Agreed, that would work as well, but I like the look of the month names - I must be strange like that!
On the folders for each day - do you take so many images that a daily folder is worthwhile. I know in Lightroom that you can look at the folder above the one holding the images, but I would find it more difficult to remember which images I had FTP'd to Lightburner if I had to look in each day folder.
I need to update my blog, because I forgot to mention that I also keep a collection of that I think are my "best" images from the shoot or trip as at some stage I am thinking of going to art festivals and trying to sell some prints. I mainly take travel and landscapes and so some of them are attractive enough to sell, and so my collections also help me remember the "best" shots. I particularly like this image of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC - it looks good as a large print:
