I recently started using Picasa and was wondering what other folks thought of it.
I seem to be getting a lot of rejections from the sites due to noise and was thinking that maybe when I straighten or do other stuff in Picasa, that the program may be messing with the image and adding noise....any thoughts?
Thanks.
Also, does any one know any good programs  for storing and organizing images, similar to Picasa or iPhoto?

The main storing and organising programs are Apetrure (apple only) and adobe lightroom (beta only which means onces they finalise it you will probably have to pay $200ish).

I dont use picasa for editing though I haven't heard of issues re introducing noise.  I only use Picassa for uploading to Google albums.  Photoshop elements or CS2 are the main programs people use for editing.

Are you working on a JPG file and then saving it again as a JPG file?

If so, that will degrade the image each time you save it.

JPG is a 'lossy' compression format so, each time you save an image as a JPG file you lose a bit of information, no matter what program you use. It's a bit like photocopying a photocopy of a photocopy. Each time the image will get worse.

Best to work on images as RAW or TIF files and only save them as JPG as the very final step. And, if you need to make any further changes, go back to the original TIF file again.

IMatch and IDImager are two pretty well known DAM (Digital Asset Management) programs.
