I'm a huge Top Gear fan, but since the new season is postponed because of X-factor or as Jeremy Clarkson put it:"Would love to be back in the Autumn but Sunday nights then will be full of fat people singing", I found a great new series to watch. And idiot abroad. Full of typical English humor, which I absolutely love, that's also the main reason I'm a fan of Top Gear. Sure the production is top drawer, the presenters as well, especially Jeremy, but that intelligent, poky humour is the main reason. And because they're a bit mad. And so is Karl Pilkington, the presenter of An idiot abroad. Melancholic, whiny bloke with great sense of humour. Take a look at this clip:

He was summing the day up after that, saying something like: I'd rather eat some more cock and bollocks than go back to that museum (he ran out on his tourist guide from a museum). He got me really laughing hard on many occasions. Just the best type of humour there is.

Are there any other shows of this sort out there? It doesn't really matter what they're about as long as their full of that kind of humour.

The Ricky Gervais Show includes all three characters of "An Idiot Abroad" but is done as a cartoon and just the voices.

I couldn't really get into it, initially but then took as shine to "An Idiot Abroad". So maybe I'm "ready" now...?

I love Peep show and that Mitchell and Webb look, they're hilarious, I almost pissed my pants a few times . Black books and IT crowd are also very good, especially the former. I liked Little Britain, but they really tend to repeat themselves to much. I didn't like Fawlty towers, since it's way too old, and I don't like Monty python type of humor, it's just stupid and not funny at all (It may not be that kind of humor, I might have mistaken it because of John Cleese) and Mighty Bush didn't really cut it for me either. I haven't watched the rest. Based on what I've told you, which ones would you recommend to me?

Tough to say, each show is different and it depends on what humor you can take.

Fawlty Towers, Father Ted, Keeping up Appearances, Mrs. Browns Boys are more old school, traditional family entertainment.

Just have a peak on youtube and see if it rubs you the right way.

Some shows require a couple of episodes to get comfortable.

I did try watching Bottom, but I've stopped after the first ep. I can't remember why, since I didn't keep on watching most British tv shows (which is normal, yet there's still more good shows coming from the UK than anywhere else, when it comes to comedy of course), it could have just been as you said, hit and miss, I guess the 1st ep was a miss, at least for me. I'd have thought 'Bottom' would be right up your alley, Wut.   Not my cup of  tea, but given some of the things you like, I'd have thought that one would appeal to you. 

Before 'Bottom' Ade Edmonson and Rick Mayall were in 'The Young Ones', which was pretty funny.  You could look that up.  It's hard to say how well these things hold up to a new audience in these times.  As with Fawlty Towers, some shows may appeal more to those of us who saw them originally during the era they were created... who remember those times and still have a soft spot for them.

From click_click's list, I'm a fan of Father Ted, The IT Crowd and I heartily recommend Black Books.  Dylan Moran's just great.  One of those people I wish I knew in person.

From "Bottom" to the movie "Guesthouse Paradiso" 

I really liked the TV series of Bottom, but I got the live version, and it didn't do it for me at all. Different somehow. I'd agree about "Hotel Paradiso" Top notch silliness!

I also loved Little Britain, and nobody mentioned Absolutely Fabulous yet!

Two of my favorites are Dr. Who (my daughter got me into it, and now I'm addicted!), and Graham Norton.  In fact, I think Graham Norton is the cleverest talk show host on the planet.  Really knows how to disarm his guests and get them relaxed, plus he's very quick witted.

I also like all those mushy period drama mini-series.  Anything by Dickens or Austen. 

Oh yes!  Life on Mars was a brilliant drama.  Excellent choice
