Title: Is 500px worth the time?
Post by: cindy_k on August 15, 2019, 08:09
I understand that they are now owned by Getty.
I already upload to iStock (Getty) , just got my first sale there.

I have uploaded some pictures for sale to 500px and they are a lot pickier on acceptance standards. Of 15 test photos I sent them they accepted 3.  All the other sites (Adobe, Shutterstock, Getty etc) have rejected maybe 2 of those 15.

Are they worth the effort?

My last sale with them was from July last year: $0.09
They used to be okay about 5 years ago (at this time files had to be exclusive) but since then it is getting down fast I'm keeping my portfolio but don't upload to them anymore...

Depends, do you live in New York City or rural Jakarta?  :)

Yes which means my earnings from 500px are zero because the number of images they have is also zero.

Anyone with a big sale recently?

Yesterday $31.50 from Getty. Overall to me 500px is absolutely worth.

In order to not perpetuate the misnomer, Jakarta is almost the same size as New York and it has a larger population. I'm not trying to start an argument, although inevitably I probably will, this is msg after all. Just saying there are so many more places way more rural and cheaper to live than the city of Jakarta.  :)

For example Colombia. That's why I do this even if I'm not pro, because with three dollars here I can have a nice lunch.
