This is a question that a lot of new folks ask thus I have a rough formula based on my stats (Below average photographer at best, photos only, no special area of expertise)

Here it what I have seen- now most of the sales are from the 25 a day download section thus cannot predict the monthly $$ amount. Also mileage may very per artist  :)

Portfolio Size -    Monthly Sales
350            100
700            200
1,050         300
1,400         400
1,750         500
2,100         600
2,450         700
2,800         800
3,150         900
3,500         1,000

That works until your car stalls out and starts to roll back down the hill.  ;)

"That works until your car stalls out and starts to roll back down the hill.'

This would be the 'Wall' - not sure where the Wall hits. I would guess maybe around 10,000 or not updating pics for over a year or more.

I have to agree with your formula, it works - roughly -  to me as well...

Those numbers are very close to my experience as well.

I put a lot of thought into this analysis and used a few other folks as well to see if it was close. I feel that a large percentage of us fall in the same category. Sure a few of us are off the richer scale and shoot nothing but gems thus this formula will not work for them. Wish I was one of them for sure... :-X

I would love to know about vector contributors and if they have any stats ...

all images are not equal.

In my opinion those numbers are far too high.

Very interesting topic, as I consider myself a newbie based on my port size (even though I have been messing with this stuff since 2007).  I currently have 153 images at SS, and averaged 60 downloads a month last year, mostly subscription.

Out of curiosity, I looked at my numbers back in the "feed the beast" 2007 heyday, and with a port of around 30-40, I was getting around 140 downloads a month as long as I was uploading.   Of course, as soon as I stopped, the downloads dropped dramatically to around 20 d/l a month.   (Too bad I didn't spend my time building my port up in those days instead of now - ah, that 20/20 hindsight).   At least SS is more consistent nowadays even if you aren't uploading every week.

I am only at 991 images on Shutter thus holding this pattern but time will tell when I reach the larger volumes...

I tought I am a very poor seller, but sad thing I'm not. At the beginning (les than a year) I was under these numbers. Now I'm slightly above, with 500 and heading to 200 dlds/month. But that's SS, at other I sell less than what it should be from the pool. DT almost 600 pictures and selling under 10 pics per month :(.
IS very good at the beginning (beating SS for 6 months in a row) and then going down, with this month beeing the worst- -0 dlds with 500 pics.
I think this is only for fun, if you plan to make real money from it and start now or about a year ago like me, no chance. Sad thing that now I see increase only at SS, with a small and new port growing.

My personal estimate number has been 25 DLs per Month per 100 files. I don't know about "The Wall" because I only upload when I'm in the mood and pretty much all my files are One of a Kind. For someone who shoots 50 variations of the same set-up, it's going to be different. I'd guess lower? But that's just a guess.

My photos should mark the lowest end of the scale, unless someone has 300 images of six subjects. Hope that explains it better. I don't shoot anything that needs a release. 50 Raster illustrations, no vectors.

Interesting - lots of us in the same ballpark, in terms of DLs as a percentage of port size, I reckon about 33% on SS, 90% on IS+PP, 10% on FT and 5% on DT but lots of variation in RPD so the money doesn't follow the same pattern.

I'd guess the good vector folks numbers are much higher.

Funny ;)

I have 702 Images and had 201 downloads last month. So you are spot on  :)

So, out of curiousity, would anyone agree that, on 123, 1 image will yield approximately 1 RC?

3600 images and 1181 downloads so I'm slightly above your table, but it is pretty close.

On SS the quality and more important the concept of the photos matters more than size of the portfolio. you can make 1k downloads/month with 7-800 images online or 500 sales with 3k online. the size of the port is not a reliable criteria.

in my case: 2380 images online and between 1100-1250 downloads/month (depends on the month)

660 images on SS, 360 dls per month and I am not happy with it. Its far too low.

800 files on SS and around 600 d/ls.. And my vectors sell lot more than photos.. Though I have just 30-35% of my port as vectors, they make up 70% of my d/ls..

Interesting... I must be doing better then the average  :). With a small port of around 80 images at SS I made 150 downloads last month and am now at around 50 downloads in this month. Port is only photos. But only my best photos are in the port, not many variations of the same subject.

What would be interesting is, if this is true on average for new images. For example if I make 250 dls from 500 images a month an then add another 500 images, would I really make 500 dls? I am asking this because I am not sure if the new images can move up in the Popular search so well with almost weekly 100000 images being added. I have not uploaded for s long time so I would be interested in your opinion.
