Title: can i submit same image to multiple agencies?
Post by: alieshia on June 21, 2015, 15:12
can i submit same image to multiple agencies? I have 4 images on iStock and made 3 sales, 2 are partner program and 1 is image subscription, no idea where these are used as googles reverse look up hasn't found them. finally gotten around to being ready to upload a load more and start shooting specifically for stock but am a complete newbie when it comes to unsderstanding stock agencies, thank you for reading!

You're not submitting exclusively to IS.  You can submit wherever you like.  Start by reading your contributor agreement.

If you make pictures with an iPhone, you can submit to multiple agencies from a single app. Use Pixendr
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pixendr/id972437430?ls=1&mt=8 (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pixendr/id972437430?ls=1&mt=8)

For Royalty Free yes - you can submit those images anywhere you want to. If you submit Rights Managed it's more complicated but you can't have a rights managed image one place that you sell royalty free elsewhere (because you'll have no idea who, where, how or how long the RF images are in use and thus can't provide many of the desired options to an RM buyer).

Some agencies - Fotolia and Dreamstime are two examples - let you submit exclusive images. If you take that option, then those particular images should not be submitted anywhere else.

As long as you're not an exclusive contributor, you can submit to as many as you'd like. I submit to almost 20.

And bear in mind that Alamy don't have RF-editorial, so if you have editorial files RF elsewhere, you can't have them on Alamy, as they'd need to be RM. They also tend to be more 'conservative' about what they think needs releases.

JoAnn and ShadySue gave you good advice re: Alamy - I'd just add that if you have the same work on Alamy and the micros, it might pull higher value sales away from Alamy. I went to a meeting at Alamy's Brooklyn headquarters some years back and a buyer who spoke to us said they searched on Fotolia if they found an RF image they liked on Alamy just in case it was available on Fotolia for less. Just FYI.
