So far I've found about 18 copies of the postcard I'd like to send out, so this should work!

This sounds very interesting. Didn't catch how it works. How to we get the address of the people to send to?

Basically you:
- Prepare a postcard as per your last post...

Then...? :)

I'd like to participate but not quite sure how this works :) (I'm a slow learner... but when I learn... I learn for good ;))

Morphart  - Last year, RacePhoto sent each participant a message with link to list of addresses. Try it, you'll like it :D

Just give Race your address in a PM so he can add you to the list.  It's really a lot of fun receiving all the postcards from around the world.

Yes and I'm putting together the list right now, you would make it 12 which is about the limit. Reason is the postage costs more than the cards.  :o

If you want to email or PM more questions, feel free.

Basically if there are 12 people, you mail 11 cards and get 11 cards. I send myself one just for the archives and to make sure they are moving. So 12 cards. That's kind of easy.

Then when I have everyone's address (and I'm missing one now, yours would make it two missing) I PM or EM a link with the list. I tried sending the list but it gets complicated, so I have a private folder somewhere in cyberspace and I send the link to the people who asked to be included.

Be aware I've left some optional names on the list just in case anyone wants to send out a card to someone else.

Jump Right in, the water's fine.

Pretty much the rules are, there are no rules. Send a card get a card. B&W, Color, Tintype, photo with address on the back, professional postcard printing. ANything you want.

Original photo, description on the back and who it's from would be good.

As soon as I get the last two addresses I'm mailing. I have 14 cards, one to everyone, one to Valerie, one to myself. Hmm, I think that leaves one spare for someone extra.

Morphart is added, now I'm just waiting for NiceMonkey to make a visit and send me the address. Unless that happened and I lost it?

Cards printed, ID of the subject on the back. I'll need to figure out the whole 98c stamp thing, Canada and US... and then get them addressed.

I already received two. Hey you overachievers!  8)

LOL, so it costs more here in USA to mail International Postcards when the text is bigger?

I thought all regular-size International postcards sent from USA = 98-cents postage.

Oops. someone screwed up! (again?) That was supposed to be Canada, 80c in there. I must have mixed up my Ctl-C and Ctl-V.  I'll go fix it, but you can leave the error in the quote. It was pretty funny! When did it go up from 75c?

RacePhoto - When I was buying postcard stamps for your first postcard exchange here, the postal clerk mentioned that all (regular sized) International postcards were 98-cents, so I guess that was about a year ago.

(I thought you got that nifty-looking postage rate chart from someplace online, or I wouldn't have said anything about the 80/98.)

Not that I know of. I didn't have anyone else say they moved except Karimala.

I looked at the USPS site for the rates, let me explain. US 29 cents, unless it's "oversized" Then it goes as first class. Canada is 80 cents from the US. And everywhere else in the world is 98c, from the US for a standard size postcard. I don't know what they do with oversized, overseas?

Mine are all just plain old 4x6. Printed, waiting for the last address.

If anyone else moved since last Jan. please write.  :D

You should have a PM with the link to the list.

Hmm...  "You have exceeded the limit of 10 personal messages per hour. " Which means someone didn't get it?

I also had the five person limit when I sent to the first six, so one person didn't get that. I don't know who?

OK some lets try method #2 just in case. If you didn't get the link to the list, PM or email me. LOL

Got it, thanks

Oh good, I thought I was going to get nine more "I didn't get it" messages.  :o  ;)

Now I need stamps and a big storm is coming in. I should have thought of that last Monday when I was at the post office!

"Total snow accumulation 5 to 7 inches. Lows around 19. Northwest winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of snow near 100 percent." Near? They say 5-7 inches and it's near 100% LOL That's 19F = -7C

Looking at postage, I'll just tack this on and no make a new message:

The January 22nd Price Changes are headlined by a 1 increase in the price to mail a one-ounce, single-piece letter by First-Class Mail. The single-piece postcard rate, which increased by 1 to 29 in April 2011, will increase by an additional 3 to 32.  So mail now, rates are going up again.  :)

So then what stamps can I buy, to mail 98c postcards overseas, 90c to Canada and 29c for the USA people?

Mark you calendars. New US postage rates coming. Buy those forever stamps and save a penny?  ;D

Pull The Trigger!  :D

I know it's a mess and confusing, but here's what happened. I wanted to get a jump on May, especially since the postcard sites and postcard magazine, collect data in April, for the national postcard week. But then some people said, lets just do our own thing again, right now. So that's what it is.

This is MSG PCEX II and the mailing date is supposed to be by January 15th. (which I picked out of the air, not looking at a calendar, and it's a Sunday!)

My cousin Guido won't be coming to your door to ask about the postcards you owe, just try to get them out.  ;)

Postal rates go up at the end of the month, so we beat that one?

Hey guys, I was trying to get a good colour last night on my cards but my Xerox printer is CMYK and the purples are just not printing well at all.  I figured I would run some quick photos at Costco today and bloody hell, Windows has crashed on me!!!  My files are on a different drive so it shouln't be lost.  It wasn't flattened though so hopefully I don't have any issues with CS5 which was on that main drive - I spent a lot of time on the phone with Adobe when I bought CS5 to get it to perform properly!  If I had only flattened it and put on a disk last night.

So, apologies for being tardy.  You'll get cards, hopefully I can mail this week.  I am screwed if my desktop is gone for long.  That's what I get for leaving everything to the last minute!!!!

Thanks to you both :), a very happy moment in my life. I was not sure if there were any rules as to what to put on the postcard, but yes I will definitely send you a picture of her, ''freshly out of the box'' :).

Yeah I like the two sided postcard. Maybe they didn't know which side to cancel? Valerie says thanks too. I'm trying not to ruin any surprises for people, but it's always fun to see how many different ideas people come up with! I'm never disappointed!

Congratulations, Morphart!  :D   My baby girl turned 30 on January 17th!

My lot is stamped, addressed, and waiting for me to think of something to write next to address.

2 years of cards scattered over & under furniture when I swung my monitor into postcard display holder,
so hope I'm not leaving any out:
  • racephoto - peaceful Falls, sad legend
  • karimala - atmospheric, contrasty BW
  • reckless - jazzy, 2-sided (barely survived reckless attack by postal machinery)
  • Opla - image + glossy pearl paper made for each other

And you and my older daughter also have something in common for 2012, since she & her husband are expecting a baby (boy) early May. First grandchild on both sides of the family.... a (furless) model who (literally) can't say no!

Hope you'll have a chance to share baby pictures down the road, Morphart.

On my side I have just completed the graphic design for the postcards, and will be sending to a print shop today. My first thought to be quick about it was to go to Wal-Mart and print them there since that's about the only quick solution I have here in my small town, but after doing the card it would be a shame to print this on low quality material.

It might take a week more but I'm having them print at one of my printing provider for my company... will be worth the extra time to wait ;)

On my side I received RacePhoto (Thanks for the Starved Rock photo and history), Opla (wouldn't want my kids going to school next to a 90km zone road ;)), and Reckless (really awesome illustration, very talented!!)

Will keep you posted (haha) when mine are in the mail!

Always worth the wait. I already got two from Opla, talk about over achievers. Took me some time to figure out the joke. Ah, hey, I'm in the US and don't know all the international signs.  :D

Next time I'll be going to VistaPrints reckless card came from there and maybe if people would advise where they had their done? Mine are clearly printed on the back "Walgreens Photo" I was lazy, and they also had offered 25 free prints one day. So I jumped on it.

Also trying to figure out how the card from reckless has no Vistaprint logo and when I went to design one, there's a forced logo in the lower right corner. I need to know for sure if paying more, you get the logo removed, or what I'm missing on this question. I suppose it's not that big of a deal to do the free advertising for them, just wonder.

#80 paper for his looked/felt just fine. Makes me also wonder how much different #120 is. I guess I can order one of my own from Zazzle and see?

I decided to take anything that's refused for Micro and that I think may have some potential and put it up as postcard or greeting card on Zazzle. I've already added and removed things, because I thought that I put up a dupe, when it was the system making two kinds of products from one entry. Will I ever learn?

Vistaprint I think will be good enough. but they have too large a quantity.

We could all order in a print shop together to save on pricing and get a good quality, however we would need to have everything shipped to each of you, or have the one who prints it send the card for everyone, which might not be a good idea either.

Either way, different quality, different pictures, I like the variety and styles we currently get, no use to get too fancy if we lose the Fun along the way :)

Since Vistaprint is coming up again, I'm going to share my referral code which I posted on RacePhoto's National Postcard Month thread:

When people use this "tell a pal" link for 1st order, they get up to 80% off & I get referral credit:

ann's Vistaprint referral: http://vistaprint.tellapal.com/a/clk/3qJdd

I'm puzzled about the forced Vistaprint watermark situation, since none of my Vistaprint postcards have them.
When you go to design the back of your postcard, you should be able to select and delete any Vistaprint info you see, and replace it with your own, or leave the area blank.

Hope that works, helps.

Thank you for your good wishes about impeding new generation to family, Morphart!  :)

Posted mine this morning, Jan 26 Birds Hill Manitoba Canada.

I thought I lost my postcard, when I got my computer back from the shop it was missing some sub folders in my Stock folder.  I was at a loss for what to print up, then I found the psd file in a new folder I had opened for personal projects.  Was a happy find!  Of course I had to fiddle with it some more (even though it was ready to go the morning my computer crashed).  Had to take out a lot of the purple blends for it to print somewhat decent.   I managed to print at home with a LOT of trial and error - of course in the end I chopped off zip codes etc. when trimming, but you should get shortly!

Hehe I realize I referenced Jan 18 on the back of the card but that isn't even accurate - it should have said Jan 25 if anyone is tracking weather conditions....

I'm just going off topic on the off topic. Note my meters. Someone said we could judge a person and their reputation, even anonymous, by their meters. I wanted to be the first with six. Click_Click had four before me, so I'm just an imitator, but, look now, because I'll get bored with being the village idiot of meters by Monday.  ;D Unfortunatly by 7AM this morning I had tired of making them and when I did the final GIF it changed the background colors. I gave up...

Rolex Daytona 24 hour race this weekend. Observers, safety team, crew, drivers, media and friends who aren't going down for the event, will be having a 24 hour watching party starting on Saturday afternoon and ending on Sunday. Just in case you get Speed TV and are looking for something to watch, mostly I'd say Sunday the last few hours when they do the 20 hour recap of the race and you can see what has happened so far to the finish.

The Rolex 24 is pretty much the All Star Game of motor racing. Teams are made, people who never race against each other and are in completely different types of racing, from around the world, all come together in one place. (OK it's not Le Mans, that's the King of them all) But because of the date and type of cars included, it's probably a broader spectrum of assorted drivers and teams? ALMS and LeMans teams, NASCAR, INDYCAR, GT3, and a variety of other kinds of drivers are competing with each other, once a year.

Thanks Reckless!  Not very experienced at that kind of thing so it's fun to finish something. I really enjoyed your musician also!  Mad skills!  Just lovely.

Race, glad your glad I have a twisted sense of humour. Yes!  Show the one you didn't send!

Haha, last year when I started to get cards that had so much thought put into them - I was shamed into writing up a message this year.

Thank you for the kind words but I must admit that I just followed a tutorial using a photo of a former Mrs. Reckless. I wouldn't be able to replicate it without finding the tutorial again. Yours involved much more work. I liked the attention to detail such as the pelican with the money. Too funny.

Ann, I used your previous link to Vistaprint. I hope they credited you with it. I have been so busy I may have looked the site over and returned to it later from my browsing history to order. I hope I ordered the first time to give you a referral.

2 more cards arrived!

So enjoyed Pixart's nefarious dancers AND her full-of-personality message  - and I'm not just saying that because she's a fellow "Nikon Girl":D

Leaf - Wow, were you in a helicopter/plane when you took that?!

---------------------

reckless - When I saw your post, I checked my account, and - so exciting - I have $5 in VistaCash, and it's good until 1/5/2013. Thank you!

It will come in handy, especially since the MSG Postcard Exchange cards I mailed last night were virtually the last I have of that design.

OMG I thought you we're joking until I saw the video. Fabulous! Has kite with camera ever taken a plunge?

aha, well, now that you mention it, yes it has .. once, but only because of 'stupidity'

There wasn't a wind and I really wanted a shot (of horses chasing cows) so I was towing the kite behind the car.  I was by myself so I was driving and holding onto the kite through the window in the drivers seat.. I didn't realize that the kite had taken a swoop towards the ground (I had 2 kites attached to the line which probably caused the problems - also a big mistake).. so it crash landed, dragged my 5D MII with a 16-35 f/2.8 lens down the gravel road a bit and eventually into the ditch.  Everything came out fine though :) .. amazingly enough -   The lens has a very little scratch on the glass but it doesn't show in the images.

Got pixart's (so creative!) and Leaf's today. I would never let a camera like that fly in a kite! :)

And I don't think I'll reach you, Leaf! :D I have been posting much less frequently, since microstock has almost become something of the past...

HAHA (funny to read but must not be funny to experience).... Amazingly creative hehe, you must get pretty nice shots with that, even tho it's a bit risky :)

Oh good, that means I'll be getting a card tomorrow. I saw a nice picture of NY on Valerie's refrigerator when I was visiting. She's running out of magnets. (bought a bag full at an estate sale, problem solved) Also the kite shot was there. Thanks everyone who sent the extra card. Maybe next time I'll do one of hers, or a twofer. Gave her a 590IS for Christmas last year. I loan her my 20D with a 70-200, at the races sometimes, she's my assistant.

I wonder if everyone on the list received my card. Being unfamiliar with addressing conventions of other countries, I worry that I didn't get them all on properly. If anyone didn't get one, let me know and I will send a replacement.

Thanks, kind of funny, because it's taken with film! LOL I had the Mavica by then, but 640x480 was pretty weak.

At least people will know that when I say something about Valerie it's not my "imaginary friend".  ;)

Got Mophart's last week - thanks for sharing those first moments!

I received my postcards and I hope I will have them shipped them on Wednesday. I still have to print the addresses.

Though they have certain things in common, capturing images of newborn is quite the change of pace from news, political photography...

And... I still have not printed the address labels to send my postcards.  :-[

And I'm still happily waiting.  :D

BTW I did do National Postcard Week this year. I got signed up, got on the list, printed 100 card and mailed out 96 of them. That was fun! I received a huge stack, some people send them in envelopes, some sent two cards, some (like myself) think that a postcard isn't supposed to be pristine, it's supposed to be mailed and machine mangled.  ;)

Next May I will remember to print the cards with a return address and email address. DOH!  ???  I did remember to print ___ of 100 on the cards, so people know it's a LE. Also included NPCW 2012 and the date, so they are recorded if someone finds one years from now.

Some people sent real photo, many sent hand drawings, but professionally printed, the variety and creativity is amazing and entertaining. I'll probably scan them all low-res but there are a few sites that list this kind of stuff, so if they do it, I won't duplicate the efforts.

I'm already planning next years card. And just in case anyone wonders, it was pretty much a waterfall that I liked. Not the same as the railroad brodge that I sent for our group. But now that I think about it? Nah, I want a new, taken in 2012 photo for the next year. No old recycled CRAP!  :o

I'll tack on the weekend update. Races, races, more races. Then coming back I had a day off and did scenic overlooks along the way. Boring but fun. I shot giant panoramas, islands and bridges. As usual, the easy part is done, now culling, editing or rendering. Made a time lapse through the windshield (which like all of them, are dismal failures, still working that out) Made an audio recording of a car driving across an iron bridge with open grating. Funny wheel sounds. And discovered that I could buy a 36 foot house boat for $7000 - but I'm not sure why I'd want to do that, unless I have some desire to live on the Mississippi during the Summer? LOL

I just received mine also, but it was a nice surprise. Leaf's never showed up either so I think it was just problems with the mail delivery system. I used to be reckless but lost track of my log-in info so I'm not near so reckless now.

Yes, yours was very nice and yes someone else sent a nice Christmas card, saying they had been busy and never got to the postcards.

I also created a National Postcard week card last May. and for Thanksgiving, just for my own fun, I mailed out 100 cards to the same list, without any reason. I titled it National Un-Postcard Week. If you don't remember Alice in Wonderland, there's the answer.

I've been sticking to the NPCW postcard list because the regulars appear to be under 100 and that's a nice reasonable Vistaprint order. Postage is going up again on Monday in the US. That's first class and postcards and I didn;t check but can assume, everything else. Bottom line, it costs more now to mail 100 cards, that to make them

In the 90s it was cheap to mail and cards (13c I think?) were almost $1 each for professional printing.

So much for the life and history of the "penny postcard"?

Here's one source for NPCW and they list the other lady who makes a mailing list. Just in case someone wants to make postcards. I think you can be selective and do 10-20-or whatever. I just plan on doing the whole list, myself and four friends which closes out the whole 100 LE cards. And I got the 96 back which is amusing to see what people crate. Mostly US if I remember one Canada two overseas.

http://npcw.multiply.com/

Oh by the way, mailing.
2012 NPCW was from "Waldo, WI" (where's waldo?)
2012 N-UPCW was postmarked "Flippin, Arkansas" (just South of Mountain Home)

Looking for more interesting places to send from next year.  ;)
