Hi, just something (hopefully) useful for anyone else who suffers from physical issues due to overzealous mousing or digital pen-ing.  I've been working with a really excellent book on acupressure (I'll post the title/author if you want it, and if I'm allowed to), and have come to realise that all the points concerned with my own issues are places where I would normally put my hand naturally due to aches or stiffness.  However... because I get so engrossed in what I'm doing, I've broken the natural and automatic tendency to do that.  I find it really fascinating to see that this is stuff that we instinctively 'know', and this book has really put me back in touch with my body in that respect.  It's quite amazing to feel all that tension melt away under your fingers, once you know exactly what to do.

Let me know if you're interested in more info.  :)

I have no connection with this book in any way except that I've found it incredibly helpful and if it helps anyone else, so much the better.

I would love to know what that book is! I am starting to notice the odd pain in the wrist and forearm when I use the mouse, and it's worrying.

OK Clivia - I hope Leaf doesn't mind my putting this here.  I was going to put the Amazon.com link in, but the co.uk site has some other people's reviews, which may help you decide whether to get it or not.  There is a small chapter specific to wrist or carpal tunnel problems - but I haven't tried that (my problems concern trapezius muscles and neck mainly - and it's been brilliant for those).  You can see from the reviews that it covers a multitude of different issues:

I've dealt with this for years and years - ongoing. One of the best books I've read is called "It's Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome," which works with the fact that once carpal tunnel is out of the diagnosis, medical care is out of ideas, BUT there are many other RSI injuries that relate to hands/shoulders/neck, etc that still hurt. The book works on how to deal with that. And I have something called an ErgoRest (more than one, actually).

Thanks for that ppdd.  I'll check that out as well. What a great book title  :D

ETA:  That's funny - I'm just reading the reviews and one reviewer mentions (favourably)
"The Trigger Point Workbook", and another the Dr. John Sarno books - both of which I
also have and have read.  Like you, I've been with these issues a long time... so the old
bookcases are bulging.  So far the acupressure one I mentioned has been the best, and
gives immediate relief and a sense that these issues are finally shifting, in my own case.

Thanks, I put in an order for the book.  I had spinal surgery a couple of years ago.  I'm no longer in a wheelchair, but now and then my back cramps up which brings me to my knees (one of which I had replaced a year ago).  So getting the muscles to relax would be a great benefit.  Thanks!

Wow Penywise... well done for getting out of that wheelchair.   Those cramps sound terrible.  I hope the book helps you as much as it's helped me.  The other thing that might help is magnesium supplements.  Some people have found them so effective that they've been able to stop taking painkillers.  There's an article here if it's of interest:

Good luck!  I wish you so well.
