Title: IPTC data
Post by: hroe on February 10, 2009, 16:17
In your IPTC data, do you put more info than these 3:

- Description
- Keywords
- Title

Do you recommend to add other info?
I am completely new at this!

Thank you.

I also always fill fields : Author, Description Writer, Copyright Status, Notice and Info URL. Since these are the same for all the images, I have it saved as a template. I usually do it in Ps, but it is done in Adobe Bridge as well. I know these are not required but I like to see all of the fields filled :)

Yes, good idea, I was also wondering if the stocks let you insert your personal information without problem.... but I guess it's okay since you see the photographers sites.

Thank you!

I believe it is OK and the stock sites do not care about it. Some people, though, might feel against putting their personal data in the image.

Do the IPTC info read by ALL the stock agencies? That would be ideal!
I found some people having problems with istockphoto who doesn't read their metadata... hummm ???

I heard it happens occasionally with all the agencies. It happened a few times to me.

For istockphoto you might want to use DeepMeta software, it makes keywording and submission much less painful.

Thanks for the info. There are going to release a new version for Mac, right now I can't download it.

Does it mean that I have to 're-cut and copy' all the data into DeepMeta image per image?

When you do "Fetch all data" in DeepMeta, it downloads all the info about all your previously uploaded images so you should not need to do it again.

I also add my name, website, location of the image.  I don't think however sites let most of this available.  In FT, for instance, there is an URL but not mine, and I think it's only visibe to myself.  In DT, they show EXIF (camera) data only.  I don't think IS and StockXpert show any data either.

I wonder if downloaded images have this info saved?  I downloaded one of mine from StockXpert and everything is there in the original size - the resized versions are empty.

Regards,
Adelaide

Fotolia and YAY also extract the country. For editorial, landmarks and travel, they should extract more.

As to your question, yes I fill up all possible meta info though less than before. Not for the current stock sites but for sites to come. Flickr for instance extracts all location info: city, sublocation, province, country. I also add a geotag for all shots that aren't in studio. Date/time taken, although in the EXIF, I also put in the IPTC.

I do it for myself, since it's a way to sort photos.
