Early last month the mayor of Topeka, Kansas stunned the world by announcing that his city was changing its name to Google.
The unusual move is a response to Googles new Fiber for Communities program. Google is going to install new Internet connections in unannounced locations, giving those communities Internet speeds 100 times faster than those elsewhere, with data transfer rates faster than 1 gigabit per second. Mayor hoped the proclamation would catch Googles attention. Guess what, today Google officially changed its name to Topeka to honor this gesture. No info on which municipalities are chosen to participate in our experimental ultra-high-speed broadband project.

I don't think it's much of an Aprils fool, the town did actually change it's name, Google are always changing their graphics so to change it to Topeka for a day isn't much of a prank, I wonder how many people just carried on using it without being 'fooled' especially considering that by the time it appeared April fools day was pretty much officially finished over this side of the water. I know for a fact that it was still showing 'Google'  this morning our time so if I had seen it this afternoon I wouldn't have paid much attention to it.

Now this is a much better effort by them:

Google often joins April Fool's and I was waiting for something.  Instead, there is a Hans Christian Andersen logo series, but that is actually for April 2nd.  It's curious to celebrate "205" years.

Well I say congrats to the Topekians on the uber high speed testing .. they need something extra for living in Kansas .. Living over the border in Missouri I can say that the coolest thing about driving across Kansas is when you tell yourself "In a few hours we'll be in Colorado !!!"  ;D

Lol, as a "Kansas", I have no problem with this.  I usually can't wait to get out of the state either.
