I got this from a friend at Facebook.

Seems kid of odd as what good would my pictures of birds and trees be to these people? I did get four strange requests from the same person to like to the same photo, four times, with odd multi-part names. Yeah I know where the ignore button is.

Race, what does it mean, the alert my friend sent is false? I don't think she would do that on purpose, is that spreading in Facebook? I didn't see a way of forwarding it there.

I don't think most people, especially friends, send these out, because they don't believe them.

It's the same as the one that says, protest group, join... Facebook is going to start charging. (not true) And then one person sends it to 20 people and some of those people send it to 40 more,some send to all, and it gets sent all over. But they didn't take the time to search for "Facebook Pay Hoax" and find out, it's not true.

Yes, you have a way to send it to her, unless she doesn't have the Internet. Copy the link and send it to her in a message, and ask her to read what Snopes says.

Although I do have some friends who manage to send these out, over and over. In two months they will find another one and send it to everyone in their address book. Normally I just hit the delete key. Once I answered to all saying it was a hoax and I got an angry email saying that I was wasting bandwidth by pointing it out. Just can't win.

If someone writes a message and it says in it... "Send this to everyone you know" that's the first warning sign.

Hoax or not, I think people need to be aware of the information that they are putting on Facebook and that its really not private, nor does the company have any interest in privacy.

Their business model is to use contextual marketing to make money: "Reach your exact audience and connect real customers to your business."

They know who the exact audience is for products because you give them all your personal information, know who all your friends are and where you're logging in from each time. Many probably wouldn't be aware that you'll get different advertising when you log in from a different location... yes facebook is watching you!

Despite all their privacy settings, there are some things you can't make private:
ie.
- your real name
- your friends lists
- any fan pages you're a member of

On the IP side, its probably worth noting the terms of the site: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook ("IP License").

When I received that warning on facebook the first thing I did was do a search for that group only to find that it doesn't exist so thought it was a bit pointless for me to post about a non-existent group.
