Title: women in bikini without model release
Post by: atramos on September 23, 2011, 18:18
Hi all. I have a photo of some women at the beach, taken at my last vacation overseas. Do these have any value as stock photo? Do I need a model release? How about for Editorial Use Only? Thanks

No, those are useless as stock photos.  Enjoy your stalking.

That you don't know the name of the person  isn't particularly relevant, but if you take a look at the enormous amount of photos of women on  beaches in bikinis with releases which are available with releases you'll see what you're up against. You'd have to ask yourself why someone would buy your photos without releases when they have such a huge choice of photos which have releases.

You would have better chances with woman without bikini and with model release.
But seriously, I can`t believe you are posting this....and...what "foreign country"? Foreign of what country? And don`t you have to respect People even if they live in "foreign" countries? Are you working for istock since you show such a lack of moral competence?

All pics were taken in public venues - no private resorts etc. So, no property release needed.
You clearly know nothing, which of course applies to everyone at some time.
But you need to get educated before even thinking of stock.
Property releases could be e.g. for a designer bikini, designer or branded sunglasses, bottle of Coke, Ambre Solaire suncream etc etc etc.

Cover well your wife, daughters and sisters everyone, this guy may be on a beach near you...

Thank you. From all the responses this was the most helpful and "eye-opening".

While in Spain a few years ago I have pic of my wife in the foreground and two naked (attractive) ladies in the background. Funny how I had my camera set to F18 - purely accidental of course...

I think my camera would have mis-focused in the same situation. "Sorry honey for the blurry pics, some weird back-focus issue!"

Just so that your wife wouldn't be THAT out of focus huh?  ::)

LOL! I was 19 at the time thus had more passion in many areas besides my photo taking! My wife did see the print outs and toss that one in the trash- I told her I needed notice as my nose grew longer...

Okay, being serious- why do you think you want to do stock photography? I would read up on the stock world via books and internet to see if you really want to do this type of stuff before you dive in the MS world...

why do you think you want to do stock photography?

Good question. I'm interested in stock photography mostly because it sounds like I could get paid for something I already do for free. I take lots of pictures already, I have expensive gear that I know how to use well, and I've been doing it for fun for 15 years. Many of my photos are stock-type images, especially editorial ones, without even trying it.

How about you? You're in the newbie forum... why do you think you want to do stock photography?
