Hello fellow microstock members
I am new to stock photography and have prioritated the most important stock sites from the list on the right side of this page.

Question: Is iStock exclusive. If yes, does this mean that if I upload to iStock then I'm not able to upload same images to other stock sites.

The reason I'm asking is that on the right hand side of this page it says that iStock is exclusive.

No, that column shows IS indy stats and IS excl stats. So you can be independent and submit your images to IS and other agencies. Or you can choose to be IS exclusive, but that means you are agency exclusive, and not image exclusive. Meaning all your images, including the rejected images cannot be submitted elsewhere. As exclusive you enjoy higher royalty rates and a better search placement.

No, iS is not exclusive, though contributors there can choose to be exclusive.
The Poll results show both iStock and iStock-exclusive figures.

You can choose to become exclusive one you have sold enough on istock.

I wouldn't choose to upload anything to IS personally.

No, iStock does not require you to be exclusive with them. They offer the option of exclusivity, with a set of benefits they don't offer other submitters. You can find many threads on this forum that argue the benefits and drawbacks of exclusivity there or anywhere else. In brief, it was once a good deal but is much less so today.

Just to be clear, I am independent and have never considered exclusivity. For me it did not make sense. You will have to decide for yourself.

If you are IS exclusive, you cannot submit RF anywhere else.

This question is raised by a letter published at the Chicago Sun-Times Tuesday in which President Barack Obama thanked a concerned citizen for giving him advice on stopping smoking.

The only problem is Obama wrote "advise" not advice."

Where "special" = Yuri Arcurs, Rubberball, Blend Images, Dorling Kindersley, Clerkenwell Images, Ingram, CSA Images, etc. etc. If Getty keeps going adding these "special" exclusives, they'll soon be the majority in terms of "exclusive" images. And regarding the crack about W (former President George W. Bush), both 41 and 43 had terrible trouble with the English language, not just spelling, and mangled it regularly and spectacularly (See just two clips of him inventing the word "subliminable" here and here). President Obama is an extremely articulate person, misspelling or no misspelling.

Getty/IS.......... is rowing in all the people that matters. Special deals ( think Yuri is the only one)?? far from it. They have the power to clinch just about anybody and they have been doing just that since 1997.

As long as he has his teleprompter. Without it he is a bumbling fool.
