The last three weeks or so I have had nearly all my submissions refused at DT yet strange to say SS accepted many of them . DT must be losing money ? The reasons are spurious - focus, composition, etc etc whem in past the same type of pics were accepted. I am glad I got on to SS as I am thinking of foregoing my exclusivity on DT. What does everyone think as I am a newbie.Thanks.

They rejected what has turned out to be my best seller. Maye resubmit (what do you think?).

it all depends on what said image looks like and why they rejected it.

Read the grounds of the rejection. If they point out issues subject to be fixed, then resubmit. In some cases though, it may not be eligible for resubmission.

I have made a woodoo doll out of straw.
When I get rejections I take a needle and plank it into the doll.
Then it goes away. The anger and emotions, blood, sweat and tears and all that.
Smart system, the needles can be used many times.

Dan, with all due respect, your best seller has only sold a few times, from what I read from you. I know your port on CanStockPhoto and FT and you need to improve your quality a lot. I have tried to help you before, but you ignored it.
Your overall composition in general is not good. Your lighting is not good either. You frame and crop too tight. You cut of parts of your subject and your horizons are mostly crooked. And most your images look like snapshots.
I honestly suggest you start your application at Shutterstock and work with the guys in their critique forum. They will help you to get accepted, but you need to put in a lot of work and patience. You will learn from pros and you will improve your image quality significantly. Once you get accepted into SS, you have the skill set to shoot a proper stock photo.

I will be honest. DT seems to have eased up on their similars....being more realistic on similars, not using keyword matching to auto reject, etc. Maybe I've gotten lucky lately, but the next few months will tell.
Dan, I have many good selling images on certain sites that weren't accepted on other micros. It's not just limited to DT. I have images that sell very well on DT, SS but Istock won't take them. Each site has their likes and dislikes and they generally direct their inspectors to place less emphasis on certain image types. SS for example does not like dark, moody, eerie images, and this has been a topic on their forums a couple of times. I have a pretty well selling image like this but not on SS. I've submitted it 5 times and all 5 times they reject it for lighting.
DD is no different. Some images they like and others they just feel dont fit the needs of their clientele.
Go figure. It's a numbers game. Let it go unless you really believe it is a winner.

I am very puzzled as to why DT states that my abstract designs are rejected for poor lens quality, etc, when they are NOT photographs.I have pointed this out to them. FUnny though SS can't get enough of them!!

Didn't you get those abstract designs refused "even for out of focus" as well on SS? :)

I've never heard of that (poor lens quality) as a rejection reason.

Poncke - i'm disappointed you think i ignored you - i most certainly did not. Just because i don't answer every post i still try to take your advice.

One image that I put up to DT years ago was borderline focus. Dt accepted it and Istock refused it. It went on sell hundreds of times at DT and is one of my best sellers there. You just have to accept that if an image is not perfect it can go either way with the agencies, some will accept it and some won't. Just try and learn from your refusals and improve the quality until the day comes that virtually all images are accepted everywhere.

If you submit exclusively to DT, your exclusive images cannot be offered elsewhere. Thats a breach of contract and you could be kicked out of DT. Maybe even worse.
-
I do not offer my exclusive images anywhere else but use different ones, Is that all right?

Its alright for exclusive images, not if you are exclusive contributor
-
I'm still confused. You are saying files are exclusive on DT but SS is accepting them. Then you said the pictures that aren't photos are being refused on DT but accepted on SS. Then later you wrote that SS refused some that DT refused?
Are you an exclusive or not? And if photo exclusive how do the same photos get onto both DT and SS?
You really lost me?

Agreed. Silly dogmatists. They rejected ALL my geometric patterns for the past few months. Whatever. I'm going into year three of the microstock world and am finding that reviewing images is 75% subjective hocus pocus and 25% technical (real: Open paths, fringing, logos, etc).

I was invited to (audit?) refusals and report any that I thought are unwarranted at a special link. I like the offer, but I no longer upload similars and they have a pretty reasonable acceptance other than that. The only rejection at the I have is a trademark (a red cross on a 4 year old's dance costume) which is accurate. I don't really upload much to be useful in their survey, but appreciate that they are doing something on our behalf.

Agree. As long as we can reach wider market, earn more, why not? Unless we are selling exclusive images. :D
