Title: Fake money for Stock Shoots...where to find it?
Post by: LSD72 on May 18, 2009, 14:04
I am not a well off Yuri but on his Studio Tour he shows the Fake money (He could probably have enough for the real money shoots). So that has me wondering. Where do you get the Fake stuff? Maybe one sided templates of American and Euros that you can print out. I did try a Google search but only found one thing for American but "Fake" lettering over it would make it useless for the Shot.

Look for "Stage Money" or Prop Money and you'll do better.  ;D

Well, darn: For motion picture use only. Guess I can't use it for photography.  ;D

I just found that out. Prop Money results in more of what I am looking for. I think I got the American Dollars (thanks to the Dept. Of Treasury's website) covered but now looking for a Euro's Template.

Also wanting making sure to cover my A$$ with the Counterfeiting laws here in the States.

To Share what I found...

Disclaimer: Check Laws if you print out yourself. I will not be held resposible if you get busted for something...lol.

Interesting.  I just searched around and it doesn't look like there is anything very realistic looking.  The one that says "for motion picture use only" on it would not be very useful.  Don't want to have to clone that out.

Looks to me like the best solution is still to use real money, unless you are planning to destroy it, which of course nobody would want to do with actual cash.

Good greif...you can actually print these out from a government web site...That's shocking...although they have the watermark's "speciman" on them, I'm sure some one could get around that.....heh just photoshop it!! :o

Fine if you keep a desk drawer full of real money around to use as props and hope you don't lose any during the shoot.

Those are like food shots. Props consumed right after the shoot  :P

Printing out from Gov. website might be up to your printer.  Bank Note Detection might be in the Software or Firmware. Dont ask how I know ...but I do have at least 4oo Euros to test shots with.

Wow, i brought the 100 euro note from webshots site that was linked to above. took a sceenshot which included the menu bars, start bar and my full 2nd monitor so the note was less than half the image and hit paste in photoshop and got "this application does not support the editing of bank note images" for more information click this button which sens you to this page

http://www.rulesforuse.org/pub/index.php?lang=en (http://www.rulesforuse.org/pub/index.php?lang=en)

I'm Surprised it picked the note amongst the whole image.

Would it work if you were to scan half the note at a time then put the halves together?

I didn't have a problem with scanning as I just dl'ed the image from the web. The Printing part I never found an answer to though.

LOL!  No, of course I don't keep a drawer full of money!

We have these cool things called "ATM's" here where I live and we get the money out of there when we are getting our props together for a shoot ;)

Then we pay some to the models, spend it,  or put it back in the bank when we are done with it.

Of course this is with $20 bills so it's usually only a couple hundred $.  I'm nowhere near rich enough to feel comfortable us using a couple thousand in one hundred dollar bills...

I got CS4 to open the 20$ specimen by first flipping the printscreen in paint.
After flipping it back in CS4 and saving in PSD it reopens ok.

Take care of what you shoot!

I just got refused a whole batch of studio shoot of various bunch of banknotes isolated on white with the reason "+ Due to various international laws, we are not allowed to accept straight-on shots of paper money, as these could potentially be used for illegal counterfeiting purposes.".

Hope won't happen to you too...

thanks for posting this, I'm going to print out some copies and see if my bank will convert them to au$, I'm sure they wont notice that it half the image is dice or that its single sided :):)

sorry, what a joke.  I do notice that they dont remove the actual flat images from their collection though :)

I actually passed one of the $100s I printed to some dumb drunk guy at a bar. Got a $75 and a $25 bill as change.

there are many kinds of "props" money out there, typically available via theatrical props shops
those I've seen in Russia have relatively small print along one side saying it isn't real which isn't visible on most photos.

and on this picture it would be too visible so I photoshopped it out :
