Title: Uploading photos on microstock agencies / all at once or every few days?
Post by: Dumc on March 20, 2015, 07:04
Hi.

I was always wondering what is better, to upload all photos at once or upload them every few days?

For example, if I have 100 photos, is it better to upload them all in the same day, or upload 20 of them every few days to stay noticed in the "new files" section.

I would prefer to upload all of them at once and just "get over with", but I have this feeling, that if I do that, I will be pushed into oblivion in the "new files" section.

What do you think?

Depends.

If all similar of same subject then spread them out, if a variety of shots then why not all at once?

I upload a variety of subjects in batches of around 50-75 each week.

I upload in smaller batches because there is so much variability in the reviewers (for me), especially at Shutterstock. Sometimes it seems I just get slammed for a possibly but unlikely reason. If I upload in smaller batches, getting really bad reviews doesn't wipe out a whole slew of photos I could upload later.

Well, I agree with both of you. I think it's better to upload smaller batches to SS.

If some of my images are rejected, and I think they're good (for example that I had a similar image accepted and is a little bit worse quality), then I wait a week and upload them 1 by 1 with next batches. And bam, now they are good.

But it doesn't work all the time though.

This is the correct advice in my opinion. A shoot of, say, the ocean that nets you 50 good images should be spilt up over time.  Especially if you get a reviewer who does not like them they all get canned. But if you have a variety, say, some studio, some ocean, some composites, etc, I do them all at once. Each site has its own quirks.

I agree.
But with the vectors I see less problems (you will very rarely get a rejection with vectors once you know how to prepare the files correctly) and I upload all together.

agreed, but be careful -- uploading the same images without changes can cause problems, even if you think the initial review was bogus -- I always try to make some changes, usually tweaking the lighting, before resubmitting
