Getty Drops Placement Fees For RM Photographers Choice

?

yes that was announced a while back.

I've not seen this anywhere aside from your link.  The Getty site still states a $50 fee:
http://contributors.gettyimages.com/workwithus/collections.asp

Perhaps that is where the "guy with no experience" got his information.

Sean, maybe it is cause GI is so messed up they don't even know what they are doing. Honestly man, I was with them way before the micros and they stopped taking my work in the "Stone" collection (the Stocksy of yesterday) and told me that my work was more suited to "The Image Bank" and not good enough for "Stone" even though I had huge success in "Stone" before they were a "collection" that was a buyout. I asked to get into "The Image Bank" collection, then they told me they were not taking any new applications. They actually started returning images cause they were not "Stone" collection worthy even though they sold very well??? That is when I started with IS another wonderful GI buyout. Then I became diamond within two years and that is when GI wanted me to join them??? Join them again??? what??? After a few emails explaining to them they had no FU*KNG clue what they were doing, they put me into the house collection and now I am apparently good enough for all collections???

Getty Images is really a messed up company, but even though I think so, they still make me a very good living.

That's my rant.

I can only say that I looked into getting into GI at one point and all directions led me to the crazy contest. I have a good friend who has a long time house contract and he checked with his editor and who confirmed it. if the $50 fee has been dropped it is news to me since I looked into it. Compared to other agencies they make it an odd process and after emailing them about it I never heard back so forgot about it.

and yes sean, there is tons of complete misinformation about so many things on this MSG, it is mind boggling, and that is a fact, not an insult. ie: you don't have to pay to get an image onto GI RM. been that way for 18+ years (that is actually a bit of bu!!crap too as PC has not been around that long - maybe 12+ years and dropped down from the original $125 to $50), but hey i don't know what i am talking about ;)

The person who posted about the fee obviously only has experience with Photographer's Choice.  Instead of pointing out that there are other options, even if that person does not have access to them, you wholly discounted their statement, which was indeed, a fact, from their experience.

so a guy who says "it is hard to figure out" and has no experience submitting to Getty first hand is now factual in experience with no experience? Help me understand this please.
i first hand don't know the rules to this so called contest as it is a new 'game' to me, perhaps you can shed the light on the facts of the game once you have won the contest. you seem to know all the facts.

My link not his/hers. No connection.

I have not seen it anywhere else either. Hence my question mark. I wondered whether anyone else could add anything useful. Light as opposed to heat, as people used to say.
