Title: Need your help-what text on my business card
Post by: rene on January 18, 2010, 09:56
I'm preparing my "stock" business card in different languages. I have some trouble to write English version - my English is very poor. The main purpose is to tempt models and restaurant chefs to work with me. I was thinking about something like this:
Do you need nice photos? Do you want  to immortalize your creation, a special event? Are you interested in modeling for stock  photography?   If your project interested me and we work  together you'll receive images from the photo session for your personal use for free
I'm worried about errors. I'd be very grateful if someone can give me any advice.
Thank you in advance.

If it’s for a business card keep it simple and well designed. I’d just use a few bullet points listing the service you provide rather than a sentence.

you could also go with a nice design that says "photographer" without saying it in words ... name .. contact info .. that's it. Without words you're saying .. yeah I'm that good that I don't need to try to talk you into it. Save the verbal pitch for your direct contact when handing them the card. It's says you're more professional and allows for direct human contact, which make far more of an impression than text on a piece of paper.

you know how the great artists (musicians, painter, photographers) always say, "let my work speak for me" ?

you should do the same. my business card is a little bigger than the typical business card.  the dudes in the office look at it like "duh, so big?" , but my clients, bankers,etc... use it for both contact reference and display on their desk.

you sell photographs, you make images that speak for your clients,etc..
as my best friend (she's in real estate) keeps reminding me, "let your work speak for you".  iow, if you're a writer, worry about verbal presentation, if you're in imaging, find the one image that will speak for you.

be aware of composition, colours (certain colours attract attention, others turn people off, yet others get ppl to look at it then forget it), ...
pick one image that stands out for that little size of the business card.
many images that look incredible at 4MP look weak business card size.

what i do is i print my selections, throw them all on the carpet,
and leave them there. the one that my eyes keep looking at, that one i print as my next business card.

hope it helps.

as for text, nothing much is needed,  name, business name, phone, email...
sometimes, esp when i travel, i don't even bother with address or phone, as they change. if you have a mobile , sure... as long as you know it's not going to change.
email. yes... most ppl communicate with you via email nowadays.
phone numbers are not even that important anymore, as most of my clients contact me first via email.

but you know the rest.

Maybe you can create your design on the face of the card with all contact information, then offer your services on the rear of the card. That way you have an example of your work and contact information and your offerings all on one card.

change 'interested'  to 'interests'  :)
I wonder if the OP is Filipino. I often get PM's that people are "interesting" instead of "interested" (in a model shoot) in the Phils.  :P
