Hello everyone, my name is Brandy and I am brand new to the microstock business. I've started portfolios on 123RF, BigStockPhoto, CanStockPhoto, Dreamstime, Fotolia, and Stockxpert.  I've already received 3 sales from Fotolia (1) and Dreamstime (2), but I'd like to think that I have just been extremely lucky. I'm getting ready to start my 3rd application on iStockPhoto and I'm currently waiting the 30 days to re-apply to Shutterstock. But it sounds like those two companies are pretty tough, so I'm okay with waiting a bit until my portfolio is better.

I've started a blog documenting my journey at untilitclicks.blogspot.com. I thought that other photographers would enjoy reading about my struggles (and few successes every now and then).

I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts and I look forward to getting better with my photography!

So hello everyone!

for some reason SS is harsh when it come to rejection, istock were abit lenient. i submitted my 10 and 2hour later... 2hour later? who ever review anything that fast? and get all rejected, when all the pic was approve on most major site... :/

Shutterstock reviewers are quite tough with your first 10 application pictures. But once you are in, they are significantly less picky. They just want to make sure that you are able to provide good material.

iStock reviewers are always very picky. Combined with the tedious uploading process and the ridiculous quota of 15 per week, uploading to iStock is not much fun. But accepted images do sell quite well.

Regards,
Oliver

Hi Oliver,
My last SS application got me 6/10 approved. So hopefully next month I'll be in!

As for IS, I was only approved a week or so ago and have already had 2 sales (with only 1 picture in my portfolio!) So I'm really excited about uploading more. It took me one failed uploading session to learn about how to keyword and also what to look for/edit when submitting to IS, so hopefully I'm more successful this week. I've had 3 more pictures approved, so hopefully I'm on the right track. I like their analysis system and the overall user-friendliness of their website. When I was doing design work, IS was always my #1 stock website to buy from. So it feels kind've neat to be active as a contributor now.

Welcome to the wonderful world of microstock....from looking at your blog and some of your portfolios it appears you know more about photography than most newbies. I'm sure you will have much success.

She won't. She's gone. I can smell forum spam from miles ahead.  ;)
