Sean, per my estimation take your high PIPY and move the decimal point once spot left for today's numbers. Rough guess on my part but, yes, 1/10th of what it was.

As for Alamy, my port there is a much different set of content. All editorial (not commercial) with a lot of local travel and tourism (and clipped cars no longer at iS - but no clipping paths carried through). I figure editorial is 1/10th the value of commercial in these stock sites.

I haven't used microstocks yet. Now I try to earn a little money (say 500/month), as soon as possible.
Pick one site and go exclusive or submit to a few sites? which is a better stratage?
Mainly micro photos and some illustrations.

After all of the discussions above we can see that your portfolio returns could be very different than comparative people here. But to make a very wild guess using rule of thumb numbers, $500/month USD is $6000/year. At $1 PIPY you need 6000 good images in a selling portfolio.

Photography is my cash positive hobby at this time. I have a day job that keeps me alive. I also shoot many jobs and other things that are not stock worthy since getting serious about stock back about 2002. I have worked hard at stock through my early years but have not worked as hard after "hitting the wall" where hard work is met with declining sales income. My stock portfolios total about 6700 unique images today (2017).

I remember $1 an image a year posted re Alamy...didn't believe that one for an average photographer either!

Seems it could be 10c per image per year on Alamy:

I think there are some people on Alamy that seem to upload their SD cards and keyword them all the same, so they have huge numbers of images, but probably not a lot of sales per image.

back when I first heard of stock the number for traditional stock was 1$ per image per year and microstockers were talking $1 per image per month. I am pretty sure those per image per month numbers have dropped drastically. I know mine have.

In general I think that vector artists have a higher return per image.

My average in 2017 is $2.25 per image per year right now at Shutterstock only. But I have a small portfolio and don't upload a ton of crap or 10 slightly different angles of a branch.  ;)

You'll make more money perfecting one image for an hour or two in Photoshop than uploading 100 straight from the memory card.
