Hi Guys,

I got a question... I'm hoping it's a simple question, but it certainly has me stumped!  ???

I have photos where I used Irfanview to IPTC all the keywords, titles and descriptions.... but I am running into a problem when it comes sorting these image that are in several folders on my hard drive.

How does one sort photos by the IPTC Title in Windows 7?  If I sort my photos by Window 7's version of "Title", Windows 7 actually displays the IPTC Description which is not what I want.

BTW... when I upload these files to all the various microstock sites I work with, they display the correct title info.... so I am not sure what or if Windows 7 has a folder details category that is the equivalent to the IPTC title.

Can you guys help me out here?

Well this is interesting - I just tried this and in my case, it's working.  I selected 'details' view in a folder of photos, right-clicked the column headings, and added the "Title" column.  It shows the IPTC title, not the description. and I can sort on that column by clicking the header.

I am wondering why we'd get different results since in both cases, the IPTC title is clearly correct in the files because the stock sites pick it up as expected.

Stockastic,

What software are you using to IPTC your photos?  I used Irfanview for IPTCing my photos and I tried duplicating what you did but it doesn't work for me... only the description is showing.

IPTC Title: Sailboat
IPTC Description: A yacht sailing in the Caribbean
IPTC Keywords: sail, sailing, boat, boating, blah, blah, blah.....

Sorting By Title In Windows (on Cricket's computer): A yacht sailing in the Caribbean

I read somewhere that Windows 7 doesn't fully support IPTC.  I wonder if this is the issue:

http://it.knightnet.org.uk/2009/02/windows-7-supports-iptc-in-jpeg-picture-files-not-quite-adobe-xmp-actually.html

Anyway... I went through and tried all the other sorting criteria... nothing seems to work... oh well... I guess I will just have to live with it or use another tagging program in the future... which I am hesitant to do, since my method works well for me.. except in this particular instance.

I've used IrfanView but mostly I use Nikon Capture NX 2.

In my experience Microsoft never gets this sort of thing quite right.  All their efforts at photo and imaging tools haven't added up to much, they don't follow through and nail the details.
