Coldest day I've ever lived through. Plainfield is 40 minutes east of downtown Chicago.

From my iPhone:

My phone's screenshot is displaying Monday morning's temperature.

I'm in the Chicago area and -17F and -40F wind chill were fun. Northwest Indiana declared a state of emergency and shut down all roads and expressways except for emergency vehicles. I'm going to try to get downtown this weekend to get some shots in.

Here in Minneapolis it was about -25 Sunday night.  On Monday, wind chills were below -50.  That's not as unusual as the media are proclaiming.  In '96 we had -31 one evening - I took a cup of hot water into the back yard, threw it up into the air and it froze into a shower of ice crystals.

I do not envy you that snow and cold, it is bad enough here with the winds, rain and floods without freezing as well

I'm in Winnipeg Manitoba (4 hours north of Fargo ND).  December was the coldest December since 1880's.  They don't run the school busses at -40 so there were no busses their first two days of school after Christmas.  I have a snow drift behind my back door that is about 3 feet over my head.  It's mostly snow blowing off the roof but the dogs don't care where it came from, they still have to get over it/through it.  I had a path/tunnel dug through for them, but it blew in last night and they just climbed up and over.

I don't know these guys btw, but this was a couple days ago.

Here (Kyiv) today we have had 7 or 8º C
Five years ago we had more normal temperature for the season - 30 -35º C

Keep the cold there, here we are happy with it :D

JPSDK

Here (Denmark) we have a rain storm and 8 degrees Celsius. Much warmer than normal.

* -- well I won't mention my San Diego weather then  :o 8)

I live in the north part of Sweden, it has been warmar then normal this winter with several degrees above freezing. Normal for this time of year is between -10 to -20 celsius , but today it's -9 and will get colder this weekend.

coldest I have experienced is -42 celsius  :)

More to come rimglow. Ice Age is coming.  ;) Global Cooling is the new fear mongering call. I knew we should have kept those CFCs in things.

Wow, wimpy in Indiana, shut down roads for cold? I'm in Belgium and nothing changed here except some schools didn't run buses. (Belgium WI is about 100 miles straight North of Chicago, for those of you who are wondering what the heck?)

Wanted to go to town, so I put the charger on the car for 30 minutes, started right up.

I feel worse for the homeless people who haven't figured a way to head South. About the only serious point of this entire post.

Heat wave today, my outdoor thermometer says 34 degrees, officially 31, but it's overcast and I don't see anything turning to water on the driveway. Here's what's next in the forecast. Ice Pellets followed by freezing rain tonight and Saturday it's going to snow.

The weather in Wisconsin is coolish. (WI jokes.) Summer is the week each side of the 4th of July, in a good year. It's six months of Winter and six months of hard sledding. People here wear a ski parka and shorts the same day, sometimes at the same time.

60: People in Wisconsin plant gardens.
50: People in Madison sunbathe.
40: People in Wisconsin drive with the windows down.
32: The water in Lake Michigan gets thicker.
20: People in Wisconsin throw on a flannel shirt.
15: People in Wisconsin have the last cookout before it gets cold.

But I'll tell you a true story, not something you'll find on Snopes later. When I was a kid, it snowed on the 4th of July parade in Eagle River, WI. That was 1957 and we were there.

I'll admit, it's colder in Fargo and most of MN and all of inland Canada. No complaints, we have seasons and changing weather and it's never dull.

Speaking of Wisconsin and cold weather, I saw a convertible with the top down on the way to the Packers game last Sunday.  The temperature was about 5 degrees Fahrenheit.

Pixart

Yay, it's -5 Celsius today!  Digging out the shorts and sunglasses as we speak.

December 21, 2012 was not in 2012 but it is in 2014
The end is close...

Uncle Pete

See any fans with their shirts off in the stands? Crazy!
