Title: Microphone help - background noise - Canon 5D MarkII

Hi there,

I'm seeking help in choosing a mic to use with my Canon 5D MarkII after my previous effort sounded horrible.

To avoid background noise and to adapt to the 'tinny' surroundings, is it best to get a lavalier mic or shotgun mic to go atop the camera?

I'm looking to hire. Recommended models would be a great help.

Apologies if I've missed another thread. I did look around but couldn't find exactly what I was after.

In that condition you should use a boom microphone.
The cheapest, with enough quality is the Rode NTG2. Take care to boom it with the right direction and out of the frame. If you don't mind to see the lavalier, that is for sure the best sound for the voice. Anyway, try to take well care with audio in the same way you do with image. I mean if you are in a very soundy place tha audio will be noisy.

lucagavagna has got it spot on. One other thing to add is that the closer the mic is to the mouth of the person speaking, the less of the ambient (surrounding) noise you'll record.

Nice accent.
External microphone, boom as suggested or one to clip on his shirt. Even wireless.
