I have a few dozen older photos without info and I'd like to send some to StockXpert and 123.  Does anyone know of a way to add data to the jpegs without opening and saving them (and risking added artifacts)?  It seems that I can add a few by right clicking the file in Explorer, but only so many characters saved.

Thank God I eventually clued into adding the data in photoshop.

IrfanView should do... free too

Exifer is also free.  I like it because you can copy IPTC data from one file to the other (although this overwrites also the EXIF data, which I don't have in my edited images anyway - but I have them in the originals, so I don't bother).

Take a look at Microsoft's PhotoInfo. It's free and you can add IPTC data to multiple files http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/prophoto/photoinfo.mspx

You can use Irfanview http://www.irfanview.com. It's free and modifying IPTC is lossless.

To ease your workflow (just using mouseclicks) you could use my script on http://www.flemishdreams.com/tag/ : reorder, spell-check, templates, duplicates, any format on output.

I always type my titles and keywords (separated by commas) into a text file and save that with the images in their folder for safe keeping then use pixvue.

Unfortunately their home page is no longer active, plenty of third party sites to download from

Thanks for the suggestions everyone - I'm sure you likely helped others than just me.

I have Ifran view, but I seem to require a plug in to add keywords for some reason so I'll snoop around for that.

Nazdravie, do you use the Microsoft program?  I did look at the link and I couldn't find info about keywording anywhere.  It looks pretty user friendly though.

FlemishDreams, thanks for the link.  I will especially find the the spell check and duplications feature useful!

I use PhotoInfo and it's hard to tell in the picture on the website but there's a row of tabs at the top of the program and one of them is keywords. It's nice because you just right click the file(s) in Windows Explorer, select Photo Info, and load the info. There's no need to open the picture and resave it. I'm giving ProStockMaster a try too.

I use to use pixview until I accidently deleted it (and didn't find a site to get a copy from).  Based on suggestions from here, I've been using photoinfo.  Things I like are:
- edit multiple files (as a collection) and as individuals in one session allowing for common info and shot specific details
- icon at the bottom of a photo changes (a window's thing I think) showing me I've added info to a file

Things I'm not happy about:
- replaces commas with semi-colons and removes spaces
- doesn't "remember" recent keywords so you have to retype (it does remember titles and author info)
- sometimes the data isn't recognized on DT, Feature Pics (when info for files edited at the same time are)
- keywords and descriptions are never recognized by IS (this may be brower-related as I use Netscape)

I think it's Pixvue who does this.

With Exifer, I only have problems in IS (title and keywords; description uploads fine). They are aware of the problem, but never did anything about it.

Hi,

I think you can use Adobe Bridge, which doesn't require you to open the images to add the data
Some other option is Pro Stock Master. It's not free but for the adding keywords function you can do it with the trial version. This one also Generates keywords and ables you to copy from other files
