President Elected posted this info today
President-elect Trump pinned blame for the "apocalyptic" wildfires tearing through Los Angeles County on California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom.
"Governor Gavin Newscum refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snow melt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way," Trump posted on Truth Social late Wednesday morning.
"He wanted to protect an essentially worthless fish called a smelt, by giving it less water (it didn’t work!), but didn’t care about the people of California. Now the ultimate price is being paid. I will demand that this incompetent governor allow beautiful, clean, fresh water to FLOW INTO CALIFORNIA! He is the blame for this. On top of it all, no water for fire hydrants, not firefighting planes. A true disaster!"

The fires are pretty bad (I'm currently in Orange County, so pretty much the entire city of LA is in between me and the fires). The winds were pretty fierce here the last 2 days, it is pretty calm now (right where I am), but I think it is supposed to be at least 20 mph winds where the fires are for the rest of the week (as opposed to gusts up to 70+ mph last night). This area hasn't had any real rain for many months of unusually hot weather so everything is quite dry. Once a fire gets started in those conditions it is pretty much unstoppable and embers blow downwind and start new fires easily. These conditions were in the forecast with some pretty dire warnings, they knew if fires started it would be bad - and they brought in a bunch of extra firefighting equipment but with thousands of homes up against tinder dry foothills there is only so much you can do.
What did Biden do? - cancelled a planned ceremony for a new National Monument here, and declared a state of emergency. surely you don't expect him to grab a fire hose and get in the way?
ETA: While it is possible transferring water from the N could have resulted in slightly less burnable material once the fires got into built up areas, they wouldn't have put that water into the foothills chapparal where I think most of these fires started. While global warming possibly contributed to the extended hot and dry conditions, Santa Ana winds and droughts are nothing new here and happen no matter the politics of the government.

I am glad that there is Trump, who speaks the truth.
The following needs to be done: Remove the Democrat from office and put in prison. Replace all governors of all states with Republicans.
Democrats are enemies of humanity and friends of the Russians, Chinese and terrorists.
We recently saw how people died in Florida, now people are being burned in California. All this is the criminal policy of Biden and the Democrats. Biden's entire tenure is daily genocide and murder in Ukraine.
-
surely you don't expect him to grab a fire hose and get in the way?
That's exactly what this cowardly bastar.d should do. I always write that Biden's place is in prison and in the electric chair. I really hope that under Trump all the crimes of Biden and the Democrats will be revealed to the public.
Hang in there! Better prepare to evacuate, because under the Democrats there could be any casualties.

"This is just sad. Los Angeles is really hurting right now.
If you are anywhere near fires… please pack what’s necessary & evacuate immediately !!!!!!!!
I have many friends, neighbors & people I know that have lost everything. My own home & those around it are in extreme danger as the Santa Monica mountains fires continue to spread & has now even reached the Hollywood hills close to Runyon Canyon.
There are also fires picking up in other heavily mountain areas in surrounding areas.
To my friends who are trying to tough it out & stay home hoping it won’t completely come your way, be smart & leave now !!!!!!."

No proper fire extinction services as a public service.

There are very good people in Los Angeles who help Ukraine a lot. Also, the US is Ukraine's main ally. Therefore, Ukraine is not indifferent to the problems of the US.

It doesn't matter who Californians vote for in the US. The US is a democracy. Many US residents are politically illiterate and believe the lies of the Democrats. More precisely, the Democrats make the right speeches, but they always keep the figs in their pockets and deceive both their voters and allies. There is no need to put an equal sign between the party bosses of the Democratic Party and the citizens of the US.
Well, actually, that's why people suffered, because they believed the democrats. There shouldn't be joy here, but sympathy and support.

The USA is a technologically highly developed country. With so many technical achievements and innovations.
What I just don't want to understand are the power lines that still look the same today as they did 100 years ago. If we know - as has been proven by extensive studies - that the main cause of such fires is defective power lines, why on earth are they not buried in these areas? Especially in areas where storms are always raging so violently that the cables snap and their sparking ends set fire to dry bushes or trees.
And why are so many houses built entirely of wood in these areas, which contribute significantly to the immense flying sparks and feed the fires additionally?
Wouldn't it make sense to prevent the fires from taking on such devastating proportions in the first place?

stocker comes from a country that has been invaded by an imperialist who claims that the members of his people have been mistreated in this country and because he claims to need it as a military shield against NATO.
stocker supports an imperialist US president who threatens to annex - by force of arms if necessary - a country that is an autonomous territory of Denmark and also feels that it belongs to Denmark because he claims to need it as a military shield against Russia.
It remains a mystery how one can (rightly) rail against the aggressor and at the same time de-emphasize another potential occupier when one is affected by losing one's own nation and national identity to a foreign power.

However, it seems that arson is more likely to be involved here. By all accounts, the people responsible have also failed overall.

Apparently, there are things called "DEWs" ("directed energy weapons"), essentially "starlink" (or things like it), etc are weaponized to laser heat houses and burn them down. Apparently the same thing that happened in Hawaii. Purpose is for "land re-allocation" (i.e., kicking residents off their land), so some specific "rich" people can purchase the land cheap. Also - apparently if one has a blue house top (i.e., painted blue), the targeting software prevents the laser from burning it, in addition to the (blue) material painted on the rooftops being highly reflective material in the same wavelength as the laser light, thus 'reflecting' it.
Might be worth looking into more.

Anyways - its amazing, don't quite understand why - but why some people (as yourself) it seems have 100% absolute faith and trust in "elected" officials - to be looking out for "your" best interest, and seem to believe that 100% of what is presented on the "news", "newspapers" is "100% absolute truth", don't question anything - and just eat it up. You seem to 100% trust "authority" also, that it would "never" be abused, and that "authority figures" would always 100% tell you the truth, and would never, ever lie to YOU.
Additionally, it seems you 100% ONLY trust what is in "the news". And as for "scientists" or ANYONE in academia, you believe they are 100% "honest", would "never" be influenced by "money" to fudge their results, push a product or service if they benefited financially, and that "authority" figures would be absolutely the same.
You have a very narrow belief/model of how you think the world operates.
Why?

So, someone sets fire to a wooden house with a laser from a satellite at a wind speed of 100 mph in a currently dry area. The next wooden house is 6 yards away - the one with the blue roof. There is also a fairly dry hedge between the houses. Do you seriously believe that the house with the blue roof will be spared, even though the storm is coming directly from the direction of the burning neighboring house?
Before you start talking about science and the media, maybe you should just start with logic and think for yourself about the nonsense you're making up here. ::)

Yes, I have noticed for a long time that EU citizens blindly believe their leaders and what their press writes. They lack analytical thinking. I write this without specifying any specific person on this forum.
All this has bad consequences for the EU.

No, you're right. You didn't name a person.
It's EU citizens who can't think analytically. 450 million simple-minded people.
It's good that there are clever and analytical people like you two.
But I'll end this here now because I'm very sure that the victims of the LA fires don't deserve such nonsense.

Well. In order to keep citizens dumbed down... A few things they could do would be to:
a) Flouridate the water (fluoride is toxic waste, a neurotoxin, and makes people apathetic), and say it 'prevents cavitities' to help citizens from thinking anything further.
b) Regularly spray the air with chemicals such as barium, another toxin which makes people apathetic, etc. Chemtrails - but call it contrails and make people feel bubbly inside if they can make fun of someone else and say 'ooh! conspiracy theorist!'. Because then not only does it simultaneously close down their critical thinking skills - but they can't see the truth that is right in front of them.
c) Tax the crap out of them, raise prices on goods/services - such that most citizens just 'barely' have enough to survive, and are focused on living day to day - instead of having time to think. Get them to focus on "vacation" time - so they slave for 50 weeks out of the year (or 48) for a few weeks of "sunshine".
d) Make "fast food", "eating out", etc the go to thing, douse it in rape-seed (aka canola) oil, extremely toxic to the body.
e) Make them so tired/depressed/etc - that all they want to do is go home & watch the movies or "news", "movies" which promote gay/trans/crap for caucasians, abortions/etc...
Get them in a cycle where basically they live most of their life stuck in a loop - and by the time they figure out what is really going on, they are too old or senile to really do anything, and if they try and 'warn' the 'younger generation', the 'younger generation' which has also been convinced by media programming that they are "too hip & too cool" to listen to "seniors" reject the advice, and repeat the cycle all over again...
Oh. Wait a sec.
Yeah, that's what they are doing.
And... you've fallen into the same trap.
Try:
a) Drinking non-fluoridated water for about 3-4 weeks (no tap water, get it filtered).
b) Eat fruits/vegetables - ideally organic, that haven't been sprayed/injected/etc with various poisons. Heck, grow your own food if you can.
c) Turn off the t.v. for a month (VERY hard to do - because there are specific patents designed not only to make the programming addictive, but the 'way' the television works with refresh rates/HZ is designed to be addictive).
d) Cut out refined sugar for a couple weeks (no drinking/pastries/pasta/etc).
If you can do that - you might clear out some of your brain fog.
As it is though - sounds like you will continue to believe what "your masters" tell you on the t.v., that is - until you realize they are not "your master" and you actually are capable of clear, indepedent thought - which "they" are scared of you doing.
Try it seriously though.

That is 'kind' of it, yes. But arsonists are also used in some cases (cheaper/easier) - but usually that is for "climate change forest fires", when it is the arsonists causing the "climate" to "change".
And actually - yes - there was footage where the "blue roof" house was spared. Apparently has a combination of basically the lasers not targeting blue roofs (a software computer program to recognize that). That was for the maui "fires".

Let's take a purely scientific approach to the problem without the media.
In simple terms, lasers are bundled light radiation.
When this light radiation hits material, the photons transfer their energy to the atomic or molecular structure of the material, which in turn leads to heating and penetration of the material. Depending on the material, this results in fire.
These are energetic atomic processes and not a paint box where you can neutralize colors. Teflon, for example, can reduce the effect, but not paint.
Please explain to me on a physical basis why a blue surface should stop this process?
I am curious.

Yes. America is one of the most dangerous english speaking countries in the world to live in now. Their governments do not look after its people. There is not enough money in internal revenue to give sufficient infrastructure and protection against their rapidly rising climate problems, because zuckerberg musk and bezos want their massive tax breaks.
Half of its nation has been brainwashed into thinking that national healthcare, education, science, and safety are not important issues, so they go and vote for a president who says drill, baby drill, because they are frightened of immigrants and not having a gun.
Not only are they in danger to themselves, but to the rest of the world. They cannot fight earth, the earth will win. These fires, which are so horrible and sad to look at, and all the horrible climate events that have been getting worse, are not the end. There are a lot more coming as predicted by scientists. So far, scientists have been right. Climate deniers have been wrong. But they won't admit it. When will it stop?
Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children. - old native american saying.

Hi,
I've edited my original post slightly. From what I came across, I believe it was the following:
a) Educated guess that the targeting software was avoiding 'blue' colored items (i.e., 'blue' colored rooftops), similar to what is used in military when laser targeting things to 'blow up'.
b) But, also from what I read, if I recall correctly, the blue (paint) color did also have the added bonus of also 'reflecting' the laser light, in the following way.
When you "see" color (i.e., let's say blue), that is because the material is "reflecting" the color blue, while absorbing the other wavelengths. (The material is not actually "blue", the material is "absent" of blue because that is what is being reflected. The other colors in the light spectrum are being absorbed by the material).
That is why "black" material tends to get hot quickly - because it is absorbing "all" the color/light - so none is reflected (and is the 'absence' of color being reflected), while "white" tends to be "cool" - simply because it is "reflecting" all the colors.
So when a blue laser light shot is shot down from the grid array (i.e., like elon musks "starlink") - it 'burns' everthing except the material that was painted in the highly reflective identical blue color as the laser light.

- old native american saying.
a) "Climate problems", aka "climate change" is a narrative designed to manipulate people into austerity. "Climate change" for the most part is manufactured via (i) regular chemtrail spraying, (ii) haarp (resonance frequency 'cloud' dispersal), (iii) "wind turbines" which "blow" the desired weather patterns into various regions.
The military (not 'just' the us, but worldwide) tends to be used as a tool to do that. Lol - "climate deniers" is a term invented the last couple years to basically try and avoid thinking - aka - "if you don't agree with me, YOU ARE A CLIMATE DENIER!!!". No. That is a manipulation tactic, and a weak one at that. "Climate change" for the most part is manufactured, "created".
b) Plenty of $$ in 'internal revenue', and easy to 'tax' people via money printing, threat of coercion unless 'income tax' is paid, etc. Most countries have slaves, and the slaves don't even know they are slaves. Tell-a-vision has conditioned them to believe they need to have a ball & chain to be a 'slave' - when if you stop and think about it - if you are "giving" 6 months of your income to random individuals - in essence - for 6 months of the year you work for free. For the rest of the 6 months of income you collect, you have to figure out how to feed yourself, house yourself, & if you are lucky - you have a little bit left over for "entertainment". You aren't "supposed" to work 52 weeks out of the year - you've been conditioned from birth, however, to believe that is the case.
c) "National health care" is actually very, very bad - if you are referring specifically to allopathic (i.e., 'whitecoat') doctors. Through conditioned (tell a vision, schooling, etc) - people are led to 'believe' they are good - when in fact, they are very very bad. Many doctors just "follow orders" & "prescribe medication" - which is very, very bad. The allopathic/rockefeller medical "industry" is a FOR PROFIT industry. There is no money in healthy patients (plus, "they" don't really want healthy individuals that can fight back) - there is money in sick patients that regularly need treatment. The allopathic medicine is designed to HIDE SYMPTOMS - NOT CURE. Naturapathic (among other non-allopathic medicines) medicine (which they attack visciously) - is designed to heal & cure.
d) "Edjookatchun" is designed to teach people to (i) obey authority without question, (ii) try to break their willpower & just follow orders, (iii) keep them dumbed down to about a grade 3 level (reading/math/etc). You have "university graduates" who can't add two numbers in their head, and need to use a calculator to figure out how to give exact change. Public education would be better described as public dumbing down.
e) "Science" - or rather most "scientists" get $$$ based on how many papers they publish, and many times are 'sponsored' by "drug companies" etc to promote a certain narrative, so fudge results. "Peer review" does not actually tend to be what one would think "peer review" means. (I was in academia, among other things).
f) "They" - assuming you are speaking about natively born americans - are not "afraid of immigrants" per se. "They", however, don't like certain cultures which have (for the most part) no ethics, are extremely corrupt, and easily manipulated by "money" - aka - they will do ANYTHING for $$$.
g) With respect to "g3ns" lol - em, have you even "visited" the us recently? How many places are set up (in metropolitan areas) - there are "security officers" everywhere, "for your safety", you really can't enter ANY popular venue with one (i.e., concerts, stadiums, etc) "for your safety", you need "permission" (if you are law abiding) to get one, etc, etc - so in essence - it is a little bit of an illusion if one believes they can "own" one - simply because they can't really take it anywhere with them (unless they are say at a range in a forest) - and need to get a lot of "permission". Of course - "criminals" don't care - but they never cared - and that is true pretty much for any country.
h) Out of curiosity, how does one "fight earth"? Also, who "loaned" earth - I never recall any bank notice about an "earth loan".

Also - apparently if one has a blue house top (i.e., painted blue), that prevents the laser from burning it because the wavelength of the laser doesn't heat a specific blue wavelength.
Might be worth looking into more.
From a purely scientific point of view, there is another question.
The solar panels on satellites are capable of supplying up to 13 kW of energy.
A laser weapon for drone defense requires 30 kW, modern systems are 300 to 500 kW to shoot down even larger flying objects at a distance of 1 to 7 miles. The Iron Beam is also designed for distances of up to 6/7 miles.
The powerful weapon systems are the size and weight of sea containers, while a Starlink satellite weighs between 300 and 800 kg and is much smaller.
Starlink satellites fly at an altitude of 350 miles. That would be the minimum distance the satellite would be from a house on Earth if it were at the zenith above it. And that's only for a second. Because the satellite flies at a speed of 17,000 mph.
What our "scientist" writes may be conceivable in a few years' time - whether it is financially viable is another matter. Because such a system and every launch with it costs immense sums of money. This would first have to be amortized by the supposed land gain.
Currently, his thesis comes from sci-fi movies, of which he watches too many...

I didn't want to make it too complicated ;)
We could list pages and pages of plausible counterarguments here, but that won't help.
For one thing, our friend has shown that he has no idea about physics and confuses high-energy laser systems with laser pointers.
Also, something has happened again that was typically to be expected. If you penetrate their world view with arguments, their arguments are simply changed and adapted.
And yes, to light houses from space, you probably need lasers in the peta-watt range. There is actually a laser that can do that. It is located underground in Passau and is over 3 km long.

As a joke. Now in the US there is a version spreading that it was a UFO that set Los Angeles on fire, and they even show a flying saucer.
If there really was arson, I think it was either the Russians or the Democrats. The Democratic Party is doing a lot of drastic things right now to make Trump's presidency a failure and to disrupt his plans.
But either way, California is not ready for fires, and those responsible need to be put in the electric chair.
-
For those who are interested:
The one photo of the laser beam that is said to have triggered the fires on Maui was taken by SpaceEx in California back in 2018 and is a 20-second long exposure of a rocket launch.
The second photo of the laser beam that is said to have started the fires on Maui was taken back in 2018 and shows the fire at an oil refinery in Ohio.
The footage reported by our "expert" was shot in Paradise, California, in 2018.
There was a house in Lahaina that survived the fire unscathed. It has a red roof.
The house with the blue roof he writes about is not on Maui, but on Molokai.
I offer our star analyst: I'll leave the TV off. And you go to the doctor.
-
If there really was arson, I think it was either the Russians or the Democrats.
And here is our second candidate for the doctor!

Let's just all make stuff up shall we...
So the fires were started by Trump and the Republican Party. They went for one week into January as they knew the fires would most likely be out two weeks later when Trump takes power, at which point LA would be at its lowest point... and from there the only way is up. End of Biden's presidency... LA in ruins. Beginning, middle and end of Trumps presidency... assistance, rebuilding, drop in unemployment in all fields of construction, massive improvements to fire preparedness across the board, a flourishing LA etc etc (which would have been almost exactly the same no matter who the president was, but hey... he'll sure as hell take credit for it all!).
...there, my nonsense makes just as much sense as your nonsense! So does that mean we should send Trump to the electric chair? Sorry, I'm not 100% clear on the rules you've established in your fantasy world.

Poor houses: no fire-proof, no water-proof, no wind-proof, no foundations. Poor materials (sold as gold) and weak buildings, like huts.
No proper fire extinction services as a public service.
Every year the same.
we don't want no stinkin' gummint intefering with our property rights & let's get rid of all regulatory agencies, FEMA, firefighting budgets, etc or privatize them.
oh, wait, is it getting near my house? why isnt biden helping me!
let's see how the orange man deals with such fires later this year. .....
======================
at least till Jan 20 we DO have a govt that aid, support for the newly homeless, and brings in firefighters from around the US & co-ordinates those from Mexico & other countries
CA h as long had water problems, and much of what's happening now is drawdown by the heavy demands from those fighting the fires. air support has been hindered or grounded by 100 mph winds and smoky obscurity making flying too dangerous.
The local water system failed because the city’s infrastructure was built to respond to routine structure fires, not massive wildfires across multiple neighborhoods, experts told us. Ann Jeffers, a University of Michigan civil and environmental engineering professor who studies fire engineering, said she doesn’t know of any industry standard for designing city water supplies to fight the kind of fire that erupted in the Palisades.

unfortunately these disasters are increasing - January was never part of the CA fire season and yet climate denial is one of the main tenets of the Republican party.

proposition 1 money is for myriad projects such as wastewater management, stormwater capture, recycling and groundwater cleanup.
Of the total bond money, $6.4 billion has been committed to projects and more than $2 billion has been spent, says Nancy Vogel, the Natural Resources Agency’s deputy secretary for water. In all, 1,838 projects have been funded and 760 are completed.
another fact is that many of the projects are based in No CA, and don't affect the LA water system.

Wouldn't it make sense to prevent the fires from taking on such devastating proportions in the first place?
sorry, you're making way too much sense -
actually lightning strikes are biggest cause of US wikd fires (in vast areas w no power lines) but power lines are a major source of fires such as the devastating Maui wildfire that destroyed Lahaina , it's not clear yet what started the CA fires but they were certainly exploded by the firerce, dry 100 mph santa anna winds (like the mistrsal, fohn & other European seasonal winds)

What have you been smoking again?
Nothing. You?
Anyways - its amazing, don't quite understand why - but why some people (as yourself) it seems have 100% absolute faith and trust... {repeated blah blah nonsense, as usual attacking the person since you have NO basis for what opinions}
you basically fail the trutrh-test in your claim that those who ask you for facts are 100% based on anything. none of th e rational folk here have ever uttered anything approaching 100% 'faith' in anything Prove me wrong!
again,
so just who or what are the sources YOU rely on when you post the silly but dangerous whaledreck you seem to consider reality? you ask for others to supply sources, but you have yet to show any factual basis (other than maybe MTG's jewish space lasers slanders which claim lasers set wildfires)
-
My condolences to the colleagues affected by the fire, wishing you and your family peace!

cascoly, I think after Trump's inauguration there will be a criminal investigation into the Democrats' policies and the guilty Democrats will be jailed. The public will finally know the truth.

The Santa Ana winds are the problem of extreme propagation. But a wind cannot start a fire. First it needs the famous spark, such as arson, lightning strikes or even faulty power lines, which according to this study (which I mentioned earlier) play a central role.
https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.abh2262 (https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.abh2262)
But, of course, you're right. In remote areas where there are no power lines, lightning is the main problem.

My heart goes out to all the people here that are affected by these devasting LA fires. Please let us know if there's anything we can do. Any links to places we can donate to, Red Cross, or whatever. The destruction from the fires looks devasting.
To others, please don't blame political parties, governors or mayors. I know people want these things never to happen again, but we need understanding not blame in matters like this.
A few years back, I was contracted to our State's Department for Environment to go around to all the main regional offices and train their Rangers on Asset Management. These guys were so wonderful and loved their jobs and were so committed to keeping our country safe. They would take me out to lunch after the training sessions, and I learnt a lot. South Australia is one of those areas similar to California that is very prone to bushfires (USA calls them wildfires). Apparently hilly areas are the most dangerous for bushfires because they cannot come in and create container zones between townships and the fires. This is often impossible on hillsides. Also, fire travels faster up inclines than on level ground, the hilly terrain also means bush fires can move more quickly and become harder to control.
Anyway, my heart goes out to all of you and wishing you all the very best. Please let us know what we can do.

cascoly, I think after Trump's inauguration there will be a criminal investigation into the Democrats' policies and the guilty Democrats will be jailed. The public will finally know the truth.
But you've had a sneak peek of this 'truth' in advance... somehow?!
Yeah, I'd be curious where you're getting your news from as well. Obviously Fox is out as they seem like Biden's best friends compared to some of the nonsense you're spouting. Newsmax and OAN... maybe, but they still seem a bit tame compared to your political leanings and insinuations. It's probabaly just some insane Facebook groups or X accounts.
But please, tell us exactly what Biden has done to deserve the electric chair? I mean, I'm assuming you feel that Trump shouldn't be jailed for all the things he's done... so the electric chair for whatever you think Biden has done?! What are we talking here... depraved serial killer, mass genocide, does he have a walk in freezer filled with the bodies of his victims just off the oval office, etc etc?
We should have a specific stoker2014 thread in the off topic section, and every time you say something ridiculous, we can post it in there. Maybe you could just post all your stuff in there from now on... save us a job. If ever anyone is feeling down they can head over to the thread and have a good chuckle.

Raging flames driven by a fierce windstorm scorched a rapidly growing area of Southern California, destroying homes, forcing at least 30,000 residents to evacuate and choking the sky with smoke, with officials warning that the worst was yet to come.
Is there anyone from California?
What are Biden and the Democrats doing? >:( >:( >:(
President Elected posted this info today
+100
I am glad that there is Trump, who speaks the truth.
The following needs to be done: Remove the Democrat from office and put in prison. Replace all governors of all states with Republicans.
Democrats are enemies of humanity and friends of the Russians, Chinese and terrorists.
We recently saw how people died in Florida, now people are being burned in California. All this is the criminal policy of Biden and the Democrats. Biden's entire tenure is daily genocide and murder in Ukraine.
Yes I agree. Democrats & Labour in my country (England) never seem to care about us only illegal aliens / immigrants & Minorities apart from the disabled whom they don't like. The Gov in England even wants to legalize assisted dying - just the kind of thing Putin would do

Much of the cost is the cost of the land - a lot up in the hills adjacent to nature costs many $ - and also is much more likely to burn. Also most builders know how to build with wood - it is relatively cheap and fast and much of the work can be done by only semi-skilled workers- so most houses are highly flammable. There are too many people for the number of houses available, so a house in the foothills of LA costs many times what the same house would cost in the middle of the country.

As a doctor, I am very much in favor of controlled assisted dying being regulated by law.
I also understand and accept the counter-arguments.
This is a very sensitive and complicated issue.
In this respect, I find it quite inappropriate to refer to Putin here.
I'm assuming that you've never been in an oncology intensive care unit.
If I were you, I would simply read up on the subject again.

He's probably a fan of putin and Russians. But I'll say this: the Russian Empire has a very low level of medicine, and few people receive help there anyway, which is tantamount to assisted dying.

I absolutely agree.
Anyone who is against the subject across the board should wish with all their heart that they were never affected themselves. Because the people I have known who have been affected have wished for nothing more.
When the status quo has progressed so far that the eyes, nose, mouth, all muscles, life-sustaining reflexes (swallowing reflex, eyelid reflex etc.) are no longer able to function and everything in the body except the heart and brain no longer function and the body is consumed by cramps and excruciating pain for months on end and a cure is impossible, that is the time when this debate MUST at least be held.
-
I think this is a difficult question. The thing is that the level of medicine and doctors is very different in different hospitals and different countries. Let's say if in russia they can't support a person normally, but in Germany they can, then what? Or in Israel they can provide more help to a patient than in Germany. What to do then?
Here we need to start with politicians and doctors. Many criminal cases can be opened on this topic and many incompetents and corrupt people can be put in prison or in the electric chair.

Exactly that Wilm and unfortunately it's not even discussed here.
And there is a certain irony in the fact that in Germany you can now change your gender in an afternoon at will. And if you feel like it, you can still have your genitals irreversibly mutilated without counseling.

I would have liked to respond to your argument.
But your choice of words with the electric chair crap once again disqualifies you for any discussion.
Don't you actually have a learning curve?

:o :o :o
You have already answered all my questions with this post of yours.
But I'll amuse you, my learning curve is strictly downward! ;D ;D ;D
ps.
I know that all doctors in the world are very afraid of prosecution and precedents and cover up for their colleagues who are corrupt, criminal and incompetent.

The Gov in England even wants to legalize assisted dying - just the kind of thing Putin would do
As a doctor, I am very much in favor of controlled assisted dying being regulated by law.
I also understand and accept the counter-arguments.
This is a very sensitive and complicated issue.
In this respect, I find it quite inappropriate to refer to Putin here.
I'm assuming that you've never been in an oncology intensive care unit.
If I were you, I would simply read up on the subject again.

I absolutely agree.

Oregon was the first state to approve Death w Dignity in 1994, a dozen other states have followed. I'm glad my state of Washington enacted a law in 2009 (i did pro bono computer consulting for one of the campaigns).
The actual number of people using assisted suicide is < 500 (about .05% of all WA deaths)

Thank you Steve, you have just made a very valuable point here.
In Germany, this is discussed under the unpleasant terms of assisted death, euthanasia and assisted suicide.
The term death w dignity takes a lot of negative energy out of the discussion.
I will pass this on. Unfortunately, the topic has completely disappeared in Germany.

“The richest people should pay their fair taxes so that we can have the money to provide firefighting services.”
— Rep. Maxine Waters Dem.
The truth: CA has the highest top income-tax rate in the country, and “the richest” already pay more than their “fair share” The top 1% pay nearly 50% of the tax revenue to the state.
The state claims they didn't cut funding but the mayor of LA did. She diverted money to the homeless and illegals. The first blame goes to the electric company, that provides power for people with electric cars, electric stoves, electric heating and cooling, because CA is banning gas stoves, gas furnaces and gas cars. CA residents want everything both ways, but don't really know what they want.
If the state would clear brush and make fire breaks, at least there would be some chance of keeping these annual fires from spreading and being so devastating. Instead they say "It won't work" and don't try. A never ending list of why they can't prevent these fires, but a long list of blaming climate, blame PG&E, and blame the rich.

This is why Trump and the Republicans won the election. The US Democrats are losers and criminals.
-
LA Times: "Laguna Beach adopted a set of fire-resistant construction standards, developed native brush fuel modification standards and greatly increased the amount of water stored at an elevation where only gravity is required to provide pressure to hydrants.
Our fuel modification efforts are moving too slowly. The brush that surrounds and infiltrates our developed areas is no longer in its natural state. It has become an overgrown source of limitless fuel that can burn entire neighborhoods to the ground. "
The usual answer to this kind of better way to prevent fires, before they are firestorms?
"To the editor: Several people are quoted as saying that poor brush clearance was among the reasons the Palisades fire and others have been so bad.
Although preventing huge firestorms is not as simple as implied, elimination of brush can lead to other major problems. Erosion and landslides that can result from "climate whiplash" also cause tremendous damage.
Without a decrease in the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, we can expect more firestorms and more damaging atmospheric rivers. Those who continue to publicly deny the global warming that is caused by burning fossil fuels should help pay for the recovery from this destruction.
Bill Roundy, Orange"
OK lets not talk about the problem, and instead start shouting about nature, climate change and greenhouse gasses. Maybe someone can explain climate whiplash and how that applies to water in elevated places, better fire resistant homes and clearing brush and the fuel for the fires? But mostly this is how things are in California. People don't want to admit that they built their homes in a prairie that for centuries, was open grass and brush, that burned in a natural way, on a regular basis. And they won't admit that they have to prevent fires, instead of just complaining and blaming some outside forces.
The Native Americans were smart enough to build almost all village sites, on the East side of a river, so when the prairie fires came in the Spring, they had a fire break. No I'm not saying that California has that option, but if they know the history and ecology and natural system of the area, they would have planned to prevent these fires, instead of denial and blame.

the LA fires are an outlier in wildfires & our response to them - they are devastating areas that seemed to be at low risk --
unfortunately "If the state would clear brush and make fire breaks, at least there would be some chance of keeping these annual fires from spreadin" ran into a perfect storm - last year's records rains led to overgrowth orf brush et al, then this year's drought turned it into kindling.
a major factor we have to deal with tho are people who build in climate-vulnerable areas who are then paid by govt and favorable insurance policies that subsidize their risk. in most year's 95% of wildfire expenditures go to protecting private property
