I started to read it, got the gist, and of course my attention span plagued me too much to get to the end.
Start a Symbiostock site, love life. Inspiration will hit you in the head like a slice of lemon wrapped around a large, gold, brick.

Here is what would happen if I did the above- Jack would pound me like a fence post in front of all my friends and I probably get Beth pregnant on my first kiss! Thus I am glad I didn't do either one ;D

Zack is the man. I'm not even a photographer but I follow the guy for a few years now and have enjoyed his various blog posts, videos, etc. His Transform video was so awesome. He has this knack for openly talking about the down side of being an artist but making it seem possible to overcome. It's negativity with a positive twist. Or vice versa, I don't know. It's just good.

nice article but talent doesn't grow on trees, no matter if the guy now will burn his Xbox and work 24x7 on shooting bands.
americans love these inspirational things, the slogans like "man up!" or "the I CAN attitude".
well, it may work for some but not for all .. and he's right suggesting to focus only on one of two things, too many try to do everything from landscape to fashion to lifestyle shots but you better stick to what you're better at.
as for the "plenty of suckers having success", yes especially in fine-art photography you'll be amazed why what kind of junk is being sold and being awarded, but i noticed they all specialize in their field, b/w or dreamy landscapes or portraits or whatever, none of them try to be "complete", not at all, and maybe actually because of technical limitations, because they can't do anything else but the one single thing they do good is pretty good.

I quit my day job about 8 years ago with no real firm plan of what I was going to do. There have definitely been some bumps in the road and some absolute failures, but I've never regretted it. And, I've grown so much since I did it.
