Title: Microstock Millionaire EBook
Post by: palirao on March 19, 2013, 05:09
Hi

I've been shooting stock for 3 years now full time, and have just put together an ebook for people new to stock. It's all free and contains all the things that I wish I had have known when I started, but have had to learn through trial and error and experience. There  is no "hidden secrets" but hopefully you will find it very useful.

I intend to produce more videos, guides etc - all for free, to help the stock community. Please contact me and let me know if there is anything you would like to know about.

My portfolio is here:

www.istockphoto.com/peepo (http://www.istockphoto.com/peepo)

Thanks

love your port!
are those oldies your parents?

wish mine were that genetically blessed! I'm trying to find some willing oldies as the boomers are going to be the biggest money spending group in the next 10 years (so say the demographers)

I especially like the cricket one, very good.

Do you have a link to the ebook?

Have you made a million dollars off stock or is that a title that gets people interested?

Nice compositing and lighting work, definitely.  The crowd and signage elements leave a bit to be desired in some places.

Why do you need the email address?

Just downloaded your book. It is well written and addresses the subject correctly. If you have some insights how you edit your work post shoot, that would be great to read.

But is it for us 'seasoned microstockers' or is it for beginners?  I'm rather protective of my email address, so I won't submit it to a stranger for something that may be of no value to me.

Just downloaded it and read it. There's a couple of good tips about how to work out where demand is.
It's for beginners really, if you have a back up email for this sort of thing then worth a quick scan I guess. I used an email I only use for signing up to stuff like this (potential spam sources!). It would be great to have a privacy policy spelled out  (whether you plan to sell the addresses and so on)

Thanks Microbius.  That's helpful.  I think I have several old 'spare' email addresses out there somewhere.  They're so old that I expect they're all defunct by now.  I think I'll pass on this one.  I find the 'get rich quick' verbiage off-putting, and the lack of info regarding the email address requirement (and future usage, as you say) just puts me off even more.

.... I find the 'get rich quick' verbiage off-putting, .....
Yeah there as bit of that in the book as well. It always puts me off too, but I guess a large part of the ebook market loves that stuff or so many authors wouldn't use it.

it's all about data harvesting these days.  :(

I suppose so.  If feels strange though to be given the 'hard sell' to get on a bandwagon I'm already on. ;)

@ Cathy.  Yes indeed.  Sadly so.  I am wearing my harvest-proof vest today though.

@ rckirk.  Yes, that concerns me too.

Thanks for your comments guys and for taking the time to download and read the book. First off, Im a real microstocker and have been shooting full time for the last 3 years and yes ALL the claims that I have made are absolutely true. Im not trying to scam anyone or get their credit card details, although feel free to send me money :-)

The reason for the email address is in absolutely honesty, yes I am trying to build an email list, so that I can provide and offer more photography and microstock related content, much of it for FREE. ALL related to microstock and photography and also stuff that will be useful and helpful to others. If you don't want/need this, then feel free to put in a fake email, absolutely no problem at all.

But, why would I do that, what's in it for me? I remember when I started out and those times I emailed established photographers and I never got any help or advice from people that already made it. Also photographers tend to closely guard their "secrets" and not be that collaborative, so Id like to do a little bit to change that.

Please do let me know what you'd like to know more about and to those that did put a valid email address in, Id be more than happy to share anything to do with microstock, photoshop, techniques - just let me know what you would like!

@rckirk - Ill possibly produce some more stuff that is not free, but if you don't want this, please do not buy! Don't take what I say at face value, please test it yourself. Everything free will be totally self contained and you are very welcome to take it and use it to help you and your photography grow. I wish you all the best

when I click on the link all I get a a blank screen- thus I have no future!  Reminds me of a boss years ago that when I asked him what my future was in the company, he told me, "Close your eyes and tell me what you see". I told him, "Nothing".  He smiled at me and walked away... :-\

Im open to suggestions/comments - please just let me know if you think the style is off-putting, and let me know if there is anything else you want to know about - Im more than happy to put together a video/podcast/ebook on topics that are of interest

I find the whole ebook as nothing but a marketing ploy to sell future ebooks.

And after getting my first spam from this site this morning I am sure of this fact

Yes, I just got my first spam email from Clickbank as well as a result of looking at the book - which is massively overoptimistic in what most people can achieve, in my humble view.

Steve

PS - being open and honest, I'm also the author of a book about "getting started in stock", so please disregard my somewhat negative comment if you would like.

In the UK, isn't it illegal to harvest email address for future marketing purposes without asking people to opt-in?  There's no ticky-box that says I agree to receive emails in the future, or even a notification to say that's why I'm handing over an email address.

The site looks like the millions of other get rich quick scheme sites.  I think you should scrap it and make something that looks more professional that will make people think about paying you for professional advice.  But I do wonder why you have the need to do this at all?  Have earnings become that bad with istock?  Isn't it more fun to produce your own images than tell other people how to do it so that they can become your competitors and take away some of your earnings?

Perhaps you think that the get rich quick website will attract the kind of person that will part with their money but will soon realise its not easy to make good money and will give up?  That might make sense.

Just red your eBook. It's easy to read and there are some ideas there that can be useful for someone starting out in the microstock industry. There are some typos and not so good phrasing here and there that can be easily fixed but what I think can really be improved is the design of the eBook itself. You have a great portfolio. Why don't you use some of your images to give some examples of what you are trying to say and to make the ebook more appealing?

sure he have, 280k downloads are easily 1 M for an exclusive, honestly I don't see the point of creating this website, the ebooks or other, aren't you a very successful photographer, why don't you continue that?

Hi guys

Many thanks for the replies

@ruigsantos - thanks. I did consider whether to add in images, but deliberately just put a link to my portfolio rather than use images, so people would go and look. I hear you though, It may be stronger with images in there.

@goober - yes, no BS. If I didn't I would not feel like I had anything new to offer in an ebook/training

@luissantos84 - The simple answer is that if I can help other photographers that Im more than willing to share via training. Ive got the kind of mind that needs to do lots of things :-)

@luissantos84 - If you do everything in that ebook (and also learn my compositing techniques :-) ), you could have the SAME income

I believe the constant cut in royalties are enough to shrink our income, no need to train more mates ;D

IMHO getting how-to-succed-in-microstock advice from an iS exclusive is like requesting cruise ship recommendations from a passenger on the Titanic.  ::)

Thanks! Good to know this. I hear what you are saying, and believe it or not, was the opposite of what I intended! I wanted to it motivate people and get them interested but definitely make it sound like it's a make $million in 2 minutes with no effort.

Apologies on the spam - that was me pressing the wrong button by mistake. It wasn't even a formatted email!!

Thanks a lot for these comments, Im going to have a redesign/rethink....as someone said once...Ill be back!

I remember a few years ago coming across a youtube channel where some guy was promoting making a living via istock. His first piece of advice was to look at what images have sold best and copy them. I don't  even think he was a contributor but he was telling others to sign up and copy other artists. He also speculated on what the top photographers were making all so that he could have a youtube video with high traffic.
