Look for Lost Lake on Mt. Hood.  Most beautiful place I have ever been.  You have to get a sunset there, with Mt. Hood reflected in the lake.

Enjoy.

Depends on what you want to shoot, but there is A LOT of nature up here.

Some places I highly suggest
1. Redwood National Park in CA
2. Oregon Dunes National Monument
3. Crater Lake National Park
4. Cape Perpetua area near Yachats
5. Cannon Beach
6. Portland Rose and Japanese Gardens

Other than that there's a lot of other good opportunities.  Portland is an interesting city with unique architecture and a certain 'personality'

I live in OR so that's what I Know the most about but as far as Washington goes I highly recomend the Olympic Peninsula or North Cascades National Park.

Have a good trip, It's beautiful up here!  Look forward to seeing some pictures.

Heading out to my home turf are you.

There is so much to do and see out here. You might want to check out Port Townsend, The Dungeness Spit area, Lake Crescent, The Hoh Rainforest. There are lots of other great places to check out too. Dont forget your rain gear.

My personal suggestions:

Mount Saint Helens (WA)
Pike Place Market (Seattle)
There's Fort Vancouver - but that's about it for here in Vancouver, WA.
Tillamook Cheese Factory (Oregon Coast - be sure and grab some cheese curds)
Devils Punch Bowl (Oregon Coast south of the Tillamook Cheese factory)
Multnomah Falls (Oregon - Columbia Gorge)
OMSI - (Portland, OR)

Thats all I can think of without more coffee.

my favorite OR beaches are the southern ones - bandon, cape arago, et al up tp coosd bay.  the rest of the coast is more than worthwhile too.  eastern or - john day river & fossil canyons and desert, tumalo falls near bend, crater lake

for WA, mt st helens, rainier, n cascades highway [yu can't really see much of the park w/o backpacking, though cascade pass trail, is crowded but a good scenic dayhike.

in seattle, the hiram chit locks have salmon climbing the fish ladders, with  the fremont troll nearby.  the asian art museum in volunterr park also has great views of the city - take the ferry as a walkon for the best views of the seattle waterfront & skyline

I am going to drive along Oregon Coast. I am skipping everything in California (been there). I also visited Crater Lake many times. I was in both parks in Washington. This time might have time only for Olympic.

I was in Olympic area once. I want to revisit Lake Crescent and rainforest for sure. I am not sure how I got there last time so Port Townsend and Dungeness Spit may be new things.

Never been in northern Oregon so I am adding these things to my list.

I am going along the coast in Oregon so I should see most of these things. I was in Seattle and my friend guided me that time so I we revisit many places. Cascades are too far notrh for this trip. I have been in Rainier and St Helens and I am planing to revisit now.

If you are going up the Oregon Coast, when driving through Florence you should get out and run around on the famous Sand Dunes, then enjoy a cup of Clam Chowder at Mo's.

Driving North, the most famous beach in Oregon is Cannon Beach.  If you need a place to stay, this is the town to do it.  Most hotel's are pricey, but well worth it.  A MUST SEE is Ecola Park above Cannon Beach.  If you only go to one place on the Oregon Coast, this has to be the spot!  Undoubtedly the most beautiful view.  There is a really great trail that takes you down to a very secluded beach.  It's not too strenuous but with a one year old, it may be tough.  You can bring a picnic and just eat at the top without hiking though.

Washington Beaches aren't nearly as nice.  Long Beach is OK but if you are driving through Washington, you should hit Seattle.  The Orca Whales should still be around, you can catch a ferry out to the San Juans and hop on a whale watching boat for a good time.  I like to use the Western Prince with Captain Ivan... http://www.orcawhalewatch.com/ (http://www.orcawhalewatch.com/)  In addition to the Killer Whales, you'll see Stellar Sea Lions (the massive 2 ton guys), tons of Bald Eagles, Dolphins and more.  Very beautiful.

Have a great trip!

as a seattleite - i have to agree - OR's beaches are the best - the WA beaches in the olympics are close, but most of the WA coast is just lng stretches of sand -- none of the cliffs and haystacks of OR.

on the OR coast, stop for  the Newport Aquarium   it's excellent [as is the Rogue brewery also in Newport].  if you make it to central OR, the High Desert museum in Bend is also highly recommended [along with Deschutes brewery]  - reat photo ops at both museums

mo's is just ok - the chowder now is thick & pasty, and it's usually crowded and service is mediocre.  there's an excellent small restaurant farther along Bay street, towards the bridge - oceanside near the apollo]  it's called 866 or something similar -- it's just the address. has views out to the bay.  hangtown fry for breakfast is excellent [oyster omlette] and we've not been disappointed for dinner there either.   at the other end of twn, there's also a good seafood restaurant on the landward side of bay street, past the wax museum -- lots of glass &  chrome & fresh seafood

LOL, nothing is wrong with the beaches in WA.  I live in Seattle but grew up in Oregon.  If you were not from the Northwest and visited a Washington beach I think you would be awestruck by the beauty.  However, in my humble opinion they pale in comparison to the beaches in Oregon.  There is more to the landscape, the towns are nicer with more to do and better restaurants in OR.

My family and I do rent a nice little house on the beach in Ocean Shores.  That is a nice beach now that I think about it with some cool little getaways.

Either state, you are in good shape.  The thing I love about our beaches is that they are generally very secluded with few people compared to the more traditional "tropical" beaches of CA and Hawaii.  Could be because of the 100 mile an hour windgusts and the freezing cold weather year round, but that's a small price to pay :)

Oh, and I 2nd the recommendation for the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Rogue Brewery in Newport.  I haven't been in years but it was very special the last time we went.

Just North in a town called Depot Bay is (or was..don't know if it's still there or not) a restaurant called Tidal Raves that was awesome too!  Beautiful views and great food and (for a coastal town) reasonable prices.  Last time I was there, whales were breaching right out in front....awesome stuff.
