Title: MSG-PPPE-01 (personal photo postcard exchange) #1
Post by: RacePhoto on December 14, 2010, 14:21
I've been kicking this idea around since Summer and now that it's cold and snowed in and below freezing and... OK that's what it is here, your weather may be much more pleasant. :D

Limited to the first 20 who respond, for the first edition and a test to see if there is interest. So that's really 19 because I'm number 20.

Very basic and easy. You email me (or PM here) your home address and I make a list of the first 20 people. Then I email everyone the list of 20 Snailmail Addresses of all 20 people. If you want to send yourself a test card, that's fine, but it means you will need to mail out 19 postcards.

Things to consider.

1) It's going to be fun to get 19 photo postcards from people!

2) There are costs involved in joining and mailing these cards.
Last time I participated in one of these I bought a Canon Selphi printer which does a nice job on postcard stock. There are printing and mailing costs. If you can't afford to make 20 postcards and mail them, think about that in advance. I think my cost was around 85c a card US, but that was two years ago? (the cancelation machine did a number on the front of the card and left some barcode marks as well. Nothing is perfect)

3) It doesn't have to be fancy, professional, opulent or expensive. It's supposed to be fun. B&W is acceptable, color printer inkjet on cardstock, is fine. Keep saying to yourself, FUN, FUN, Fun.  :)

4) The photo must be an original that you took. Doesn't have to be stock, in fact, many of us are shackled with nice pretty and artistic images that we can't sell anyway. So the whole idea is just pick a picture you want to share and what? Have Fun!

5) Cards should at the least be signed or identified, so we know who they came from. You can add a personal note if you want, camera, date, exposure data, location, comments or just from "name" are all fine.

Did I miss anything? Comments, ideas, anything?

When the list hits 20 people, it's closed, I'll send it out to everyone and we will have a deadline a couple weeks later, to mail out your cards. Remember that postage thing, it costs money to send cards overseas, and we are an international group here. There are expenses to consider, please keep that in mind. That's also why I started with 20, to keep the total costs down for anyone interested.

PM me or email me and I'll post a message here when it reaches 20 people. If there aren't 20 people by December 31st, we'll go with whatever number have joined. That's two weeks.

Thanks!

Now at four. Moving slowly. I can see what some people may not want to spend the money, that's why I tried to make it clear that there's postage and printing. From my side, I'd figure about $20 for the 20 cards, paper, paper, postage, everything. Someone else may be more efficient and do it for less. 4 x 6 is a standard postcard size, so nothing fancy or unusual. A 4x6 photo with a line down the middle of the back, address and stamp on the right. message on the left. Now it's a postcard. ;)

On the other hand, the one I participated in (analog photographers group, had to be a film photo, but they allowed digital prints) I got some really entertaining, off the wall, artistic, and creative shots. I mean a variety of all of those things. :D I put them into a little album so they are together forever.

Then there's the fun and mystery of it all, not knowing what you will be getting. Kind of like 19 surprises, selected by the artist them self. Some people have a really good sense of humor... some, serious artistic talent. I haven't decided yet, but I may go into the analog archives again for something old.

Give it over the weekend and maybe some more people will see the note and decide to join the party.

16 spots open...

Considering this comes from someone with a dumb phone that is basically a phone... what are the z and y buttons, the letters or the axis buttons? Can't afford the service so I have a pay as you go phone. Seems I spent all my money on cameras and lenses? :D

Just ran across the "album" for the one I did with Analog Users Group. I carried it with me for a few weeks and showed it to friends. Hey look at this postcard exchange, I got these from around the world. Good fun.

Now that I pointed out up front the negatives, which is, it's going to cost you 20 prints and postage. I'll mention that it's well worth the effort and it's something that can bring enjoyment for years to come. Being the first one and an experimental project, I supposed the next one (if there is a next one?) would be something like "Isolated on white" (no sliced tomatoes allowed!) or maybe "Any Food Photo" which allows us to send out some fun, maybe even rejections that we love. Oh Wait, there's a good one for the category: "favorite photo that was rejected" :)

@race. When I type on my iPad, a keyboard comes up on the screen so I can type. Just like a computer keyboard. The z and y keys have exchanged places so I'm perpetuallyconfused while typing.

One time deal to see if there's any interest. Everything is option and anyone can join or ignore.

Thanks for the email, you are added! :D

Bringing this around for the new year. About time to wrap it up and get to sending out the list and getting cards. Good thing I put a limit of 20 on this. Whew, the response has been underwhelming. ;) Not really, it's been pretty good and I look forward to seeing what kind of fun stuff people decide to send out.

So lets call this last call and begging for a few more, all at the same time. I'd really like a slightly larger group and then lets close up and do it!

If you are wavering or wondering, please join the fun and make some postcards for the exchange. More than what you send, will be what you receive, because of the diversity and entertainment from getting a card from someone, which is a total mystery, but they picked it! You can guess who's in from the forum, but maybe not... until you get the list you'll never know who PM'ed and joined.

Last Call!  ;D

OK everyone, if you are sitting on the fence, or being a wallflower please come play and join in. Just remember you'll have to figure some way to make 19 4 x 6 prints (oh wow, that's some challenge?) and then address them...  ;D

Any print can be a postcard, with a line down the middle of the back and the address on the right, slap on some postage. Message is optional, but it's minimal to say who it came from for the historical archives of the receiver. I'll probably add some data about the shot, like where it is, maybe IPTC and camera data or if I use a film negative that's scanned, the date and what it was and where.

Does it need to be a postcard print, or just a regular 4x6 print?
Title: Re: MSG-PPPE-01 (personal photo postcard exchange) #1
Post by: Pixart on January 13, 2011, 20:48
You might have to put a sticker on the back of a 4x6 on photo paper so that you can write on it and the address won't smudge off.

You might have to put a sticker on the back of a 4x6 on photo paper so that you can write on it and the address won't smudge off.

Good point.

Actually all someone needs to do is draw a line down the middle, pen and ruler type stuff, of a 4x6 print, write an address on the right, postage and out of good will, description on the left. :D

Nice part is that a 4x6 is within the standard postcard dimensions for mailing. (want me to go into that whole thing?)

4x6 isn't difficult to run through a printer, talking backside now. Test sheets cut from paper are a good idea, expensive/creative photos aren't wasted.

Back to "good point" a sticker is very easy for some people, aka address label. Slap in on the right side, add a stamp, done...

To answer the other question. I have been hoping the project would fill at 20 but I guess it's not as interesting as I thought. Heck, it's not like people here don't have a "good" photo to send out to friends? :D It isn't a competition or something where people will be critiqued, it's just for fun and a bit of friendship. I always find these to be personal choice gifts from someone. Kind of like when a friend gives me a CD mix for the car.

January 15th is the deadline. (I hate deadlines) January 15th will be the close of applications and entry?  ;D

Please, anyone sitting on the fence, 1) consider the financial implications, postage and printing, and 2) the fun factor, you'll get some postcards with pretty pictures. Jump in!

I don't think I can find places to print postcards here, or maybe not at a reasonable price, but if regular prints are ok, count me in, and then I will see if I can get the postcards instead of the prints.

I had actually thought of sending the photo in an envelope, to protect it from handling.

Amazing what a postal machine can do to ruin the face of a postcard. Just wait... It's sad.

madelaide did you get in? I don't think I got a PM from you. Just print a 4x6, write the address on the back, on the right half, and put a stamp in the corner. Now it's a postcard. :D This isn't a contest or competition, no one will judge them for materials used. Just fun!

OK as I am a famous procrastinator, it's that time. I put the list together today. I'll be watch football all day tomorrow. Packers vs Bears is going to be a game almost as attractive for fans, as the Superbowl itself. Hope it's a good one. Then I'll try to figure a way to send it to everyone, because some people replied email and some PM. :D

Here's what I have right now and if you don't see your name or you want in, please PM me... Everyone would be making and sending 12 postcards if this is right. Unless you do like me and send yourself one to see what they look like after the postal service gets done with them.

Is this still happening? Was I supposed to do something?

Yeah, you're supposed to kick me so I wake up and get the list out. ;)

I made the list, I gave notice so people could fix my mistakes and errors. Now I need to distribute it to everyone. Let me put it on a web page and send each person a PM with the link. I really don't want to be publishing peoples home addresses on the forum. Not that they aren't easy enough to find, but might as well keep it as private as possible.

I did it, and now I'll have to get working on my PC. Sending out PMs right now with a link. If you don't get one, or have any problems, please write. Page should print two pages, or you can download and do what you want. It's plain old TXT.

Aside from one "user not found" and this You have exceeded the limit of 10 personal messages per hour. Things are moving right along. :D

edit: I think I have two more to send and everyone should have the list. If not please PM. You should have a message with a link to the txt file, names and addresses. Make that three I spelled blufish wrong. Someone "Bluefish" will be getting a list and wondering WTH I'm writing about?

It's a dead, unlinked page on a tiny private administrative account on the old Prodigy. In other words, no links to it, no links from it. I'm pretty sure the spiders won't find it, but now problem. As soon as everyone has the lust with Karimala's address, and she has it. I can remove the list. If anyone needs it after that, I can email it.

Lets say, Friday and then I 86 it?

(needed a new term that's more obscure than procrastinate, there you go)  ;D

If anyone needs a definition and origin, I'd be happy to explain "86"

Ok, we copied our list :)

I had the postcard down to one of 14 pictures, then I found a whole block of images I'd forgotten we had...  And Robert saw some that HE thought we should send...

We'll figure it out in the next few days, I promise!! :D

((we are NOT procrastinators, we are just undecided! LOL))

Got the new list too and ordered the postcards.
Geez, the european zazzle asks 1€/card, the american zazzle less than $0,83 + i googled a discount coupon which also only works on the american site so in the end the price in dollars was less than half compared to the euros for the exact same product. :o

Got the new file list.

Yeah, zazzle brazil comes down to about $1,28/card :(
Why not order from the U.S zazzle either? you can google a 30% off on cards coupon right now (and use your zazzle earnings to pay if you want to)

I used zazzle, it came to about $1 a card. Wish I would have known about the 30% off. <sigh> oh well, I got extras so I can use them for family, too.

I'm at least two years late on that idea. I bought a Canon Selphi and I print my own. Yours will probably be more durable and consistent. Hmm, there's still time. I ended up in the same situation, what to send, I have it narrowed down to under 1000.

Yes, sorry for the typo, it was funny!  ;D

Snow day tomorrow in Wisconsin. I'll remove the list and everyone who wants it after that will get a personally sent copy via email. I didn't see a way to attach a file to the PM here or I would have gone that route. Some people don't have email linked or public, some do, so it's a mixed bag.

Received my first card today! I think it comes from Opla, dankjewel jongeman :D I could read it without magnifying glass (barely ;)). Cool to have the story behind the pic!
It got a bit scratched in the mail, but that makes actually a cool effect! There's glowing ufo's in the card now too where the emulsion got scratched!

Mine still havent been sent, zazzle told me they were shipped so shouldnt take too long.

UFO's, great! And congrats on the reading :)

Right now I'm happy to be plowed out after four days kind of snowed in. The Super Bowl is Sunday, and then back to abnormal.

OK I dug out the mailbox, they plowed it in again, I dug it out. the driveway guy piled snow in front of it again... I dug it out for now. Went to the doctor, I have a follow-up with another specialist tomorrow, but I promise to get off my lazy butt and start printing tomorrow. I wrote myself a note. That way when I wake up I won't say "wasn't there something I was going to do today?"

OMG, I can't believe I got cards out today before I received any.  This is so unlike me.  No guilt eating away at me for once.  ;D

I would love to know how messed up they are when they arrive, and if the ink has rubbed off.  Printed on glossy card stock on Xerox Phaser 7760.  The stock seemed a little thin so I stuck a big label on the back before I trimmed which seemed to stop it from curling.  The local post office didn't have any fun stamps today  :(

I don't know why I picked that silly composite.   I guess because it wasn't a stock photo?

Whoa, and mine went out this morning. I wonder if they are like the US, and there will be a stack of cards in the dead letter office, or if someone will be kid enough to fix and forward them all.

Keep track and see if you get them, if not I'll consider sending a replacement.

I also had no return address and since it's coming from the USA it would be pretty funny to send it and in a month get it back. Like, the around the world postcard and home again?  ;D

Yay, 2 postcards have arrived! Won't mention specifics yet about the very cool photos, in case you haven't received yours.

Opla's arrived first, and I think I've made out the words "Hi fellow MSG-ers... Canon... The camera is... Anyway... all the best and looking forward to your postcards." Next arrived Christy and Charles'.

It was harder than I expected to choose a photo. Anyway, this is so exciting - thanks Racephoto for making this all happen - and that's a great snow photo you've posted above!

(Oh, I placed each of mine in a plastic/paper sleeve that's meant to unfold a bit, and then serve as basic frame for any 4x6, but when the postal worker saw it, she said the new machines would rip open the flap, so I had to add bits of tape along the bottom. Sigh.)

I mailed my postcards this afternoon, but I didn't think to check this thread first, and it looks like there was at least one address that should have been modified.
If any postcarders don't receive theirs in reasonable time, please PM me with address, and I be happy to send you another postcard.

Gosh, very impressed that Opla's card arrived from the Netherlands to Central Canada already - I thought it might take 3 weeks.  Interesting shot (good timing!) and I could even read that tiny text!  Feels like quite an acheivment with the trouble I've been having with my eyes lately :)  It arrived in perfect shape, not even a bent corner.

You guys aren't going to make me feel horrible I didn't write a note are you?  Mine never would have gone into the mail....

Leaf, did you like the quality of their postcards?

the print was a little dark, but that could be my fault.  it is frustrating not being able to tweak the image after it's printed and print again (which was perhaps one of the reasons I just had it printed by them.. I can spend hours printing and tweaking :) )  The paper quality and texture is fine though.
I was also disappointed by the big zazzle logo on the back though.  If I pay for an post card to be printed I don't expect it to contain a big branding logo (ok, not that big, but plenty big).  If I was ever going to use post-cards as some promotional item or christmas letter thing for a business i wouldn't get them printed at zazzle for that reason alone.  I went through the check-out fairly quickly so maybe there was a notice about the logo on the back of the card, if there was I didn't see it.  If I had seen it I would have printed the cards myself.

so overall, reasonably satisfied but disappointed about the branding.

Great pic of a small waterfall.

In case no one noticed, Opla sent out a 4x6 photo, with a descriptive line down the middle to break the card up, which is fine with postal regulations as a postcard. Yes, the machines mangle everything on an equal basis. His photo may have made it through better than my dye-sub Selphy prints on "postcard" paper. I'll find out today, since I mailed myself one for tracking.

Just something to keep in mind if you are ever on the road and want to send someone a quick photo postcard. Take the shot. Go have it printed 4x6 at some corner store, draw a line down the middle, text on the left, postage and address on the right. There you are! Under 20c probably. The postage is more than the card!  :)

Yes, my error thinking that everyone would read the forum and see that the list had been updated, and it was still at the same link/location as before. They might not have their PM from MSG saved.

If anyone wants the additional address and the postal code change and you don't have the link that was sent to everyone, please ask...

Hey, they cost me 32 euro cents a piece! And the line in the middle was accidental. I had 15 glossy and 15 matte printed, just to see what would work better. The glossy's had the text printed down the middle of the long sides, the matte ones had it printed perpendicular to it. I sent the glossy's to all of you, and a matte to one. Anyway, hope they all arrive!

Worked out perfect. I wish I knew a way to have the text printed down the middle like you did. Instant postcard! Good choice, the glossy with the subject works out just right.

By the way, the post office here put a big white smudge on my postcard. I got mine from myself today. The two that I got so far that are photos, have minimal destruction. Something I need to consider for the future. Photos work better and cost less!  ;D

The price comment is based on just shooting them out to Walgreen's and the standard 4x6 prices. They also have a buy 25 prints get 25 free offer that runs about once a month, but what do I want with 25 prints of anything? Same Fuji Frontier commercial machines that most places have.

I don't even print my photos anymore, just digital and save digital, upload digital and sell digital. Pretty odd when I think about it. I do print 8x10s sometimes for a small collection album I sometimes show to people. Now and then I remove a shot and replace it with something else, but there's a limit and that keeps it from becoming a big overwhelming selection. The old prints go into a file that I expect no one will ever see again.

It's a subject I visit every year for Thanksgiving. Hoping to go again next year and add in the ghost town of Rush, Arkansas also. As it was, we spent almost all the free time for two days, scouting and visiting resale shops.  ;D lots of sleeping late since it was Thanksgiving vacation.

I finally go mine out on Saturday.

re: zazzle logo
Ok, you are probably right that it can be removed.  I thought I had seen that before on business cards if you want to pay a little extra, but didn't see it for these postcards.  I was probably clicking too quick.

I hope Karimala and madelaide are feeling much better.

I'm glad K mentioned RacePhoto's vintage stamps, since they were hiding in plain sight for me until then. Crop from 74 images - boy, would I like to see that!

Olpa's must have all arrived now...  It landed here with the tiniest white dink in surface, but perfectly placed where "X" marked the spot, so it was a fun mystery deciding whether it was another aircraft. (Lack of exhaust trail finally decided it.)

Hugo's wonderfully varied selection brings back very fond memories of trip throughout Holland a few years ago, (alas, I just had P&S back then).

When Pixart's arrived, at first I thought it was from a friend who shoots lovely photos of ice skating events for magazines..., and was amazed how she was now producing images with such radically different look - quite eerie, since friend's 1st name could be a shortened version of Pixart's 1st name. Gorgeous postcard.

That surprise is out, but maybe some people missed it? Yes, I used vintage stamps. Had to add one cent extra to the card going to Canada because I had the right postage in new stamps.

So far the Opla card has a tiny black spot where it shouldn't be. My card has a big white spot under the bridge. Pixarts got a couple of machine whacks. (nice heavy card stock, wonder how it was printed?) Zazzle (Cclapper) and Elvinstar came through untouched. Hugo's - solved the indecision problem?  :)

I can say with six cards so far, no two are alike in size or how they were created. The subjects are varied and great fun, which is just what I had hoped for.

6 of 15 received - I counted my own since I sent myself one.

Wow, four in the mail today!
Mellimage's, great pic, no marks at all.
Leaf's, just markings form the stamping machine - were you in a wetsuit taking this pic?
Cclapper's, some small marks, love the mood.
Racephoto's has a big white mark under the bridge and some on the top, nice!

I've received 2, Corepics yesterday - what a nice collection of shots!  I have to say I was very disappointed when I ran to the mailbox today and nothing!

Pixarts got a couple of machine whacks. (nice heavy card stock, wonder how it was printed?)
I have a Xerox 7760 phaser in my home office and printed on glossy cover stock.  It didn't seem thick enough actually so I slapped a big sheet of label on the back before trimming.  Made it easier to write too as both sides were glossy.

I'm totally diggin this.  We'll have to soon make plans to do again.  Perhaps with our summer vacation photos?

Sorry for the late reply - been a bit busy.

I've received a lot of postcards too In random order:
Ann's card - cool processing, and I admire the touch of the protective sleeve and your handiwork!
Race - Vintage stamps still still unstamped, great touch, very cool idea; would love to see the whole pano.
Leaf - the correct postal code, indeed ;) Low POV makes it a very strong image!
Opla - The one with the wrong postal code did arrive, so it makes a great comparison between the glossy and the matte version, thanks! (Not sure which I like best; considering the fine print (choice of lens), I'd go for the matte version)
cclapper: happy accident shots are usually the finest; lovely mood!
Mellimage: definitely a good choice; I dig the drop on the petals.
Elvinstar: Shaken, not stirred, I Presume?

Thanks, I really enjoy digging out those gems from between the invoices and junkmail in our mailbox, these days!

so my slip-up with the postal code wasn't that serious after all:

Whee! 6 cards in the post today! I suspect it's the Belgian post that's a bit rough, they all are a bit scratched (even the plastic on Ann's, Pete's survived best) but i notice a pattern... for every card it happened on the same line; must be the sorting machine or something. It's not too bad though and adds to the postcard charm :)
The cards were from Leaf, cclapper, mellimage, racephoto, ann and elvinstar. Great pictures guys and gals, a blast receiving the cards!
Mine were supposed to go out today, they're written but i didnt get to the postoffice... tomorrow :)
(i'm a lefty so sorry for the messy wiped out inkstains...it really became a bit of a smudge :/)

I find it just so bizarre that it takes longer for American post cards to get to Canada than they take to get to Belgium or The Netherlands!!!

Just rec'd Race's today.  Thanks for the story!  And here I was expecting a race car from you for some reason.  Now I'll have to look up Margaret Chase Smith, from the stamp.

That makes 3 total here - 2 from across the pond, one from my own continent.  I guess the off-continent addresses went straight on a plane, and the rest were put on the back of a truck.

If you want a car picture I have thousands, maybe tens of thousands. I would have found that boring. ;) So I didn't send off boring. And with all the indecision I just figured, I like this, that's what it's going to be. Plain and simple, pretty picture, nothing important. But when I'm not shooting cars or working at the races, or napping for the Winter... I like hiking, climbing, searching the back roads and finding the old and unusual. Mostly I'm happy with old.

Stamps are from a collection that as far as I'm concerned I'd rather use for mail. The Famous American series (the square ones) are from 1940. I have all of them canceled and mint. Seems the mint stamps are of no use for photography or micro because the agencies don't understand the copyright laws and they are PD tostart with. Also they have been refused for images of famous dead people "estate may have rights". So now you all can have them! :D

Want a car picture?

Simona de Silvestro at the Autobahn Grand Prix 2009 - formula Atlantic before she moved to the IRL in 2010 (picture is a fail, but I like the subject and composition.) Sky is real, photo is as is, except for bringing up shadow areas and sharpening around the numbers. That's why it looks so contrasty and over saturated. Too bad.

Mark Donohue, Jr. race cars gathering, only time most of these have been in the same place at the same time, and it probably won't happen again. (Sunset was the only time we could get them together on the race track) Next requested tool from Photoshop would be the "green room" remover!

Most famous of them all, Marge the 1991 Honda Wagon, at corner three Road America 2008. :) (Marge has 230,000 miles and is still running strong.) Marge is included in many of my personal photos since she comes along on all the trips, wherever I go.

I confess that I shoot more for fun than for money.

Tyler's came today. (For split-second, when I saw it on hall table I thought it was giant cow rising from far edge of lake.) Greedily wish it had arrived as XXXL "postcard" - exquisite.

Glad the plastic-paper-frame mailers worked out. I got a bundle from photojojo a year ago, and RacePhoto's most excellent postcard project gave this batch of 14 a chance to see the world.

Artemis' winter forest kissed by golden edge of day arrived - gorgeous. A's and Leaf's images go spectacularly well together!

So wish I had addressed message to each by name, as most of you have done. Have to remember that for next time.

Cclapper's arrived thoughtfully folded by post office so it stands up on its own. Can't even imagine what it must be like to have horse part of life. Shot's called a happy accident - but, of course, Cc had to be there with camera + vision to see and capture the magic.

I wasn't going to say anything, but Pixarts card, I found in the snow as it was melting. Might have fallen out the same day or the day before. I sandwiched it between a paper towel on the writing side and some plastic on the shiny side (or what was left of it).

Amazing, the card survived quite well with some wrinkles, but looks good and I can read all the writing.

Ten cards including the one I sent myself. This is enjoyable and I don't mind waiting for the entertaining variety or shots and ideas. Always worth it!

I suspect I'll get another card, maybe two, tomorrow.

Because of RacePhoto's "racer-waving" avatar, I'd like to ask off-topic Q:

Could anyone post a safe link to a clear tutorial on how to create an avatar with motion?

(I googled it, and each answer was different, with different links, software, which I'm concerned about DL'ing at random. Besides RP's I've greatly enjoy the Dancing Cat avatar another MSG'er has.)

I'd like to create a stable avatar, ideally just using CS5, but could be flexible about software someone here highly recs.  Thanks - Ann

No, I just barely knew it involved gif files, and was googling "avatars with motion"  :-[
Thanks so much, Opla!

But we are in Off Topic, so I suppose that makes the answer, On Topic? :D

I used Irfanview and JASC animation shop 3 for that one. Just the easiest that I know, I'm sure others will know better. The one you see, started as four or five images, 0-1-2-3-4-5 then (4-3-2-1) copied and numbered 6-7-8-9, the 0 is the same, so it doesn't need to repeat, same for the middle image. Hey I was bored one afternoon, and wanted to see if it would work.  ::) I only did the hand. It was a 100 x100 file, so a little tiny for working on the eyes and mouth.

There's also a Free Microsoft gif animation maker, that I've never used, because the one I have works.

http://download.cnet.com/Microsoft-GIF-Animator/3000-18512_4-12053.html?tag=mncol;4 (http://download.cnet.com/Microsoft-GIF-Animator/3000-18512_4-12053.html?tag=mncol;4)

Microsoft GIF Animator lets you easily create and customize animated GIF files for your Web site.GIF animations are based on the GIF89a file format, which stores timing information to create the illusion of animation like a cartoon "flipbook". With GIF Animator you can make your animations loop, spin, fade in and out; set the size and transparency of your images; and control a wide range of other options. GIF Animator also features automatic or custom palette creation.

Here's another one that works and I have it on my second system. Photolapse. (FREE) makes a batch of JPGs into an AVI. You can use an AVI for your avatar just as easily, all you do is link to it on ImageShack or anyplace that you can host images. Works for making real animations from time sequence shows with the digital camera as well. Nice! I think the igloo time lapse was done with this.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Other-VIDEO-Tools/PhotoLapse.shtml (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Other-VIDEO-Tools/PhotoLapse.shtml)

The PhotoLapse application was designed to be a free jpg to avi convertor. It will convert a jpg sequence into a, by codec compressed, movie. I created it for making timelapse movies of large sequences of jpg stills and couldn't find any freeware programs to do the trick the way i wanted it. PhotoLapse needs no installing nor does it modify your registry, just one executable.

Got madelaide"s today! Very nice photo!

Me too, (postmarked Feb 26th) and still the fun of no two alike, subject or concepts. Many have different production or printing. Is this the first all analog photo? Hugo did have an old B&W included in the collage.

We'll have to do this again at the end of the year.  :D I like the Zazzle cards and looked up the prices. They are more durable and cost less than printing cards myself. Pretty soon all I'll own are monochrome laser printers and faxes. The last inkjet plugged again, I may re-cycle it.

madelaide's beautiful postcard arrived yesterday - saturation and contrast really help convey essence of ravishing Rio

Lovely idea to send it of first RM image! "My First" is such a great theme.
Have fond memories of my 1st direct-client RM (a very honest animal shelter that contacted me after seeing it online) and macro RM (store window - Alamy).

Hugo's mis-addressed postcard just returned today, but I sent out correct one a couple of days after it, so all should be good.

now I know a bit more Dutch, thanks to explanation on card
post Herstel/Retour: Onvolledig/foutief adres/postcode - Incorrect address

Hmmm. Opla has a very valid point. I'm afraid my postal code is incorrect. it should be 2281GK (And not 2032KA). Don't know what got into me when I passed Race that info, nor why I didnt' notice that earlier...

I'm very sorry about that. Hope I'm still on time.

My Correct postal code is 2281GK

Cheers,

Hugo

I use Camtasia Studio, a software program for screen recording... so I just talk into a mic while I do stuff on the screen and clip and edit it afterwards.

Yes, maybe they thought there was some coded message in the pedals of the flower? :D Nope I didn't get it.

However if it's in a bag on a boat, or lost in equipment, maybe some day it will magically appear.

Great that you came back and confirmed that they were sent.
