Hi all, here's some fun stuff.
I decided to post quotes of some famous photographers and anonymous. Feel free to post any you may also remember.

These are some of my favourites:

I was surprised to see this there:

"Photography was once described as painting with light. - Anonymous "

As I understand it, it wasn't so much 'once described' as such, but is a deliberate construct, fusing two  Greek words together and is literally translated as 'drawing with light'.  ("Photo" being the word for light - and "graph" the word for drawing).

I'm not an expert in Greek, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I was told many years ago.

Can't remember where I saw it or heard it, but I'll paraphrase

"Those who can't shoot can get a 40MP camera and their photos will still suck, but they'll suck at a much higher resolution"

Thanks Eppic - good of you to confirm that  :)

Stormchaser - that's a great paraphrase.  They should put that at the top of agency FAQs  :D

The one quote from Ansel Adams that stays with me is this:

"You don't take a photograph, you make a photograph."

(I hope I got that right)

PS . . .  I forgot I was talking to a bunch of salty old dogs so I guess everyone knows that quote. :)

That's a great one too etienjones.

I like this one - it's one I need to keep in mind myself:

If you are out there shooting, things will happen for you. If youre not out there, youll only hear about it. - Jay Maisel

"Thing, you're a handful."   Morticia Addams

Why are there so many quotes in the original from people named Adams?
