn't know how to use well, the reasons you got into microstock was to get published and to start making money right away.

Very often when our work is published, we remain largely anonymous as the publishers often don't give us any credit and of course we don't make money right away, I mean decent money. If just starting in microstock it takes years to make decent money.

I did however like that you showed us your first shoots and you mentioned how badly they flopped, which was bringing it back to reality.

At around 8 minutes you say " this is my passive income, I don't have to do much and the money is still coming in."

You have almost 15000 images on ss, there will be images you sent too which were never accepted, which I think you mention. As far as I know you work alone. You have done a lot of work. The point is, it is work like other jobs. You work and then receive an income. The difference is you work by your own timetable and not the timetable of a boss, but it is work none the less. I find too that my earnings will drop if I have several months of not uploading, so to keep the revenue at a high level you have to keep on working. I would say a truly passive income is putting money in shares or a high interest account.

I did enjoy your video and I'm looking forward to the next ones. Your success is well earned. Well done!

Thank you for your video. I'm a supernewbie and started on SS pretty much as you did. Saw my first few sales and it's encouraging, especially in the direction of taking better photographs. Income wise I guess it's early to speak but I noticed that if I don't "feed" SS, SS doesn't feed me.  ;)

Thanks again for your video an the encouragement.

So you're saying helping your competitors for free is a bad idea?

Lovely presentation. Well done! A little surprised that you didn't have a greater emphasizes on "environmental".....but then it's a "subject" that doesn't seem to resonate much with agencies either.

I appreciate all the great feedback guys, I know there is much more I could have covered but I was very conscious of the limited time I could hold the attention of the audience. I was told 10-15 mins is about as long as you can push the attention span of many viewers nowadays.

As you could see it was my first video. If your interested I have another I uploaded on "Rejection" but I don't want to highjack this thread :-)

I understand what you're saying about environmental and as much as I personally find it important as many others do, this along with many other subjects does not get the attention it deserves. I have experimented recently on uploading some of the less well-known areas and have, to my surprise sold 5 images almost immediately.

I will be sharing this information in my next video (3rd) one before Christmas, hopefully by the end of this week. The next video will show that some subjects are seasonal and yet become more so depending on the time of the year (there's a clue).

TBH I was fed up of producing Christmas themes in October :-)

Got a good tip for you guys... Editorial: Yellow vests :-)
