Hi Stock Folks,

I have some questions pertaining to sales on the stock companies-

How is that I have only 12 photos on Shutterstock yet I have sold more photos from them that on all the rest combined? For example, - see below

Company Portfolio Sales

Shutterstock 12 14

Dreamstime 70 7

CanStock 138 0

Fotolia 110 1

Veer 74 1

Bigstock 99 2

Deposit 60 1

Are Shutterstock and iStock so much better in marketing than all the rest of the companies? Being new to the game should I concentrate on only Shutterstock and Dreamstime? I am surprised that my sales are so weak with Fotolia since I've heard only good things about them?

Any thoughts?

Oh dear. 70 shots in your port, man you need 10 times that amout to even be able to judge anything at all and thats just for starters.

SS buyers will download anything new. That's the fun of a subscription. Of course, for the privilege of selling more, you get paid less.

So non-exclusive iStock contributors get paid more for subscription downloads?

No, they get paid less (99% of the time) than PAYG downloads.

Lady luck on my Shutterstock downloads- that explains why I am getting sales so much higher than the rest. So to be fair I really need to have around 1,000 in each of the companies which I can understand being a statistician myself. Just seems so weird that 12 photos would generate 15 downloads in 15 days compared to the rest.

The thing is with ss unless they are outstanding images they will stop selling after the first weeks or two whereas on other sites the images will often go on to make more money.

Yes, contrary to popular belief Shutterstock provides plenty of income from older, excellent images. Most of my best sellers month-in and month-out were uploaded in March 2008 or prior.

Well done at Dreamstime. Sometimes it seems like new images sit unnoticed for a while, and then take off later. iStockphoto can be that way too. Good sales early at DT and iS usually lead to good sales later.
