Title: Illustration similars

So, I am reading through istock illustration guidelines and I totally understand similars and what is or isn't acceptable.... my confusion is about similars where the main character or image is on a white background.  Do they consider the character on a non-white (or illustrated background) and the character isolated on a white background similar?  I've seen a bit of both and I wasn't sure what I should submit... both types or just the fully illustrated version, you know, since the buyer can isolate and change it on their own.

I am just trying to build up a collection and don't want to waste time creating a bunch and then get them rejected for similars.

You would be okay submitting an isolated character with no background, and one with an illustrated background with other elements. Simply putting a color box or something behind it would definitely be considered a similar.

iStock is pretty lenient with alternate versions for illustrations. Other agencies like Dreamstime or Fotolia will most likely reject similar images in the same upload batch.
