sjlocke, microstock forces me to be disciplined, focused and hopefully improving.  I also belong to a local photo club which has a monthly challenge.  That also helps keep me focused.

jsnover, not yet, but good info to have.  Maybe in the future.

Worrying about micro makes you worry about those things as related to shooting for stock, not necessarily being a good photographer.

and if GK is interested in going into stock (whenever), any time is a good time to start learning about all the pros, cons and craps of the industry.

i think it is good to start microstock as you learn along.. like u have a motivation to create to make some sales.

I still call myself "new" after 8 months here. I shall do so until my my port is 2K+
(I'm not new to photography though, and it may be a hard curve for you to try both at once. microstock is way harsher than college, or any of the newspapers or magazines I've contributed to). And these forums are not like others where 80% seem to be amateurs talking nicely to each other.

I like your parallel approach to photography both as art and as stock: since they are two very different things, starting both from the beginning at the same time may be a good strategy actually.
